I know it's been covered many times but, I would like to know where is the best place to purchase silver bullion coins.

Which company has the least charges for such purchases. The timeliest deliveries. Many of us can no longer afford gold purchases (I do have a few from several years ago). I am looking to purchase 100-500 oz at a time. Does that make a difference. Do they require certain amounts as a minimum. What are the normal cut off amounts, etc. It must be coins for they will be the easiest to spend when the time comes.

Don't be a cheap skate and buy bars or rounds... get Silver and Gold Eagles - they are the way to go. After that Canadian Maples. Then Philharmonics.

If you go the cheap route with bars and or rounds prepare to get balked on when it comes time to sell. Dealers will scoff at your hallmarks and underbid you every time.

It's like buying a computer - MAC or PC?
It's like buying a handgun - Smith&Wesson or a Glock?
Get the #1 product - Silver Eagles

You pay for what you get in dealers as well. With the discount brokers you get no educational help whatsoever nor any idea as to when Gold and Silver are overvalued.

best a luck!

Leverage Your Silver Purchases

Because of this program people are averaging far lower cost per ounce on purchases of silver... Take a look... http://cegsilver.com

I'm sorry but

looks like a casino site. I am not looking to gamble what little I have saved. I am just like everyone else. I just want what I want and don't want to be screwed. I mean no disrespect but I just want to purchase a few ounces for purchases in the future. I am not looking for an investment. If nothing comes of my fears then so be it. I am willing to take that chance.

Have you ever tried E-Bay?

I have gotten lucky a few times and have bought 10 ounces BELOW spot price on weeks when silver jumps 1.5-2 dollars. I have made several transactions and they have all been great, fast, and easy. I have never had to wait more than 4 days after payments to get my winning auction(silver). All the sellers had 99.99% positive feedbacks. I highly recommend trying E-Bay first, if you use Pay-Pal.

same here.

Go to Northwest territorial

Go to Northwest territorial mint- they don't charge shipping and have a low premium on their bullion : they mint there own coins but also have silver eagles and others. Check it out:

http://bullion.nwtmint.com/index.php

I was just looking and if you buy 100 it is 18.91 each with no shipping

The no shipping is if you pay by check or money order- looks like if you use a credit card they charge a higher premium and shipping.

Be careful aout buying bullion from NWT

Their bars are gorgeous, but many smaller coin shops/dealers never heard of this mint and they will not even pay spot for these bars when you sell them.

That may be- but I sold some

That may be- but I sold some of my rounds to my local coin shop and it was no problem- so that was my experience
Also- I have never had a shop pay spot for rounds- they always pay less. Is that just my experience or is it common practice??

Silver is at 17.88 and nwt

Silver spot price is 17.88 and nwt mint shows their buy price for silver eagles as 18.37.

http://bullion.nwtmint.com/silver_americaneagle.php

I'm not recommending nwt mint, just using their price as an example of paying above spot.

Just checked and looks like

Just checked and looks like if you use a credit card it is $20.10 each and that includes shipping.
Actually, looks like it's cheaper a APMEX right now if you are using a credit card- 75 one ounce rounds is $1499.65 as opposed to NWmint 75 rounds- $1507.50- this is using a credit card

Not using a credit card APMEX 75 rounds- $1456.70
NWMint- $1438.50

local is best,

higher premium but cash and carry.

Otherwise, Apmex has worked great for me.

Thank you Tony.

How do you know what is too much as a higher premium.

Know Your Local Coin Shops

Visit two or more of your local coin shops.

Google works great but you can also use this site...
http://www.coininfo.com/coin_dealers/

just compare

online dealer premiums, like apmex. use this as your baseline. then if looking for local, their premium will most likely be more. find someone your comfortable with. Ask what their buy back price is today for 1 oz american eagle. then go online to a dealer to find out what their buy back price is.

Camino is good

Camino coin is excellent. They have great, professional service, they ship insured & registered.

Kitco is quite the opposite. I purchased some coins from them and they came with a Delivery Confirmation form only and not insured. Also, they're in Canada and there's just "something about" Canadians.....they're weird.

Kitco is perfect for getting the price of metals. Other than that- forget it.
That's just my experience.

A-Mark.com has a great site for getting prices too. Many companies base their metal prices on A-mark's price.

GoldSilver.com premiums are much too high.

The bottom line is this- buy local. Walk in with cash and walk out with coins. You don't have to worry about your funds being "lost" or waiting to clear. There are a 1000 ways for a company to delay your shipment....and they're all to their advantage, not yours.

Wiring money is another thing that bothers me. I know of examples in the 70's where people got ripped off by gold companies taking their money and then going out of.....town.

Many folks on here have certain companies they like best...it's often a matter of taste and how well you get along with the company.

I'm not interested in doing business with some slick, fast talking hack.

Thank you RS but, what do you mean

walk in and walk out. Do you mean pawn shops or what. I don't know of anyone or company local. Maybe Baton Rouge. If you go this route how to you show this is what you are willing to pay etc..I can get the latest bullion price from online. Should I bring this info with me?

Walk in....walk out.

Simple- just like any other purchase at a store.

1. You walk into the store with cash.
2. You tell the man/woman what you want to buy.
3. You pay them cash for it.
4. They give you the metal(s).
5. You walk out the door.

I'm speaking only about local coin shops that deal specifically in au/ag coins or numismatic coins and not any other kind of business.

You're going to pay the metal(s) dealer the price he is selling his stuff for. Maybe you can find some "let's make a deal" types but I doubt it.

If you don't know any local companies you'll have to travel or buy from one of the companies folks are mentioning here. As I said, I'm concerned about letting a company hold my money in any form. If I wire them the funds they may skip town. I'm taking NO chances. I've never been burned and have no intention of letting it happen.

My opinion is similar to one of those above- buy au/ag from a recognized mint. NWT? Who the heck are they? Let's see you try to sell some of their stuff to some shyster in the future! I can hear it now, "I'll give you less for your silver coin there as I've never heard of NWT". I'm just using them as an example.

I heard someone once say they only buy US Eagles. PERIOD. No one argues with authenticity with the US mint.

Local shops have overhead

Local shops have overhead such as rent, personnel, phone. Expect to pay more than online. Some benefits are paying anonymously with cash and walking out the door with the metal in your hands.

If you want to pay less, then send money somewhere and wait for it to (probably) arrive.
