A cop said "Nice Ron Paul sticker" today!
It was the End the Fed / No more Bailouts - Ron Paul for Sec. of Treasury bumber sticker.
Some jerk called the cops on my wife and 5 year old son today in our small town of about 2600. They had gone to town to get a battery for my sons remote control truck. They parked in the shade (was in the mid to upper 70's) and left our 6 month old choco lab pup in the car w/ a bone and all the windows cracked. They walked in the hobby shop (never busy there) found the battery, paid and 6 minutes later walked out to find a county sheriff waiting for them. Some @$$ had called 911 and said (LIED) that the dog had been left in the car for an hour or more! (I was home when they left and they came back in 15 minutes!) The sheriff asked how long the dog had been left in the vehicle. My wife answered about 5 or 6 minutes. He asked if it have a bowl of water. She said no, it would have spilled it in the first minute or two, but she did have a bowl and water in a container to give it if need be. The dog was on the seat chewing away on her bone when the officer looked in, she was wagging her tail and had not barked, whined or anything when my wife and son were in the store. He told her what the caller had said and then said "Nice Ron Paul Sticker... Have a nice day."

I was stopped by the police
6 months ago, all our cars have RP stickers on them, when I stopped the policeman just wanted to tell me my headlights were not on, my RP stickers are on my rear window. I know he saw them, he smiled and said turn on your headlights and please be careful . This weekend our (sherrif) supposedly killed hisself ,we dont know all the details yet but this worries me very much. local artical > http://www.panolian.com/content.aspx?IsHome=1&MemberID=1180&...
Don't paint with too broad of a brush....Please.
Here's a thought. None of us like to be pre-judged because of some group to which we belong. The police are no different. I have been a police officer for nearly 16 years and have been an avid Ron Paul supporter since I first learned of him early in his campaign. You may be surprised to learn that there are a considerable amount of freedom loving, Constitution-protecting police officers out there. I personally know quite a few. I also know the officers most of you are referring to and I understand your distaste for their brand of policing, but please consider that many of us believe in protecting civil liberties and upholding the Constitution.
Thank you.
Trajan265 - Thank You!
Part of the reason I posted this story was to show a good experience with an officer (and one who seemed to like Ron Paul!). In my experience (even since high school) I have mostly had good experiences with the 'law' - and I have had many a run-in's. I know there are good cops, I know there are great cops. Sounds like you are one of those and to that I say THANK YOU! Are you part of the oath keepers btw?
So what is wrong with some of these "bad" police? Are they brainwashed? Are they 'just doing thier job'? - Following orders to keep an income for their families? Are they confused? Angry? Are they stuck in a herd mentality? Are they hired thugs?
Thanks again!

I understand
I have a very good friend who is an ex cop in NY, not the city. He is appalled at the current policing state. He says in his time they were problem solvers.......find a solution to each incident without making more trouble. Peace keeping. Now it is all about arrests and cash. It's a product of the new training and the ex-military now becoming officers.
He's a great guy.........I wish I knew just one officer locally who thought like him.

Labs are so well behaved
Some dogs at that age would tear up the seats if they didn't get to go with them.
I wish labs came in a smaller size. They are absolutely the personality I want in a dog.
Defend Liberty!
...off topic....dogs
If you want a cool small dog, definitely get a Papillon. They are highly intellegent, not yappy at all, and extremely well mannered. I've had 2 chihuahuas, and now have a 2 yr old Pap....we'll stick with them now!

Clackamas county in Oregon is without a coordinator. Be the liason between the Sheriff and his constituents to support the Constitution and defend the individual's rights against foreign and domestic threats, such as forced vaccination.
Douglas county Sheriff has already agreed and is forming a Sheriff's posse, starting with concealed handgun license (CHL) holders, to stand against the Feds or foreign troops if they step outside their lawful limits in their county.
This is the next step with Sheriff Mack at the helm. See http://www.usa1911.com
thanks terryhamel!
I will check this out...looks interesting!

Imagine the day when all -- even most --
cops respond so warmly and politely. That's how it should be.
Never talk to the police!
Another thread addressed this with a good video of a law professor saying the same. Here is the video:

You don't have to tell the cop how long you were in the store. You don't have to tell the cop anything, and, in fact, you shouldn't.
A nice cop?
Well Halloween is sorta around the corner. Now if only they'd act like that all year.
just curious.
what city and state did this occur in?
Oregon State
it was a Clackamas County Sheriff in the City of Estacada.
btw - just curious - what's that do for you?

