CDC: 37 states report widespread swine flu cases

0 votes

ATLANTA – Health officials say swine flu activity is picking up, with 37 states now reporting widespread cases.

Officials with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Friday that the count is up from 27 states the previous week. The figures suggest a leveling off of flu activity the previous week may have been short-lived.

Illinois student dies from presumed swine flu

Ok, maybe you swine flu skeptics are right, but what if you're wrong?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/09/michelle-fahle-nape...

"Michelle Fahle, 14, died after being rushed to the hospital Thursday following several days of flu like symptoms, the Daily Herald reported. On Friday, Naperville North announced that she had H1N1, though officials made clear that it has not been established as the actual cause of death.
DuPage County health officials said an investigation into the extent of H1N1's role in Fahle's death would take up to 14 days. Fahle's best friend told the the Tribune that both girls got sick two weeks ago after hugging a girl who later tested positive for swine flu."

Medicine is not perfect, and we won't know for a while if this death was due to swine flu or not. But healthy 14-year old girls just don't often die out of the blue for no obvious reason, especially after developing symptoms of the flu. So what's the risk of the vaccine really? Do you want to take this chance with your kids?

Since the H1N1 vaccine is not yet available, it's a moot point for now, and I'm still on the fence about vaccinating. But the risk of vaccination is low, and I would feel terrible looking back if one of my kids got really sick because I advised them against getting vaccinated based on trumped up fears that don't really have any good basis in fact.

HIV vs. Swine Flu

It seems that a majority of the deaths in younger people that were in school had HIV which officials fear would cause an even bigger panic. It has a two fold benefit to say that the student died from swine flu, it distracts from an HIV death and furthers a panic to get an untested vaccine for another virus.

Problem is blowback. It proves there is no pandemic if hospitals weren't given the ability to test, but are given a vaccine. Greed can't hide.

Do a comparison...

how many regular flu cases are there? This is fearmongering at its worst, around here they send a television crew to every single sick kid that makes it to the hospital...4 have died and EVERY ONE of them had underlying or pre-existing conditions. How many television crews are visiting the hundreds if not thousands of "other type" flu cases?....none. If you can't see what is happening around you, don't worry, you probably never will.

None of the Doctors/Pharmacist at my wife's hospital are taking the vaccine and none are recommending it to ANYONE. It will be available at the request of patients, but that is it. Apparently some peoples memory reaches all the way back to 1976 when the last government built flu vaccine campaign killed more than the flu did. Scared of the flu?..go get shot up with a live virus of that flu, and then be contagious for three weeks..sounds like an idiots plan to me..have at it. Hopefully you will come to your senses, we can only hope.

Exactly

I noticed these two statements:

"Naperville North announced that she had H1N1, though officials made clear that it has not been established as the actual cause of death. DuPage County health officials said an investigation into the extent of H1N1's role in Fahle's death would take up to 14 days. "

- So this is still SPECULATION.

Why don't people wait for the facts instead of injecting untested garbage into their veins? Because we have become a nation of gutless propagandists who have completely abandoned reason.

Question...have you received the vaccine?

I'd be interested to know if you or anyone in your family has gotten the mist or vaccine? Even the "normal" flu shot? Did you have side effects or did you get the flu? Might be interesting to ad lib a poll of sorts here.

For me, I will never have another vaccine...no flu yet in our family.

Alpacas - IT'S DOABLE

I got the regular flu

I got the regular flu vaccine. No side effects other than a slightly sore shoulder for a day or two. Last year I got the "flu mist" version, and felt a bit stiff for a day or so, but nothing serious. I spend too much time on crowded subways, conventions and airplanes to deal with the flu, and getting the regular vaccine here is as simple as going to the drug store and paying $25. If I lived a bit more remote, with less exposure to coughing people from all corners of the world on a daily basis, I probably wouldn't bother, as I'm young and healthy, and there may well be some long term side effects to depriving my immune system from exposure to something as natural as a flu virus.

No idea about H1N1 vaccine, but I have enough friends with young kids, so I'm sure I'll be informed as soon as it is out. Big City daycare parents tend to be pretty concerned about flus and such.

Total propaganda...

Show us the tests on each individual who died. Show us if they died from secondary conditions. Show us how many people die of seasonal flu in a typical year. Then lets discuss whether this is a pandemic.

