Trey Grayson says he raised more than $640,000
Secretary of State Trey Grayson’s campaign announced Thursday that he raised $642,857 during the third quarter, bringing his overall total to $1.24 million for next year’s Republican primary for the U.S. Senate.
That total puts him slightly ahead of Bowling Green ophthalmologist Rand Paul, the other major candidate in the GOP race.
Attorney General Jack Conway, who is seeking the Democratic nomination, is expected to report his total later Thursday.
This is the deadline for campaigns to report to the Federal Election Commission how much they have raised and spent in the third quarter of 2009, which ended Sept. 30.
Grayson, who appears to have the support of the Republican establishment, was thought to be the early leader for the GOP nomination. But Paul has posted fundraising totals during the first two quarters that suggest he will be tough competition.
According to Paul’s third quarter report, he raised slightly more than $1 million for the quarter and $1.12 million overall for the campaign. He reported having $912,416 on hand at the end of the quarter...

now lets get Kokesh and RJ
now lets get Kokesh and RJ Harris funded!
Prediction ...
Bunning will either endorse Rand or stay on the sidelines.
He will not endorse Grayson.

Okay...
I just went & registered so I could add a comment. If you're not going to do the same, then at least click the "recommend" on mine!!
But, it felt really good being the first to write. It would be such a burn to fill that comment section with remarks from us. We want to make Grayson shake in his boots. He has no idea he's running against a man who is supported by the world.
Rand Paul...
Pro-Freedom candidate
Trey Grayson = Anti-Freedom candidate
That's all the information that needs to be assimilated. Nothing else should matter.
Why are there no comments
at the story site? Go shake 'em up. Let KY know the whole country is watching the race & supporting Rand Paul!
This is laughable
Rand is going to win the nomination by a landslide. Financially speaking, it's not even going to be close. And I've seen Grayson speak - he's clueless.
Trey...
is most definitely plugged into every single county executive GOP committee throughout the state of Kentucky. If he doesn't already know the GOP Party chairpeople in his state I'll bet arrangements are underway for some facetime in the county seats. I just hope that Rand is getting out there and doing the same and doing it before Trey does.
county GOP
"I just hope that Rand is getting out there and doing the same and doing it before Trey does."
Pound the ground and give the county chairs as much face-time as they want. This is where it happens.

I think it's even worse for
I think it's even worse for Grayson than some have commented about here. First, he's running out of fat cats and bundlers ... the machine of lobbyists buddies is maxing out. 2,200 donors vs. Rand's 14,000. He's all but unknown outside the state of KY. I think the plan was for the Karl Rove machine to trot their pony out to all the big GOP fundraising shindigs around the country, but you're not a top tier for that role if you're neck and neck with a guy named Paul.
In short, the Grayson camp never really seemed to have a "Plan B". Rand Paul's staggering rise was not in their playbook. Plan A was to be annointed by the GOP fathers and lobbyists and brown everyone else out assuring no competition, talk about nothing but Kentucky this and that for 9 months, and then trot out to the wine and cheese crowd for more money coasting to the general.
If that's still the plan, Grayson might as well pull a Romney and suspend his campaign.
MY lord what's with the title... shouldn't it be:
RHINO: Grayson says he raised more than $640,000

Rand Paul needs to win this thing
He's within striking distance, and closing in on the lead.
One more Money Bomb ought to do it!!
He also needs to be aggressive seeking public debates and finding ways on getting News Coverage.
One more big moneybomb might give him the lead
in money raised and cash on hand but there's a long way to go before the primary election not to mention the general election.
New Hampshire and Ecuador
With Rand proving to be a formidable foe...
...as evidenced in polls and fund raising, I have a feeling we'll be seeing the establishment pull out all the stops to make sure their man, Trey, gets in.
Rhino, on your "Phantom number" thread, you made this statement:
"I personally know the big donors in the Republican party. They could care less who wins and when they realize that Rand has a chance, he will get just as much as Trey gets from them."
I find it hard to believe the "establishment" would ever see Rand Paul as one of their own, let alone support him.
Isn't he an antitheses of what they represent?
Also, I know you are familiar with Trey and his dad. Do you think the Grayson's will give up power easily?
He will fight to the end, but he will accept defeat.
When the polls get within the margin of error ...
The whales will start throwing cash at Rand in case he wins.
Mark my words.
We just need to get him there.
Once that happens, he will be able spend as much as Trey does.
It will come down to campaigning if it is close.
And Trey will go negative if he has to.
I hope Rand and his campaign is up to the challenge.

I don't think the fight is Trey's as much as it is...
..."the establishment's".
That was pretty much evidenced by the $500/plate dinner 23 senators hosted for Trey.
But I really don't see Trey as separate from "the establishment". Regardless, if the family has generations of power, and history of corruption, I don't think power will be given up easily...and I'm wary of what the "fight" will consist of.
Rhino, are the people you know in the big donor circle and banking circle aware that you support Ron and Rand Paul?
Also, does your grandma know?...and if so, what is her opinion?
I respectfully disagree
they want to control the opposition, and the group rand has been running in is daring somebody to try and control them. Not exactly where they usually throw money.
We shall see ...
If we get him within the margin of error.
