School taxes
Why do people that do not have kids in public school have to pay School taxes? I believe you should have to pay for the service to sending your children to public school. If you decide to use private school, home school, or have no children, why do you have to pay a School tax? Which is the highest tax on your property and personal taxes.
Why should I have to continue to pay a school tax to educate other people's kids? If I do not use the public school system why am I forced to pay for something I don't use or is a direct benefit for me? People should only have to pay school taxes while they are using the public school system. When the use of the public system has ended, the tax should end.
Furthermore the "tax money" should be attached to the child instead of the school. The student should have the choice to attend the school of their choice. Not forced into a school system just because of the location of their residence. Having the money attached to the student instead of the school would make each school compete on getting tax money for each student enrolled in their school system, which in turn would help give the children a healthier education, and help that student make a better informed decision of school choice for his future desired goals in life.

I think school is the first
I think school is the first government benefit for many of us and understanding how the accounting all works could open a door to new understandings of fraud. I believe schools are for profit businesses and the kids are customers that live of the energy of people through taxes.
then the gov can say things like "we need to focus on education" however we know much of whats taught is indoctrination and has little to do with education. If they can steal the peoples productive energy under "education" people wont be as mad as if they just raised taxes. I think this is why they are thinking about increasing the school year and lower the school age. The gov benefits double, indoctrinate and get energy from people. a way of raising taxes.
I also think this is what the health care is all about, get everyone roped in and steal more productive energy.
there will come a day soon when the host can not sustain the parasites living off it and dies.........
Or how about this
When students fail to learn in the public education system that I pay, or in other words, when the goods I pay for are not provided. Do I have the right to demand my money back?

So you would be in favor of
So you would be in favor of taxing beyond your means today, so you would not have to pay tommorow ? Payment gets spread out when everyone pays..all the time...Time is on your side, otherwise you couldn't afford it.
Good people do Good deeds
Good people make it happen
everyone pays all the time
hmm.
kind of like running up a huge bill that you don't have any limit on now and paying FOREVER
this kind of thinking drives the inflation of costs
see the cost of higher education, rising second only to medical insurance
this is kind of like "education insurance"
insuring that we get overpriced, and dysfunctional educational services
dysfunctional because THEY DO NOT HAVE TO COMPETE
hmmmph
What a novel concept! Paying for the services you need
Can you imagine actually having to pay to educate your own kids all by yourself? What's next?
I hope you're filling the role of 'comic relief' here on the DP. All Rhino WHAOR style.

Fear is our biggest enemy.
What government needs to operate is goods and services. If it cannot receive goods or services then it collapses.
One way is to stop paying taxes, another is to have people stop working.
Fear is our biggest enemy.
Many are afraid to withhold their taxes, because they will lose their property, but in reality in this case they don't really own it, so what's to fear.
Many won't stop working because they are afraid to lose their job, but if that is the case then your job isn't really necessary. If it is really necessary, it will be there tomorrow.

My “radical” solution -
End the Federal Department of Education. Federal control of our nations schools has directly led to the "failure" we are now experiencing. In fact, its even unconstitutional.
In my state I’d want to also end the State Department of Education, and return control to the counties, and in my county I’d call to remove all administration other than the elected school board, sell the school buses, and close all the schools. We could then open neighborhood schools in buildings not currently used Monday through Friday during business hours - Elk and Rotary lodges, VFW and Mason halls etc, and yes, even Churches. Parents in each neighborhood would then decide who is going to teach their children, and then go over what is going to be taught to their children with the teacher.
Parent involvement would be vastly increased, and childhood obesity rates would plummet as kids to walk to school. Children who live out of walking distance could opt for an online/homeschool hybrid option and attend classes when/if their parents can drive them. Funding for teachers salaries, use of facilities/electricity and materials may initially require continuation of State funding as the transition occurs, but savings would be so vast that by year two all funding would be done at the County level, and by year three in the majority of neighborhoods, families who have children in school and charitable organizations would easily be able to cover all costs.
Think Government needs to involved in educating children? So did Karl Marx.

