What Would You Do Next If You Were Glenn Beck?
Submitted by Daddy WarBucks on Fri, 10/09/2009 - 12:45
We can check off the obvious things like seek treatment etc.
But how would you cover topics that threaten our country?
What constructive effort would you focus on first, second, third?
We have the ability to shape the agenda on Glenn Beck's Show. Who cares who gets the credit if we can expose and neutralize the shadow government?
For example would you put your money where your mouth is and cover the 2009 Continental Congress?

When he removes himself
He should take Hannity, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Coulter, and a few others with him when he goes.
Start at least on occasion
Start at least on occasion suggesting some possible solutions to all the bad stuff he so animatedly riles his audience into fear about. It's all good and well to scare people about Obama and his cronies, as having them in charge of history's most powerful military is certainly scary, but scaring people only gets you so far. There are plenty of people out there perfectly able to articulate solutions to what ails our country, and many of them are even very good speakers and presenters. Like Tom Woods, for example. Have him on often. That way, the show won't simply end with a question mark and no suggestions every time.
Another thing I would focus on, is the 2010 Republican primaries. As Beck claims to be a 'libertarian', or at least close to one, he could very well use his perch to give more airtime to the more libertarian minded candidates running, like Harris, Dennis and Rand Paul. It's not like his fellow channel mates won't feature the "mainstreamers" enough to more than "fair and balance" out the network as a whole. And many of the small government candidates could really use the exposure, particularly as Beck's audience is one who will likely give them a good hearing.
First and foremost...
...I'd go buy one of those neck slimmer things right away :)
...then I'd stop playing devil's advocate for the establishment...
...then I'd get fired.
I think I would remove myself from the
planet.
Great then we'd be left with Hannity and O Reilly
Any other self-destructive ideas?

Audit The Fed
I would get on the bandwagon and push Dr. Paul's push to audit the Fed.

I would further my career by realizing my greatest potential
and I would become a car salesman.
If I were Beck: Admit that
If I were Beck: Admit that LDS is a cult and that the whole thing was made up in the 1800's by someone who was either delusional or a huckster. Of course that describes Beck in a nutshell, so I guess it's a perfect fit.
I would huff this

I would...
commit suicide. He is so full of crap and a fraud to real liberty. Granted he says some good things occasionally, but he is only truly out for one person, and that is GB. Every man has his price, and apparently, right now for GB, it's about $50,000,000.
probably not
I think the whole concept is a little hard for your average person to understand.

I would take my loot and start my own for real truth show
But since he never will, why pollute Daily Paul with his waste?
Along with the rest of the talking heads, including Moore.
And people want to trash Jones. Free speech, OK. But I finally must object.
Know thy enemy
I like your answer the best. With one year's money, he could make a world of difference. I doubt he handed out cassettes on the street to get to this point. What a huxter.

Than not being forced to discuss Glenn Beck here. But the truth is no other show has anything like his view ratings. And no other show is hitting on the issues he tackling.
Glenn's show has a long list of flaws but he has moved closer to the truth. And in this country's MSM that's important right now.
If nobody was watching his show I wouldn't even mention Glenn Beck. But you have to conclude that this guy filled the Mall in D.C. and gave many lower profile organizations media cover when no other network did.
And Glenn Beck is the least important part of this whole thing. The millions of new activists are really what matters here.
Glenn Beck, as annoying as he is, is unmatched for getting people involved.
What's "crap" about that?

How helpful would it be
to have someone as high-profile as Beck grow into a libertarian and explain his thinking, his feelings, and his rationale at every step? Would that be a big help to our movement? Nah, let's keep bashing him. Don't give him any encouragement.
New Hampshire and Ecuador
whatever beck is,
on monday, two members of my family went home with every file, article or book i've gathered over the years. they were/are strict neocons and they like becks show. i'm not going to complain. heck, i might go to thanksgiving this year.
"The two weakest arguments for any issue on the House floor are moral and constitutional"
Ron Paul
Yeh, but he keeps saying
I was the first one who said, or I am the only one who points out, or I was saying this two years ago--his famous time period is two years. He never admits that anyone was awake before him that he degraded before he became so brilliant. So he doesn't wake up and explain each step he is taking, he acts like he has been this way for - two years, which doesn't help because that makes all he said before for the last two years to supposedly make sense and it didn't. He needs to admit, gosh, I wake up more every day and I was a fool 9 months ago.
Have you heard Beck explain
how he's becoming more libertarian the more he digs into history? He said recently he's leaning so far libertarian he's "just about horizontal." He recalled aloud how last year he was ridiculing Ron Paul over his libertarian stances but that "now I feel like going back and revisiting all his positions." Pat Gray has been making the same transformation, Stu not so much yet.
Beck does talk about his "Deep Throat" who feeds him pieces of the puzzle periodically and seems to know "the real score." He also talks at length about the books he's reading that clued him in to the early progressive movement, to Cloward and Piven, etc.
It's a fact of life that talk hosts give little credit to others. They all say "I'm the only one who's covering this" yet, if you listen all day long, each successive talk host often covers the same damned stories almost like they got the talking points memo from the evil right-wing conspiracy's central office. Part of the reason I suppose is that they want to keep their competitors down in ratings. Hannity would love to overtake Limbaugh, Beck would love to overtake Hannity, Savage is bitter and denigrating toward all whose shows rate higher than his. Limbaugh rarely acknowledges other hosts.
Anyway, whether you see it or not, it's plain to me that Beck is making a journey, making it publicly, and is opening his audience to a new type of patriotism that involves reading, getting involved, articulating the philosophy of limited government, and taking responsibility for themselves, their neighbors, and their country during uncertain times. Further, I think he's even driving his competitors ever so slightly our way.
New Hampshire and Ecuador
Good
No, I had not noticed all of this. I listen to him a lot, but haven't caught this. Good to hear. We'll see. If he keeps spouting Palin, he won't have me convinced.
at least we're above that
here.

I agree
Let's chase off every recovering neocon so we can keep our movement nice and small and irrelevant.

I'd take ItsTheEconomyStupid's advice
RE: Michael Moore's Cap[italism a Love Stpory and the vid of the student who gets Moore to agree that it's NOT capitalism but corporatism:
On October 9th, 2009 ItsTheEconomyStupid says:
...the next thing Glenn Beck's people could have some fun with. In fact, if he doesn't show the first 90 seconds of that on his show, why not? The American people really need to hear the difference between true Capitalism with free markets and Corporatism/Cronyism/Fascism. If he or others open up this debate, it's another opening to spread the word through the opening we have been offered by Mr. Moore's lack of understanding, no?
I like this quote. Someone else here uses it as their signature.
"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." - Benito Mussolini.
