Is there a good side to the Fed and to fractional reserve banking?

Again, some more thoughts.

Up until the creation of central banks, when countries were threatened by wars, they would have lots of trouble to get the money together. Kings would have to pay for their large armies out of their treasury, or out of the hides of their subjects.

But with fractional reserve banking, now countries could just print more money. This would allow them to pay for their armies, ships, tanks, and guns. The currency would get debased, but in the short run, this would be the only way to pay for large armies, etc. So, in a sense, fractional reserve banking and fiat money may have been one way to ensure the military victory for those countries practising it.

So the Fed is an enabler of wars, but also of statism and living beyond one's means. But in an emergency like a large war, it's availability maybe was lifesaving. Don't know - just putting this idea out there.
