Iran & foreign policy

Did anyone else notice the press brief last night where the NIE shared with the rest of us that Iran pretty much abandoned its nuclear weapons program in 2003? Aren't the rest of the war-mongers touting Iran as the next biggest threat? Do you really think that the combined intelligence communities JUST figured this out, 4 years after the fact?
How long will we, the American public, allow these people to LIE to us? Isn't there one candidate that will tell the truth? A candidate that advocates actually talking to countries we see as a threat? A candidate that will bring our troops home and maintain a stronger national defense?
We need Ron Paul as our next president.

Why Ron Paul Is Right About Terrorism: A Letter to the GOP Base
by David T. Beito and Scott Horton

"Policy toward Iraq is ... not designed to protect U.S. national security. It is instead a threat to our security because it may lead to war and loss of American lives, increase terrorism and certainly an additional expense for the U.S. taxpayer. The hyped rhetoric coming from Washington which describes Hussein as the only evil monster with which we must deal in the world is a poor substitute for wise counsel. "
~ Rep. Ron Paul, Letter to President Bill Clinton, November 19, 1997
"If we don't stop extending our troops all around the world in nation-building missions, then we're going to have a serious problem coming down the road."
~ Gov. George W. Bush, Presidential debate with Al Gore, October 3, 2000
Many conservatives have said that they agree with Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul on just about everything, but they just can't see things his way when it comes to dealing with the Middle East. Paul's views – correctly or incorrectly perceived – could well be a deal breaker for some in the base of the Republican party who look for strong presidential leadership to protect us from foreign threats. This open letter is an attempt to persuade you that Paul has been, and continues to be, right about the terrorist threat and what should be done about it.
(Beito and Horton's brilliance in this piece recommends itself to even the casual reader. )
Read Joseph Campbell's "The Hero With A Thousand Faces"
invalid and inflammatory conclusions!
I heard the news on NPR last night and they played a brief recording of the conclusions of the agencies:
--------------------------------------
Finding:
Iran stopped the nuclear weapons program in 2003.
Conclusion:
Iran, if it so intended can probably make a bomb by 2013. We do not know if it wants to do so in the future or not. So we were right to be alarmed by the dangerousness of the situation.
--------------------------------------
It is unclear to me how the conclusion follows the findings! The other thing to note is that the current war propaganda is based on the same agency's conclusions in the year 2005! That is right, in 2005 they thought that Iran was making bombs.
Long story short: they do not know what is going on in Iran, and they are using that to assert whatever they feel like.
Thank Dick C., Karl R. and Robert N. for this
"They do not know what is going on in Iran, and they are using that to assert whatever they feel like."
Leaking Plame's identity effectively killed any intel we had going for us in Iran.