Radical Solution?
....and in what century do you live? This is the most uniformed out-of-touch solution I have read thus far. You obviously have no idea what goes on in education (and in the daily life of parents) to even suggest this. Radical? More like Ridiculous!
I'm with you. The kids have been getting smarter and smarter
since the Dept of Education was started. It's important to standardize everything and make sure that the level of knowledge expected of the brightest is no more than that of the dimmest. What matters most is how the kids feel about themseles, not if they know anything.

As a parent...
And as the grandson, son, and husband of educators - as a former drill sergeant - as a student in public and private schools and universities - I think I've picked up a thing or two about our education system, thank you very much. Oh, you must then be a fan of Marx to think my idea actually rediculous! Care to explain yourself? Are you aware of Marx's 10 planks?
Here's the one you need to read - 10. Free education for all children in government schools.
Were you one of the ones who was surprised to hear children praising Obama in song just recently? The indoctrination of our children was the sole reason Marx and the socialists who brought his ideas to America created government schools, not to actually educate them beyond their being useful to the state.
I put radical in paranthesis only because it's not a radical idea at all, it just sounds it in todays nanny state environment. If you find my ideas rediculous, I wonder if you feel the same way about our Constitution.
You ask what century I live in? One where the Constitution still lives.

Dude, I have to warn you. In a couple years, the Northern States and Southern States are going to have a war. But there's lots of gold in San Francisco California. You'll need a wagon and a good shovel. Be careful where you cross the Rocky Mountains.
Just kidding with you, I couldn't resist.

“The National Association of Educational Progress does nationwide sample testing, generally every two years. The 1998 NAEP report indicated that in tests given to 4th, 8th and 12th graders, students’ reading skills were 38 percent below basic reading levels—below basic essentially means nonfunctional as readers. That means last year’s graduation ceremonies dumped 750,000 more semiliterate 18 year olds into the work force. Equally sobering is that of the 2.5 million high school graduates each year, after 12 years of schooling, only 6 percent were reading at advanced levels.”
“The National Center for Education Statistics reveals that there are 42 million functionally illiterate adults in America and 1 in 7 college graduates have marginal literacy skills. The National Adult Literacy Survey shows that the functionally illiterate cannot even read phone books or voting ballots.”
“The National Education Goals Panel is trying to establish standards so that our young students can become educated enough to handle the 21st century. In a random sample of student testing, they found 80% failed to meet the standard in 4th grade mathematics; 78% didn’t measure up in 4th grade geography, in 4th grade history, 5 out of 6 students couldn’t meet the suggested standard. The 8th grade standards in history were not met by 85% of the students who took the test.”

Public Schools Were Created To Brainwash The Populace
Here's a reading list that will help you understand the origin and purpose for public education in this country;
NEA, Trojan Horse in American Education - Samuel Blumenfeld
The Underground History of American Education - John Taylor Gatto
The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America - Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt
Brainwashed - Ben Shapiro
The Harsh Truth About Public Schools - Bruce Shortt
Let My Children Go - Ray Moore
In short, the public education system was created to destroy the Christian and American way of life and it appears that they have had great success. If you think public schools are failing, it's because you do not know the intended purpose of public education.
Property tax
well, let me just say I agree. The whole system is trash. Volunteering in the schools has shown me what extreme waste goes on there. They are mostly too rich for their own good. Money is just thrown after money. No one cares. Football is heavily overfunded.
I agree too much money
wasted on sports
I have to agree:
I have lived in a number of states and some of them not by choice.
State of confusion, denial, misery. But the ones that bothered me most were the ones forcing me to pay for something that was of no use for me.
I lived in PA. for a while and it just grated my nerves that I would have to pay taxes for schools when I had no children. After I did have them, I made sure I lived in a place that didn't have that. Now I home school and don't worry about it much. But you should have seen the fight I had pulling them out. The school system was going to lose those funds and they don't like that.
