Michael Moore misses the mark!
Submitted by Cicero23 on Fri, 10/02/2009 - 21:12Oh My God Daily Paul...am I fired up!
I just got back from seeing Michael Moore's new documentary, "Capitalism, A Love Story".
Here's the short review; the movie has many shortcomings and misses the mark by making all the wrong conclusions. Now if you want the long version, please continue...
I want to start by saying I have nothing against Michael Moore and I don't vehemently hate him as so many others do. I have seen a number of his documentaries and approach them all with an open mind. Now I'm relatively new to this whole game of liberty, individual rights, free markets, the Federal Reserve, Ron Paul, etc. I'm only 28 years old, and while I feel like I've already missed the political-train, I was saddened to see that upon entering the theater, I did not see one person my age. Everyone in there was middle-aged married couples (not that it's bad, just an observation).
Michael Moore begins the first half of his film by telling the very personal, heart-wrenching stories of families across our country that have experienced tragedy in the form of job loss, house foreclosure, and even employees who have had life insurance policies taken out on their lives unbeknownst to them by their employers. As you may imagine, these stories stirred up a great deal of emotion, as it's so personal to many of our lives.
From that emotion, Moore delves into the problems and pitfalls of Capitalism. He successfully points out that the big banks on Wall Street are at the center of the problem. While also successfully pointing out that there is a lot of greed, unfairness, and overall, a lot of suffering going on. However, what he fails to point out is that the big banks are merely the VEHICLE for the problem and is not the ROOT of the problem. Which is not Capitalism at all, but the fractional reserve banking system which operates under the name, The Federal Reserve. Moore further fails to point out that it was from this very system of laissez-faire free enterprise, freedom, hard work and industrialization that has made this country wealthy and prosperous.
In the end, the movie was full of contradictions. He championed Barack Obama and slammed Timothy Geithner, while failing to point out that he was nominated to Treasury Secretary BY Obama himself. Moore also championed FDR and his intention of writing a second bill of rights that would ensure every American citizen: a home, a decent paying job, medical coverage, etc. etc. But as many of us know, it is not the responsibility of the government to provide us with a home or a job or medical coverage. It is not the government that determines these things, but rather market forces.
Throughout the movie there was no mention of the Federal Reserve, our federal government that is growing like a cancer, Ron Paul or even Peter Schiff for trying to warn us a long time ago. I was disappointed that he did not give credit to where credit is due. Instead he took up 2 and 1/2 hours worth of time with snarky little clips and the ever-so-often jabs at George Bush. The one thing that I am happy that came out of the film was the way Moore BASHED Chris Dodd, which I hope will give Peter Schiff a little more support in Connecticut. Moore did also include the clip of Representative Sherman, when he gave his speech on the house floor about the threats of "martial law".
Lastly, I was really frustrated that the entire theater started clapping at the end of the film. While frustration and empathy is understandable, it's a waste if the viewers still don't know who the REAL culprit of our economic problems are.
Thank you for your patience

Capitalism seems to be treating Moore pretty well
Moore himself is one of these ultra-wealthy few, with a net worth exceeding $50 million. On November 1, 2005, World Net Daily reported that the anti-capitalist Moore -- who had proudly declared "I don't own a single share of stock!" -- in fact owned tens of thousands of shares in U.S. stocks. Most notably, Moore owned more than 2,000 shares in Halliburton -- the gas and oil company he excoriated in his film Fahrenheit 9/11.

Thomas Jefferson once said, "The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground."
Well, I guess he called that one.
A Republic, If You Can Keep It
If Only Michael Moore Knew What "Capitalism" Meant
He might make a better movie.

Well the goal has always
Well the goal has always been to destroy the US from within and then to usher in a Communistic world system. So might as well get used to the idea of giving 100% of Your income so the less fortunate whom don't have jobs can live the life also. Don't look at it as slavery look at it as a way to help out your fellow man. If You don't like it tough because thats the way its going to be because the majority have spoken and thats what they want...
Now if You don't agree then all I can say is You better get prepared because its coming.
Michael Moore's
post over at HuffPo ties in well with what you're saying here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-moore/for-those-of-you...

