Yes, phi is ubiquitous in nature's design. But so is water. I don't know if this proves God.

I think phi is indicative of the only way a "default" or "passive" system like nature conservatively works: it can only use what it is and was to make what will be. To me, that's exactly like:

2 (that is) + 1 (that was) = (creates) 3
3 (that is) + 2 (that was) = (creates) 5
5 (that is) + 3 (that was) = (creates) 8

Phi is found where there is no "consciousness" making decisions, only a body with the vague tendency to grow and "data" on where it is and where it was. Using that to make what will be comes...naturally.

Unlike people, nature cannot start two unrelated structures and link them together; they must separate through growth. I think phi has more to do with stable growth than "the signature of a designer". There is much wisdom in applying this ratio, but it is an emergent result of the constraints of nature.

God's signature to me would take the form of something uniquely arbitrary or additionally, cleverly constraining a system.

And to a much lesser, unrelated curiosity, digit reduction in the Fibonacci sequence (which approximates Φ) reveals an interesting pattern.

The book Godel, Escher, Bach- The Eternal Golden Braid delves into some of this too. Lee Strobel's The Case For A Creator has a great interview with Robin Collins, who has a PhD and a Doctorate in Physics, a whole chapter is devoted to the discussion of the fine-tuning of nature and the implications there.
