Audit the Fed Hits 300 Co-Sponsors
300 Members of The House Support Audit the Fed
October 02, 2009
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, the number of cosponsors in the U.S. House of Representatives for HR 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, climbed to 299. Including Congressman Ron Paul, the bill’s author, 300 members of the House of Representatives now support an audit of the Federal Reserve. S 604, the Senate companion bill, currently has 30 cosponsors.
HR 1207 would open up the Fed’s funding facilities, such as the Primary Dealer Credit Facility, Term Securities Lending Facility, and Term Asset-Backed Securities Lending Facility to Congressional oversight and an audit by the non-partisan Government Accountability Office. Additionally, audits would include discount window operations, open market operations, and agreements with foreign central banks, such as ongoing dollar swap operations with European central banks.
“Less than a year ago, an audit of the Federal Reserve wasn't on anyone's radar. Now the idea has the support of seventy five percent of the American people and a majority of Congress,” said Jesse Benton, Senior Vice President at the Campaign For Liberty, which has been leading the grassroots effort in support of the bill since its introduction. “The policies put forth by the Fed have played a major role in the economic trouble our nation faces, so an audit of its operations is the common sense thing to do.”
“When 300 members of the House support a bill, that indicates overwhelming support by the American People. HR 1207 should be brought to the House Floor for a prompt vote,” continued Benton.
Support for the bill, which has been gathering steadily since being introduced earlier this year by Congressman Ron Paul, has reached a fever pitch in recent weeks with widespread media coverage on the release of Paul’s highly anticipated book, End The Fed, and hearings on Fed transparency in the House Financial Services Committee held late last week.

HR 1207 could be passed under suspension, as RP has said many times.
Prompt vote

"It needs 51% to win either house, 60% to defeat a filibuster in the Senate if there were to be one, and 67% in both houses to override a presidential veto."
OK OK OK!...so what your saying is the only way we can pass this bill is to make it impossible for obama to veto it???? sooooo that means we ONLY have to get 67% of the senate to co-sign it! right??? if this is the sure thing lets make it clear to everyone, that sounds encouraging to me.

I find it ironic that such a high number of congressman who voted for the bailout are now supporting this bill. Sounds like they want their cake and eat it to.
They know the backlash is coming in the mid term elections.
i'll tell ya what's happening.
this number of 300 was posted on lew rockwell, C4L, ron's congressional
site and now here. on lew rockwell's site he said "liberal democrat women".
it is 299 + ron = 300 (i'm pretty sure that's how it is.)
i spoke with someone at C4L and they were also looking for names.
i spoke with someone in ron's dc office this am and was told it would
be up on thomas tomorrow.
we only have one name - rep. pingree, chellie (Me - 2). i guess we'll
find out the other one tomorrow.

We gotta keep on truckin'
Ain't over yet! And we have to work hard on the Senators for S604.
I am not sure if we need 51% or 2/3rd vote. Does anyone know?
It needs 51% to win either
It needs 51% to win either house, 60% to defeat a filibuster in the Senate if there were to be one, and 67% in both houses to override a presidential veto.
Why are there still 135 hold
Why are there still 135 hold outs? What possible reason could they give for not wanting to know about the actions of an unconstitutional private bank that was swindled us out of 96 cents of the 1913 dollar?
"Representative" Mike Honda
In the case of my congress critter, well, he just does whatever Pelosi says to do. For him the seat in the House is sort of like a McDonald's franchise. He does his "work" strictly by the book that the franchise provides.
I hope that doesn't reflect the number of perverts that are
beholding to the Fed agents!!!
Because these 135 holdouts
Because these 135 holdouts know that they can't get their precious wefarism (liberals) or warfarism (neocons). I bet the 135 non-cosponsors probably fall into one or both of these buckets.
That would seem like a
That would seem like a reasonable statement, but every republican in the entire house has signed on to the bill. I know the republican party took a beating in the last election, but there has to be at least one neocon left in the congress. I'm sure a lot of neocons have been pressured by their consitutents to signing on to this bill even though they may not realize the consequences it could have for their precious warfarism.
Being that all 135 of the non-cosponsors are democrats, it probably has something to do with loyalty to the new president. They know that the party leaders and the president do not want to have to deal with this bill, so they may actually be willing to risk their own re-election in order to save their president from suffering further embarassment or the stress of trying to veto the bill once it reaches his desk.
The neocons "hijacked" the
The neocons "hijacked" the libertarian credo of limited government. If Mitt Romney wins in 2012, they'll revert to their Big Government preferences.
Interesting notion on loyalty to the president. Now if the president is committed to true transparency and being a champion of the middle class, why hasn't he pushed for an audit of the FED?
Remember when that guy kept
Remember when that guy kept promising during the campaign that he'd post every bill for 5 days for the nation to review and comment on before the congress got a chance to vote on it? And then almost the first thing he did was pass a 1,000+ page stimulus bill that the representatives got to glance at for about 30 to 45 seconds before they had to vote on it. There's your transparency.
Does anyone know
who the last three co-sponsors are? I heard they are all liberal women.
Thomas.gov
Still says 297. It's notoriously slow to update (AFAIK).
O.K.
I'll wait patiently.