Michael Moore is a nice dude
Michael Moore is a nice dude who is just not as smart as people want to think he is. He is entertaining and "supportive" while dealing with topics that are personal and relevant to people's lives. Hence, he attracts attention and support. I liked the movie. If nothing else, it felt good for something offered to a mass audience that "yells" at the power hungry, greedy assholes in the country. However, regardless of particular rights and wrongs of the movie, more importantly, he simply named it wrong. He should have been called something like "Corporatism: An Affair" He alludes to this in a interview on the Bill Maher show when Bill was saying I'm not I'm a huge fan of really getting rid of capitalism (whatever that truly means). He explained why and Michael said yeah but what you're talking doesn't really exist anymore. Today it's rich people are rich and that's pretty much it. No real freedom towards upward mobility. He was talking about corporatism but, as I said, he's not as smart or maybe not as educated as people want to think he is.
I guess you were right...
This movie only made $1,500,000 in it's opening night...
Not going to pay the bills

Thanks
Thanks for the cliff notes, you have saved me the agony of stomaching his brain diarrhea. I don't mean to come across as a close minded individual, I just know who this guy is and what he stands for and frankly I can't stand to look at him much less hear his voice.
Here is the real kicker...Ready, .... It is Capitalism itself that has made Michael Moore a millionaire yet he will not acknowledge that in his film.
I always try to keep a very open mind and I think you are brave for viewing it. Put it this way, I would not see Fahrenheit 911 simply because it was produced by his big fat head. Even if it was 100% right on I still feel the same.
If it weren't for the God fearing people on your post I would tell you how I really feel about this turd.

I don't agree
It's CORPRATISM that put Michael Moore where he is. He exploits corpratism as capitalism, he works of, for and by MSM (corporate) as a "controlling opposition". He is a propegandist no different than any corporation. Where's his competition?
Capitalism is the black market.. it's in the BLACK, and here, it's illegal, instead the USA employs the Fed and the Fed employs Keynesian economics which enslaves us all.
WE ARE GOING TO WIN!
"Where's his competition?"
I love how competition has become such a loaded word that you can use it to attack a film director.
CHA-CHING!
CHA-CHING!
I was at a Grateful Dead show
The parking lot was full of people selling anything and everything. No taxes, no regulations, no license, just wheelin' and dealin'. I got into a conversation with some guy who tells me, "This (meaning the sales in the parking lot) is socialism at it's best."
So I ask, "How do you figure this is socialism?"
He goes on to tell me that this is people working together to help each other.
To me, it was capitalism because there were 10K pot dealers competeing for 50K potential pot sales. Who knows how many varieties of pot. At one show I scored 5 different types of goo balls (energy bars made with cannabis oil, or what ever... really creative food).
The black market is capitalism.. drugs should be "legalized", and would be naturally under a Miseian economic policy, eh?
WE ARE GOING TO WIN!
So... you do know that people other than Michael Moore
make films to be released in the U.S. right?
CHA-CHING!
CHA-CHING!
Absolutely, like candy
there are allot of categories to compete in, such as docu,mentary.. and where's Moore's competition? Where's the film maker that calls corporatism what it is?
WE ARE GOING TO WIN!

Capitalism aka Feudalism: A Love Story
There, I fixed the title for you Mr. Moore.
Read this online book and learn the correct name of the system we have today.
Feudalism aka American Capitalism

Where did you get this figure?
"When you have a system where 95% of the people are dirt poor, and the top 1% are filthy rich and own and run everything, clearly then ... you need some sort of referee here to step in and intercede."
What that from Michael Moore? Then he must think that most of the people who own homes, businesses, a couple of cars & take vacations are dirt poor. I know there are a lot of us. We're not doing very well right now, but we're certainly not POOR!
I won't pay a dime to see Moore's film, but does he talk about the tax advantages the rich have? If the people knew how most of these people send their money out of the country & never get taxed, they'd explode. I'm not a "tax the rich" person, but the IRS is an entity that has contributed BIG TIME to our economic mess. Moore should have been protesting outside the IRS office. Until he does that, I fart in his general direction.

In April, the G20 representatives took action to crack down on nations which provide tax havens. Offending countries will face a trade blacklist. President Obama also agreed to develop regulatory measures that would prevent fat cat CEO's from pocketing ill-gotten bonuses.

Yeah, that's the ticket!
Let's just extend the IRS terror-network worldwide, and show people in all those other countries how wonderful the IRS is.
Why should people be able to keep their incomes anyway?
It all belongs to the state, right?
By comparison to Gates, Murdock, Rockefeller..
they are dirt poor.

Exactly
And Abraham Lincoln saw it coming:
Moore ought to put his loads
Moore ought to put his loads of money where his fat mouth is by giving it all up to an organization that works for the common good of mankind.
Moore rails against
capitalism so in response instead of giving eight dollars to watch his movie, I'm going acquire it through means that deprive him of money.

Moore defines the word hyppocrite...
It's this very capitalistic ideology which allowed him to become a rich man with his movies in the FIRST place.
But when asked in an interview last week why he doesn't just donate more to charity instead of railing against our system, he answered that he feels that it shoud be done collectively (public money).
He is one of those who confuses charity with socialism.
It's too bad because even tho I never saw his anti-Iraq war film, I largely agreed with him on that illegal adventure.