"Nice Ron Paul Sticker... Have a nice day."
Success!
Now that's action
In 6 minutes a citizen was able to call 911, relay all the specifics, the 911 person was able to then call the dispatcher and relay the information, who was then able to contact the sheriff and again relay the information. The sheriff was then able to drive to the crime scene...
If you take into consideration the time it took to walk into and out of the store, the car was out of your families sight for less than 6 minutes. You've got some real fast talkers there. I doubt if there was a 911 complaint..

When I was petitioning for Nader's ballot access
I was a volunteer.. 2004, the professional petitioning companies that had commissioned to do Nader's ballot access, dropped Nader because the petitioners were being arrested at a rate the companies could not back.
As a volunteer, I experienced these "dirty tricks".
I always sought permission to petition before asking one person if they thought an independent had the right to be on the ballot. It was always a short matter of time when the manager or the security guard would come up to me and apologise, saying, I have complaints.
Don't get me wrong. I went to an A.N.S.W.E.R. anti-war demonstration and was advised I wasn't pushing to get signatures hard enough, not that they liked Nader, but they didn't like my method.. standing there with a Nader bumper sticker and the petition, waiting for people to walk up to me. Worked for me though.
During the process of about 6 weeks, I heard stories of false arrests, harrassment, stalking, and I myself was accused of attacking someone... got a phone call from a dectective 250 miles away following up on the complaint. Twice, I was informed by nicely dressed women that I should be "shot in the head".
I witnessed a few protests during Clinton's reign of terror and he was BRUTAL to protestors.. Bush was awesome to protest under.. few cops wore guns and most were enjoying the day.
Ron Paul is absolutley hated by some folks on the left who see him as a threat. They believe they believe it is their duty to report racist RP Republicans and their homophobic religious wackos that CNN constantly show as child molesting rabid rapists hypcritical liars who their their greed and self righteousness are destroying the nation with their capitalism. There are some folks on the right who HATE Ron Paul because he is BS gold bug gadfly thats attracts the losers and genetically flawed of the population.
Unfortunately, some wear a uniform. Fortunatley this was not the case this time.

That is what I thought
Cop just wanted to hastle a little. She didn't stay gone long enough for him to hastle more. Dog didn't misbehave enough to support him. His
'compliment' indicates what he had on his mind. Not sure I would trust that particular compliment.
I am not lying trapfive
if that is what you are getting at. And yes it was a fast response by the officer. It is a really small town and on the weekends especially they are always around in town (this was right next to city hall where they pretty much hang out at all the time). I doubt he lied, but possible. She said he was really nice. Maybe someone just complained directly to the cop rather than called, but who really knows. Maybe he saw the sticker and decided to be an @$$, but then saw my cutie wife and son and backtracked. I don't know for sure... Either way it all happen in a very very short period of time. So now do I worry every time she goes somewhere with our dog, do we take off the sticker?

he/she wasn't suggesting u were lying
but rather that the officer seemed to have taken it upon himself, but had to add the all too common fib that 'someone called.'
yes
I'm not suggesting anyone is lying. I've contacted 911 a couple of times, once for witnessing a hit and run and another time I found an elderly gentleman laying in the street and his truck against a nearby fence. In my dealings with 911 I was left with the feeling that I was being interrogated, a litany of questions.
Perhaps the officer had a call or something, I just doubt it was channeled through 911, that's all.

I have had a couple of occasions
where I "had" to call 911 years ago in another state, and the police respond very fast (in about 5 minutes) in Renton, Washington (the state). I think part of it had to do with the situation (guns, serious threats happening live - repeat offender well know to the cops) and the cops proximity to the scene. They love that stuff in Renton, so quite a number of them showed up for the fun with guns drawn ;)

Daughter, borrowing my car, is also dealing with
honks and thumbs up.....due to the fact I have a huge window "cling" across the rear windshield that reads Don't let the media choose, think for your self....RonPaul2008.com" She voted for O, but I'm working on her, so this attention to RP is cool.....

LOL... with a Lab you are lucky
you still have a car interior... better keep a regular supply of bones handy. I've had two black Labs and they both have been shredders. Best dog in the world to have tho...

No he did not (edit) yes he did
He did ask if she lived in town (she forgot about that until I quizzed her again today) - other than that the most he could have done is maybe taken her license plate #.

the person who lied to police
should be the one having to answer for their actions.
