I sense an awakening!
I have a friend who is a sports fanatic, Obama supporter and overall, doesn't know a whole lot about politics or economics.
In the past few days alone, I've noticed that this person has been asking me more and more questions about the topics we discuss here everyday at the daily paul. It first started out with questions about vaccines and the "swine flu", then it moved into unanswered questions about 9/11 and then when I mentioned the shinanigans that are happening in Montana, he actually took the time to do some independent reading about everything that's happening. Knowing this person for years I realize it's a BIG deal and a great opportunity to nurture him and provide him with more information.

but like a baby that hasn't grown teeth to chew yet, they have to be on a liquid diet. Do any of you have recommendations on gently bringing our new friend into our world of truth, justice and liberty?

I started a blog for my own
newly awakened friends. It's very tame by DP standards, aimed to inform but not scare away my friends although they range from standard-issue Republicans (a few) to mostly unoriginal Liberal partisans.

does this in an often humorous, but always, and especially at the end, shocking way. This is the movie that woke me up. If your friend is the cautionary type, OTOH, and it sounds like he is, I recommend Bastiat's : The Law. It's a great short read, and simply explains the advantages of laws that support freedom, as opposed to undermining it.

And allow your friend lots of time to absorb the information. Oh! And allow him to reach his own conclusions too. We can't always agree about everything.

I've found once a person asks questions about 911 they are probably ready for a video.I always leave my 911 Dvds in the case with my regular movies.when a friend or relative comes across them they usually ask "are you into that".I reply I don't have all the answers but I have a lot of questions.Then we start discussing the questions.Most of the time we end up watching 911 mysteries or martial law. I tell them some of the opinions are a little crazy but there is a lot of evidence to crush the official story.

I see the same awakening when I talk to people on the streets about swine flu - not only almost everyone takes my anti-vaccine leaflets they ask questions and some actually say openly they ALREADY KNOW the info saying they will not take the flu shot and telling me to give leaflets to others that need to be educated - very uplifting.

For all her faults, I would still start with two short essays from CAPITALISM: The Unknown Ideal.
"Man's Rights" and "The Nature of Government".
While very short essays, those are two of her best essays in my opinion. Great for beginners.

Tough one....
I have had no luck with those who are "set in their ways" so far. BUT.... the other day I had an email from my brother with just a TEENSY WEENSY glimmer of an opening. So I recommended Aaron Russo's, Freedom to Fascism, which was pretty much my first step down the rabbit hole. Haven't heard back from him....... and maybe never will.....
But in watching this fabulous documentary I realized AGAIN how wonderful it is as an "introduction" to reality. God Bless Aaron Russo.
