surely this should generate some interest? I'm wondering, if you give them an old pure silver dollar, do you just get a FRN dollar's worth of goods, or do they use the price of silver???

If by "old pure silver dollar" you mean a pre-1936 Peace or Morgan 90% silver dollar, you probably get a little over three quarters an oz worth of goods. Of course, the exact figure is likely to vary from vendor to vendor.
