Bob van der Valk has a Montana blog where he has been writing about this. Go read his latest piece on the scam. It's a great read; I commented on it.

Hornswoggled
A new word in my vocabulary.........never heard it before. I guess it's like punkd. Not popular in NE yet, I'll get this puppy of a word going among the Puritans.

LOL, it certainly stumbles off the tongue!
I confess a peculiar love of odd words like this one. Cornhobbled (cornobbled) has been a family favorite for years. It means to be struck (usually in the face) with a fish.
Yup.
Gotta love that- it's so Monty Python.
But Hornswoggled is simply fantastic in its own, Montana-esque way. Bob, the blog author, gets major points for that, right there. ;)
We homeschool
vocab words for tomorrow are hornswoggle and cornhobble.
How does your family use cornhobble in everyday language? And is there a difference between cornhobbling fresh fish or saltwater?

Hee hee
Kids are 10 & 7, and we/they often use it as a verb to mean surprised, dumbfounded, etc: "When I learned that ___ did ___, I was cornhobbled!" (They used to favor gobsmacked)
Also in place of their typical pirate language, which they sometimes use in everyday conversations "Yarr, he should be cornhobbled, then keelhauled!" They often draw pictures for their friends and others, and sometimes a character is getting cornhobbled in those pictures. They have asked why the Three Stooges don't cornhobble each other. :)
It is a good Mad Libs word for parties, as they have discovered. My husband says he heard a radio show a couple years back where cornhobbled was a question for a caller who wanted to win a prize. He was driving, and started laughing so hard that he had to pull over.
You asked: "And is there a difference between cornhobbling fresh fish or saltwater?"
Fresh- or saltwater fish, I cannot say. I believe the first time I read the word, I checked into it, and the old etymology claimed to involve a codfish, and originated in or near Dover, England. So I'd say saltwater, but clearly many freshwater fish will do, LOL!
I have an image of a woodcut/engraving depicting a man being cornhobbled by a merchant (I think?). I believe it's from the early 1700's. I'll have to check images on my older hard drives, I don't have it on this current computer.
More like hornswaggled
by their own greed.
I think it was a inside job
Shay's happy go lucky attitude tells me she knew about this long time ago. She's definately part of the scam. Her sudden resignation of the local paper, her being showered with a new home, car and whatever else they gave her. She helped sell out Hardin, I'm sure of it.

Greg Smith & wife Kerri (mayoral candidate)
Both of them, too.
Kerri's comment, on the news (paraphrased) "Don't panic. Just go with the flow and everything will be fine" sent my hackles up. It smacked of that old quip, "Close your eyes and think of England" which, as many of you know, colloquially refers to unwanted sexual intercourse on a bride's wedding night. ;)
Calling Ashton Kutcher
You've been Punk'd, Hardin.
It's a shame, and thank goodness for the internet. Getting people to look closely..and all the independent research that has been going on..

Punk'd... don't know about that.
As I wrote in my comment on that site, this scam/con/swindle couldn't have been perpetrated had those officials been honest people. That's the whole essence of a con, you know, finding a mark who is looking to get something for nothing or something for less, by way of screwing someone else out of their part. Whether it's the gov't, tax man, or a fellow citizen.
Yes..my mind is still open to other ideas.
However...I think the local officials were looking for a hero, on a white horse (or in Black SUVs).
They had the giant empty 27 million dollar prison, making them look bad.
They almost made it Guantanamo North, but lost out on that deal.
Even the Officials were ripe for the plucking..Looking for an out.
And this Scam/Con...was put together with them in mind.
Like I said the other day. It was those stupid decals on the SUV's that made me think this was a bit over the top...That, and all the promises made, those promises that made people's heart's go all "atwitter"..