Exactly..

they ignore the thousands upon thousands of cases of regular flu, simply because there is a "vaccine" for those. This is new and exciting, and guaranteed to make them billions. No camera crews at normal flu cases, but camera crews in the hospital rooms of every sick kid or pregnant woman out there...fearmongoring is what it is. The news said yesterday that we had 4 people die and ALL of them had serious pre-existing conditions. It is ridiculous.

Only the CDC has the test for swine flu

The WSJ said that there are no labs running the tests. I thought it was just labs in my area not testing.

What?!?

Are you saying the only people who can definitively diagnose the swindle flu are the same people who are claiming it's an imminent threat?

Unbelievable, the stats are fake

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124138858052581321.html

By the time I finally reached my doctor by phone on Monday, my left arm had lost its strength. She ordered me to the emergency room. But I first asked her to do a swab for swine flu. "No way, that's in Washington's hands," she said. The state hotline confirmed it: Only the federal government could send a team to test a suspected case.

When I arrived at Montefiore Medical Center, the hospital immediately put me into isolation after hearing my story and confirming the fever. A doctor thought he could eliminate the possibility of A/H1N1 flu by swabbing for Type A influenza, which he said included swine flu. The swab came back negative. The doctor said I didn't have swine flu.

Then, two days later, an infectious diseases doctor said it could not be ruled out that I had A/H1N1 because of the imperfection of the test on type A. But she said that by Wednesday, New York City was inundated and refused any more samples unless patients had recently been to Mexico or were in contact with known victims. Another doctor told me they specifically refused mine.

I called New York City authorities, who told me they don't need to test everyone with the A/H1N1 virus and can't. They said they test only to identify and contain areas of outbreak.

Wow

Sandra, I must say I'm learning this from your story. I'd never even thought about how they're counting the cases of H1N1. I thought every doctor could diagnose it by some standard test. Science is science, right? I'm a database guy. If what you're saying is true then we should demand the criteria of this test. I've never filled out a Freedom of Information Act request but I'm tempted to try in this case. This should be huge news. They tell us who's got it but they won't say how they know. Damn it, no matter how much you try to be aware of things there's always some backdoor angle that's practically impossible to know for sure.

Imagine living in a

Imagine living in a civilized society, where you could buy the swabkit mail order, with instructions on how to use it, or, should you feel so inclined, let a nurse you trust perform the test. Then send it to a lab. Or, if you're really paranoid, order 5 swabs and send each one to a different lab, perhaps even in different countries. And, as you'd be paying for the tests yourself, there would be no shortage of labs competing for your dollars.

Instead, we are stuck with a bunch of government nitwits on a fixed budget, more concerned about what share of that budget goes to public sector union benefits than to actual serving of clients, rationing access to those they deem "most deserving." But that's how shitholes work, I suppose.

Read an interesting article yesterday.....

It said that places that had a huge outbreak last summer (like NY City), are NOT having a huge outbreak this winter. This would lead one to believe that getting the flu causes natural immunity! DUH!!! I'll see if I can find it and post it. It actually showed what many of the doctors are saying. That GETTING the flu provides a better immunity than any vaccine.

Here it is

Manufactured Crisis

Of course cases are going up because people are getting flu shots and nasal mists. They are creating the larger pandemic they predicted.

We could affect our own valuable "reform" of our health care system, if the everyday doctor got up to speed on the importance of good nutrition and supplements. Encourage your kids to play out-of-doors for fresh air, natural vitamin D, and to get plenty of sleep. It seems there is a trend to kids staying up until the wee hours of the morning, tweeting, playing games and texting. Part of our health problems are derived by lack of nutirion in our food, lack of exercise, lack of sleep and lack of sunshine, imo.

I got sick with flu symtoms yesterday

But I take my vitamins so I'm feeling good today! My dad suggested I get a flu shot which made for an excellent opportunity to drop some knowledge on him. Get your vitamin D folks.

2000 percent increase - 10 pct of school out per day

My Kids school went from 2 cases last week to 40 this week. Average time out 3 days per kid. The district next to us I hear is worse.

Everyone in my family got hit by it and I swear the dog did too.

The Docs did not care if it was h1n1 or regular flu so I wonder if the stats are skewed lower becase of this detail.

I am on day seven, my wife on day 4. Our 6 year old has

not been sick at all. I finally went yesterday to doc to get some cough meds. His diagnose was upper respiratory infection. When I said, "not swine flu", we shared a chuckle.
