Man, I'm getting slammed!

Obama personally working to get Chicago the Olympics really seemed to be an inappropriate preferential treatment by the President.

I love a good debate. Here's my conclusion...

I am not anti-Chicago, I love this town! I am not anti-jobs either, and do feel for the people who are out of work at the moment, it sucks. Real unemployment is over 20% (Great Depression numbers!) and the only way to alleviate that is to return Americas economic system to an environment that encourages production and manufacturing. We have to start making things again, and not just buying things. We need to start saving, not spending. Demanding short term gain for long term hardship is not looking at the big picture.

I do not believe it is a capitalistic governments role to produce jobs for people. If that were the case, they could turn on a printing press and hire people to dig holes, then hire other people to fill them back up! Magic jobs! Thankfully, the economy does not work that way. The governments role in the economy is to provide a sound currency for people to use in the exchange of goods and services. (Also, protect from fraud.) America is failing to do that. The IOC probably realizes this, and understands that America is in a slow decline, circling the drain as it were. The IOC will pretty much sue anyone who uses 5 rings in any configuration as a logo, so they can take their "brotherhood of man" chicanery elsewhere as far as I'm concerned. Even using the word "olympics" in a way not approved by committee causes much teeth gnashing and furrowed brows among the bureaucrats. The IOC is made up mostly of wealthy European socialists, who complained about all the souvenir stands during the Atlanta olympics. Private capitalists (ie, regular people who printed tee-shirts and buttons to sell) were deemed "beneath the olympic ideal". But the capitalist television revenue that comes from broadcasting the games is welcomed. Hypocrite much?

The olympics has traditionally been used to showcase smaller cities on the world stage that are up-and-coming and trying to make a name for themselves. Chicago is already a world-renown city, which will still draw many tourists yearly, regardless of whether it hosts an orgy of massive government spending, tax-payer raping nationalistic pandering. (unless people start getting sick of the repugnant TSA) It's also important to remember that government doesn't "have" money. The only money it has is what it steals from the citizens. Government isn't known for creating wealth, but for destroying it.

Bringing jobs to Chicago, should not be dependent on the Olympics being held here. Sure, people would work for a time, but at the expense of the taxpayer (ie socialism). It's not a sustainable job, as the temporary workers will go right back to being unemployed after the games are over because the fundamental problems will still be there, and now the tax burden will only be higher. The work is unproductive, because there is no real demand for new stadiums, villages, etc. It's make work jobs, mixed with crony capitalism and political influence peddling. How upsetting that certain administration officials won't be able to flip their inner city properties for 5x profit now! Or that Axlerods company won't get the communications deal he was set to win. Darn, now they can't justifiably subsidize moving low-income people out of the city! And more...

If the olympics had been brought to Chicago, the losers would have been the taxpayers. At least now we know about the "rainy day fund" and perhaps use it on something that will actually benefit the taxpayer, instead of placing another yoke of IOU's and debt enslavement around them.

Besides all that however, maybe, just maybe, the world is beginning to resent the United States. Screwing up the world economy using a ponzi scheme monetary system, enabled by a private group of unelected elite bankers, may have caused some nations to sit up and take notice, and dismiss the notion of rewarding such behavior. Maybe dropping bombs on women and children who have done nothing to harm us isn't the best way to lobby for international favours. America needs to get it's house in order, before it can start hosting any parties.

Lastly, cities that host the olympics, tend to brutalize the poor.

Sports are a great distraction from the point of view of government and the FED while they pull levers and turn dials to devalue our money.

Not that I'm immune to those "Open mouth, insert foot" moments, but, if you ask me, the media images of those animals beating the honor student to death in South Chicago probably blew any chance of the Olympics being held there.

But in short, it's really about spending money today that you won't see a return on for seven years, if you even break even at all. Chicago, like the rest of the nation is going through a recession, and it's the working man who would footing the bill if Chicago went over their budget or failed to raise the money to pay for promotions and infrastructure.

Also, as I mentioned before, those with a good economy hold influence, hence Brazil...Tell them to vote differently next time and maybe we'd have the influence to bring in an event like this, but people are starting to hate the American bankers and administration because of all the crooks, now the world is looking elsewhere.
