Just got a call from Paul's Wife
Submitted by GeorgeWashington on Tue, 12/04/2007 - 00:34Got a call on my cell phone, not sure how they got my number, but in any event, it was from Dr. Paul's wife and the message was that Dr. Paul is a doctor and he has 5 kids and 17 grandkids.
Hate me for saying this and I am not trying to be insensitive, but I am not voting for Paul because he is a doctor or has 17 grandkids. And to be honest if I didn't know about Paul before I would have been turned off to the call. I am not sure why the call isn't about what Paul is running on. A better more interested and enticing call could be:
"Hi I amRon Paul's Wife. Are you sick of the Iraq war? Are you sick of big Government spending? Are you sick of the Government trying to run your life? Are you worried about the dollar collapsing? Are you worried about the future of this Country? If so, Ron Paul is your candidate for President!"
That gets to the issues right away.
Am I wrong? I am worried that the campaign is running a really soft campaign and letting us do the work for the most part. I just read that they only have 10 paid people in New Hampshire to deal with the whole State. I mean seriously, how is that going to get the word out?
With all the money how about starting to connect more with the grassroots effort. Even just updating the website with Paul’s appearances would do wonders. Why isn’t the HQ in contact with the grassroots? Today someone came up with an idea at the CSPAN and Paul told him if you could be creative and do it on your own great. How about telling him to contact the HQ?

I'm not sure the "grassroots" was the target here
because both I (38) and my mother (67) got the same phone call that you are referring to. My mother knows I am an avid Ron Paul supporter, and she called me today to tell me about her phone call. I'm pretty sure she was going to back me up by voting for Dr.Ron anyway, but she was really impressed by the phone call. She was left with a very favorable impression of Dr. Ron Paul. She learned that he was an OB/GYN (I swear I've mentioned that to her before) and she liked hearing from his wife about their kids and grandkids.
I know for a fact that she has already heard about Dr. Paul's stance on Iraq, and that was a point of hesitation for her voting for him. The call today seemed to "personalize" Dr. Paul a bit and we talked much longer about him today after that call than we ever have before.
Just because this call didn't push your buttons, please don't dismiss it as ineffective, because I believe in my limited circumstance it was very effective. My mom *might* have gone over to Huckabee with the right persuasion, but after that call today I feel she is firmly in our camp (after our long discussion).
You may be right. I'm sure
You may be right. I'm sure there are older people that want to hear about that and makes it more personal. I guess I am just more of the fired up kind of person.

Are ya'll goin' whine or
Are ya'll goin' whine or work?
Autonomy and freedom is the success and the charm of this campaign. You must always think positive.
Concentrate on getting yourselves elected as local precinct captains that will elect the actual state delegates to the GOP convention.
Call the independents, third party members and conservative Democrats in your county and have them switch parties to vote in the mass county conventions
Send the campaign web site an e-mail; they'll add you to the list and send you messages from the congressman.
I recieved one again today.
Ron Paul's success is about speaking the truth not 'talking points'
I agree that we should work,
I agree that we should work, and some of us are doing that. However, I do not agree that we should take the Bush approach and not question or debate issues we care about. I keep hearing "to think positive" when we raise our opinions are discuss issues, but that implies that we should shut up and not question anything. I respectfully dissent to that notion. We can do both.

Carol Paul Called Me Too
Yes, I got a call from Carol too, on my land line, and wondered why none of the issues were given. Perhaps, when the wife calls, its suppose to be more "family" type message. If the HQ campaign calls, maybe it will be more on political issues? Her call as a wife of the candidate might be for "name recognition". That's the best I could determine. Who knows why they had her call. I don't think I've ever recieved a call from the wife of a candidate before. A presidential candidate at that. Have only gotten calls from campaigns in years past. The more I think about it now, I think it is pretty cool that she called, even though it was a recording.
Me too
Got a call from Mrs. Paul on my cell phone today.
Amen
I agree that we really need to find a way to get the campaign in touch with us, at least to help us orchestrate our efforts most effectively. The disconnect is likely resulting in a lot of wasted efforts.
Also, I agree that the message sounds really bland and irrelevant. TALK ABOUT THE ISSUES.
Why don't they get a "Carl
Why don't they get a "Carl Rove" involved to really get behind the campaign and get a STRONG message out. Not these softball ads and messages. Even the NH ads they have on the site are about not getting National ID cards, but very few people care about that.
Maybe its just me, but the campaign seems to be really passive in a sense, and its the people like us that are driving the campaign, but should it be like that?

The problem is with campaign
The problem is with campaign finance laws, they make it virtually impossible for them to work with us. Sad but true, and just another reason why we need to win.
I knew it has to be some
I knew it has to be some reason because they really aren't making any effort to pick up some of the grassroots ideas, but even with laws in place, they should still be able to speak with us, or at least have a representative from the HQ stay in touch with us. Just seems like we are not connecting at all.
