Dr.Paul never trusted CPI

One thing if I heard correctly, is that Jim said that Dr.Paul's definition of inflation is CPI. But it's not true, Dr. Paul never trusted CPI.

Thefreeman

I think Ron asked that

I think Ron asked that baldheaded idiot bernanke that question and bernanke answered the CPI..

Said a Little Differently

This was good. when Jim speaks in the interview it is different than his writings and I picked up a different perspective and emphasis from Jim in listening to this interview.

The above interview is worth listening to even if you read the site http://jsmineset.com/ regularly.

Good nugget BK....

Sinclair always makes sense.

Harry S. Dent (deflationist)

FSN has an interview with a "deflationist" this week. He makes the best case that I've heard.

Questionable

This Harry Dent guy sounds highly questionable to me. He makes a few excellent points, but overall his whole demographic theory sounds a bit screwy.

Rather I'd put my trust in inflationists like Peter Schiff and Marc Faber.

The only counter arguement that is left ....

Will the FED decide to inflate M1 and M2 to amounts that exceed peak M3 levels?

Like Dent said ... we are dealing with a drug addict.

Will the choice eventually be to go into detox or will they choose death?

We are already seeing the floating of ideas like a world currency, which, if that happens, the dollar will be allowed to collapse over the period of about a decade.

We just don't know yet what is going to happen.

I am beginning to think that this will be the key decision.

And I think the Keyneseans will fight for inflation at all costs and against all tides.

Will they succeed?

Only time will tell.

WAHOR!!

inflate or die.. that is the

inflate or die.. that is the governments choice.. by inflating , it just gives them a little more time before they die.. the question is what are you doing to prepare your self and your family to ride through it?

To my inexperienced ear, he made it sound

as if demographics were the prime cause of boom/bust cycles, rather than central bank monetary policy. Or maybe he meant the spring/summer/etc. cylces are basic trends that the Fed simply worsens?

Yes, he's all about

Yes, he's all about demographics. He made his name (as far as I know), in the early 90's during that recession, with a book called, "The Great Boom Ahead."

The thesis of that book is that people experience their peak spending years in their mid - late 40's. That's when they've "made it" and they're spending on houses, nice cars, vacation homes, college for their kids, etc. Based on his demographic info, he predicted that baby boomers were entering that phase en masse and would drive a huge bubble. It was a risky thing to say in 1992, when things looked really bad.

It turned out that we did have that great boom. I'm not sure that demographics explains it all, but it does sound plausible.

Any good scientist knows, however, that correlation does not equal causation.

In the book, he did mention - to his credit - one line that said something like, "after the boom is complete, we'll experience the worst depression since the great depression."

Seriously - it was like one line in his book, and he didn't elaborate at all. So, his new book is the elaboration.

This guy sounds pretty good

This guy sounds pretty good also ..However, I would back the train up to his assumption that baby boomers hit a peek in 2008 ..No ! Boomers were duped into a FALSE boom for many years ..Because of gov't policies & progams that were used to create a FALSE boom WE, all, now find ourselves, first & foremost, playing catchup to the False economy of Derivitive life style ..Some of this correction was taken from our 401K in 1999 & now in 2008-09...Now that all this FALSE lifestyle has caught up to a REAL economy, we are left facing no job, to enable retirement catch up..The profiteers have essentialy robbed our private funds to further exploit their FALSE boom madness & they are still not satisfied they want it ALL..
Good people do Good deeds

Its time for Jim to retire

Although Jim admitted both the money supply and credit must expand to create inflation, he completely dismisses the fact hat we are and have been experiencing deflation with little to no credit expansion. A perfect example bad_karma was your post on housing priced in gold. One of your better posts actually. Your post only proved that we are in a deflationary period.
Jim needs to retire.

once again you show grasp

onmce again you show grasp of inflation or deflation.. you are the dolt who needs to retire.. again when a guy can't even call the direction interest rates are going.. that says a lot.. dude waste your time somewhere else.. this stuff is way over your head.. you didn't even listen to the interview.. oh by the way.. remember your last post that gold was going to fall?? what did it do? only went up 75.00 an ounce.. now having said that, yes it may come down but not for the prechterit reasoning you seem to cherish.. by the way.. if we are in a deflationary period.. why is the dollar moving down? why is oil and the metals moving up?,, its time for you to retire...

Jim's take on the real estate market I think was spot on.

Very impressive.

How did I miss this guy? His understanding of the game seems to be pretty detailed. Eric did a good job interviewing him too. Thanks for sharing this interview.

He's the first I've heard to say it

I've suspected it for quite some time... since 92 actually, but I feel he's confirmed it. Thank you for the link bad_karma and the confirmation from Mr Gold... because if he thinks that... RP must too, eh?
