Have we entered a Libertarian era? by Charleston Ron Paul Examiner!

by Rick George, Charleston Ron Paul Examiner

The 2008 elections forever changed the political landscape of American politics. Ron Paul, who had been waging the lonely war of libertarianism since the '70's had finally discovered an audience,
Seemingly, overnight, the pleasant, grandfatherly statesman became an internet sensation.

He continually baffled the conniving media by defeating their polls, defying their script and generally swimming against the grain. In just 24 hours, the humble congressman raised over $6 million, completely defying the American political machine.

For Dr. Paul, however, it was just business as usual. He had been preaching the same message for nearly 30 years. It simply had finally struck a nerve. Voters who had been keeping an eye on politics, many of them students, had become disturbed by trends in government which now threatened the liberty and freedoms of American citizens.

Progressive vs Conservative...

Uh Oh here we go!

"There are only two ways to conquer and enslave a nation. One is by sword, the other is by debt." - John Adams

Hannity is a Rightist Neo-Conservative

And a narcissistic jackass.
(In response to the report that Hannity claims to be a libertarian.)

The only real Libertarians

The only real Libertarians proved themselves with what resulted in the only prosperous nation in the world, America. The 19th century Democrats, following Jefferson to Cleveland set the tone of what we call Libertarian. The 20th century Democrats follow Rousseau and Marx as cited in THE CHANGING FACE OF DEMOCRATS (Amazon.com) and on www.claysamerica.com. Ron Paul is proven by what the 19th century Democrats accomplished and proposed, particularly in their opposition to central banks and advocacy for gold.

Forgive me, But...

The article states "Conservatives had skeptically bought the line that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, and that Osama Bin Ladin was somehow tied to the destruction of the World Trade Center. However, by the close of 2008, both of these notions had been completely discredited." Maybe I'm out of the loop on this, and if so, please set me straight. But I hope this is a editing error, right? I mean, shouldn't it say, "..and that Saddam Hussien was somehow tied to the destruction of the World Trade Center." ??

The late Osama Bin Laden was

The late Osama Bin Laden was never officially wanted for 911. There wasn't enough evidence to issue a warrant. He was used as the excuse to go to war.

Blessings )o(

Blessings )o(

That maybe, but it really

That maybe, but it really doesn't answer my question. I think the author meant Saddam Hussien... especially considering he was discussing the Iraq war and the absurd excuses used by those who urged this disaster on the American people.

No, I meant Osama...

This first section was meant to be a backdrop showing the progression of conservative angst from confusion to irritation to full blown anger. Cheney and Rumsfeld have stated, which have been captured on youtube, that there was never any proof connecting Bin Laden with the WTC...

To my knowledge, there was never a question that Hussein was directly involved, only that he had ties to Al Quaeda...

You are right on the point

You are right on the point about Saddam and how some in the administration suggested ties to al Qaeda. But it also seemed clear that by suggesting such ties, they were 'implying' a connection to 9/11.

I haven't seen these videos you mention. Would love to though!
By the way, I like reading your stuff. Thanks for answering and clarrifying the issue for me.

I think we have entered a

I think we have entered a FEND FOR YOURSELF era ..That's what the gov't is doing..Screw responsible people for all they are worth ..They want it ALL.
Good people do Good deeds
Good people make it happen

Progressive Libertarian

What amazes me is before I ever saw anyone use the term "progressive libertarian," I had made up the term to describe myself.... and along the same lines that I now see others using. That is, I want personal liberty but acknowledge that as long as we have a huge population, we're going to have to self-impose environmental protections. Crazy. I'd love to see this third party come together.

I am with you

And I'm sure there are others

"We`re going to have to self-impose enviromental protections"

Sounds like a government program, no very libertarian.

"We have to spend money to keep from going bankrupt"
Joseph Biden VP , USA

"Since 1789 the only government on Earth that has the power to crush the American people`s liberties across the board is the government of the United States"
Robert Higgs

The only party I ever joined was Libertarian Party 1976

I was under the unfluence of Ayn Rand, and NORML advertisement in Playboy.

I began registering independent in 1992, after the suggestion of Ralph Nader, who has never belonged to any party, or as he refeers, collective.

The Libertarian Party, like the Green Party on the left, are "spoilers", which is why the LP ran GOP Bob Barr, and GP ran Dem McKinney.

Imagine a Barr McKinney Party.

Do you think it might look anything like a Ron Paul Ralph Nader party?

What would a Ron paul Ralph Nader Party look like?

There would be no federal reserve bank, no foreign wars, no war on drugs, no UN, no Israel, cannabis would become an industry as a few examples of what their platforms have in common. There would have to be compromises, but I think this is more about terms and understanding.

Ralph Nader has never been a government employee or elected. To my knowledge, no one has sued the government more than Nader, who has some 80 federal laws/acts , including the Freedom of Information Act... thank Nader.. my study of Nader indicates to me, that Nader's genius was he saw the corporations as unconstitutional way ahead of anyone... he became a consumer advocate, establishing non-profit organizations to watch government and corpotations... Nixon took Nader's non-profits and made them govt departments. Nader fought back,. established Public Interest Research Groups... takes no corporate or fed money.

Instead of having an EPA, OSHA, etc, there would be a market of, by and for consumer protecting by private consumer advocates and groups

One of the things that came to mind about Libertarians, Jack Herer, The Hemperor, Steve Kubby, helped write CA prop 215 medical marijuana, this is the group that has allot in common with Nader, also I would add, Justin Raimondo of antiwar, com and Alexandre Cockburn of Counterpunch as two examples of those who have already bridged the gap on peace / antiwar issues, forming a neo-populist interest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo-populism

A Paul/Nader ticket would

definitely be interesting, not so sure it would fly tho...

Is it just me or do others have trouble taking Nader seriously... I guess there are those that would say the same about our guy too...

I take Ron Paul and Ralph Nader seriously

As I pointed out, they agree on many issues, and both share common enemies, for the bog one MSM who marginalizes them both.

To me, there is a third party... the neo party. The neoliberals infiltraited the Democrat Party and outted the Liberals blaming the GOP, while the neocons, joined the GOP, and outted the conservatives, while blaming the Democrats. That how we end up with someone like Sarah Palin... how did a PTA mom become governor of one of the rishest states of the union, in oil, gold, timber, fish and weapons like HAARP?

It ised to be the major parties vetted their future candidates in the third parties. Obama was vetted in The New Party, but things have changed. Now the major parties place their candidates as president nominations in the third parites.

Those who helped Nader have allot of experience in ballot access laws and experience with getting an independent on the ballot. Ron Paul Republicans have no clue how to do this because they were so busy trrying to become delegates for the GOP.

We have allot to learn from each other. Either we do this with respect for our mutual agreements, or we fail over semantics.

I really do hope so.....

For the sake of real liberty for all.....

"Obama’s Economists: ‘Stimulus’ Has Cost $278,000 per Job."

That means: For each job "created or saved" about five were destroyed.

Me too

I was torturing myself by listening to his radio program for 15 minutes and boy was I surprised "how things have changed, ya right, since I last heard Hannity." What a crock.
