Bad Economy: Military Meets Recruiting Goals for 1st Time in Over 35 Years
Submitted by We the People on Wed, 10/14/2009 - 05:17For the first time in more than 35 years, the U.S. military has met all of its annual recruiting goals, as hundreds of thousands of young people have enlisted despite the near-certainty that they will go to war.
The Pentagon, which made the announcement Tuesday, said the economic downturn and rising joblessness, as well as bonuses and other factors, had led more qualified youths to enlist.

First, this article is flat
First, this article is flat out wrong. They met all of their goals in 2008 as well.
What they don't tell you is that the goals for this year have been reduced significantly from last year, and the total recruitment is down 10% from last year.
You can see the last four years reports here:
2006
2007
2008
2009
(Notice as well that they have abandoned the much easier to read charts from before to a paragraph format. There might be a good reason for this, but it does make it a little harder to compare.)
Here is my post from Tuesday night that has the breakdown for each military branch between 2008 and 2009:

It is not hard to hit all of your goals if you set them low enough (kind of like beating unemployment estimates this month), but that does not mean that recruitment is up. From what I am hearing from the field, that simply is not the case. This is another example of lies from our government to hide or distort what is really going on.
Military recruitment is down 10% from last year in spite of a severe economic downturn and defense spending increased by over 20%. Something doesn't add up here.
an huge economic downturn=
an huge economic downturn= de facto draft.
Well back in 2002, a wicked concoction of No Child Left Behind
and a manipulated economy set to self destruct would naturally lead to increased numbers to the military. Do they know how to tweak this or what?

good... now lets get
good... now lets get freedom to fascism in as many hands as possible.. lets educate them and get them on the side of the Constitution. 2 of my sons friends came home from Iraq. They were kinda gung ho etc.. I introduced them freedom to fascism. They watched it and then I was told that many of their buddies watched it also.. There is nothing wrong with serving.. you just have to have the balls to disobey a bad order.. I told them they swore an oath to the US Constitution.
NOT the commander in cheif idiot.. I also told them if martial law comes.. do not disarm the American people. that would be a big mistake.. I think there maybe more soldiers on our side then you think. its the friggin cops who I worry about.

From a last night post
someone mentioned that the generals are requesting more men over seas but they were told no and given less. I wonder if these are the ones who will be on marshal law duty here in the states?

I think there may be two
I think there may be two sides to this. I'm not sure what the recruitment goals were in the past, but could it be possible that they are lower this year and that's why they were met. I do know for a fact that the military is downsizing. They are looking for reasons to get rid of people. Dunno, just a thought.

They have 30,000 waiting for next year also
Not only have they met the quota for this year, they are well in advance for next year. They loosened the requirements for those with a criminal background, among other things.
Wow! $5 billion recruiting budget.
They must be loaded.
