Empire State Building to turn red and yellow to celebrate China's 60th anniversary of communism??
Does anyone have any idea as to why in the hell this would be happening? Maybe because we owe them so much money? "In honor of??"
NEW YORK — New York's iconic Empire State Building will light up red and yellow Wednesday in honor of the 60th anniversary of communist China.
The Chinese consul, Peng Keyu, and other officials will take part in the lighting ceremony which will bathe the skyscraper in the colors of the People's Republic until Thursday, Empire State Building representatives said in a statement.
The upper sections of the building are regularly illuminated to mark special occasions, ranging from all blue to mark "Old Blue Eyes" Frank Sinatra's death in 1998 to green for the annual Saint Patrick's Day.

The U.S. needs China
China is a major trading partner with the U.S. So the light show is pure PR. China also holds a trillion or so of our debt. If they decided to cash it in, we'd be sunk. Well, we are sunk, but we'd be more sunk - if such a thing is possible.
The last thing the U.S. wants is a confrontation with China. The fact that they are the biggest communist country is besides the point. They are a major economic threat to our existence.
At the moment China is beefing up its presence in the Pacific. This may be mere sabre-rattling, but the U.S. is not amused. The Chinese have shiny new long-range missiles. This is not good either.
So the light show is a little good will, that's all.
I wonder
how long China would enjoy such expensive tastes if thoughtless Americans made a concerted effort to quit buying their products. I won't even consider entering a Walmart...It's nothing more than China west.

Never happen
Americans are not thoughtless, they are frugal. Chinese goods are cheaper and - for the most part - well made. Guitars made in China are quite good (compared with those made in Indonesia or Korea), most all of the electronics for home audio/home theatre, are made in China.
OK, if you quit buying Chinese goods, I salute you. Now you have 200M others to convince.

The communist countries are gradually adopting a capitalist model, while the US is going communist. Or is it fascist? I have trouble telling one ist from another.
Cuba just announced a daring program wherein farmers can sell their produce for profit. China has a stock market and it's easier to start a business there than here.

China's currency the Yuan is about to break into markets. This is one very strong emerging economy. I don't know about setting up a business there, but you have to get a visa from the Chinese consulate before you enter the country. (Not true for Hong Kong, however).

My understanding is
China owns our country, basically. Guess they figure that gives them the right to have these kinds of "celebrations" here in our country.
We've borrowed a ton of money from them. Not exactly sure what we used as collateral, but I think I'm glad I don't know for certain what it was. I'm sure I'd be pretty pissed off.
Besides, the "real" rulers of our country admire the Chinese gov't:
