Ayn Rand Philosophy Falls Short 10/6/2009

Mean Street columnist Evan Newmark tells Deputy Markets Editor Dennis Berman subscribing to Ayn Rand's philosophy of rugged individualism may not be the best for business -- at least not at Goldman Sachs.

They need to be educated about Mises.

Apparently these guys missed

Apparently these guys missed the big long speech that Galt reads over the radio because somehow these guys are trying to say that organizations who receive government handouts are bastions of capitalism.

The reason that this philosophy falls short, at least has fallen short, is because there is no incentive to go it alone and make it without some kind of handout. Once you accept the handout you are operating under a different set of ideals.

If this system of today does finally collapse then I think you will see a certain segment of the remaining population start operating in more community oriented, pro-capitalist, anti-intervention, local systems much like Galt's Gulch.

I'm not sure they really understand Rand all that well.

The strangest part - the idea that selflessness within a company is good for the company.
