NY Times A1: U.S. Finds Iran Halted Its Nuclear Arms Effort in 2003
WASHINGTON, Dec. 3 — A new assessment by American intelligence agencies released Monday concludes that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 and that the program remains frozen, contradicting a judgment two years ago that Tehran was working relentlessly toward building a nuclear bomb.
The conclusions of the new assessment are likely to reshape the final year of the Bush administration, which has made halting Iran’s nuclear program a cornerstone of its foreign policy.
The assessment, a National Intelligence Estimate that represents the consensus view of all 16 American spy agencies, states that Tehran is likely to keep its options open with respect to building a weapon, but that intelligence agencies “do not know whether it currently intends to develop nuclear weapons.”

WOWW!! What strong words from Keith Olbermann (MSNBC)

Big shock
Why is the media acting like this information is new. The IAEA has been saying that Iran was not pursuing nuclear weapons for how long. This is so ridiculous.
wait!
the Good Dr. had a clue?
...you don't say.....
we are all SO shocked.
Long Live the R3VO_|UTION

This is good news, but we need to focus on delegates
Without foreign-fear-mongering, neo-cons are just like Democrats: Overspenders and overtaxers.
But we have already won the moral grounds as evidenced by all the polls (online and straw) that we have won. The Liberty message works.
We have also won the donation front.
Now we have to focus on two fronts:
1. Keep doing what we are doing: donating and spreading the message...primarily in NH, IA, etc.
2. Delegates. We MUST have MANY more delegates to get a shot at this.
Look at this site to get a perspective: http://www.usaelectionpolls.com/2008/state-polls.html
We have barely begun the delegate battle...and we are entering pretty late. Please make this very high priority!
You'll gonna love this one
Bush now claims that Iran is a threat just because they know how to build a nuclear weapon. And how do we know that they know? Becasue Bill Clinton gave Iran the blueprints for building a nuclear weapon:
http://www.nationalledger.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi?a...
I remember when this came out and Jon Stewart then did a great Daily Show hit piece on this news. If anyone can track down a link to this its well worth it.
It's Like
Anyone who knows how to make a spear or shoot a rifle should be killed for attempted murder.
"ALL 16 American spy agencies"????
"All 16 American spy agencies"? What are they talking about? Can anyone list the 16 spy agencies they are referring to?
Not out of the woods yet
I understand the political mileage that can be and should be gained by this.
But don't believe for a second that we are out of the woods yet.
The neocons can still stage a false-flag operation either in the US or in the Persian Gulf, then blame Iran, and what we'll have next is a full-blown Middle East war. Then the neocons will say, "We told you so!"
For those who don't believe in false-flag operations, google the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty, the Gulf of Tonkin "incident" that led to the Vietnam War, and Operation Gladio (http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/december2007/120407_com...)--among many examples of these "false-flag" operations.
Between now and, hopefully, the inauguration of President Ron Paul, is a very dangerous time period.
I read an article with Bush
I read an article with Bush "assessment" of the NIE on my lunch break yesterday, and was so upset at his bull headedness and out right absurdness to not say he was wrong. A reasonable president would at the least say "this report is good news; we can now give diplomacy more time." Driving home from work, NPR covered the story and played a sound bite of Bush's comments, I felt physically sick to my stomach listening and had to turn it off. Bush now out does himself weekly.
Even if Iran has Nukes
President Bush is not competent enough to handle the situation. Everyone knows he wants to nuke Tehran regardles of the justifications, or lack thereof. Bush is a liar and cannot be trusted.
This is only the beginning
This latest news just shows how pathetic the Bush administration really is. I believe this will kill the neocon agenda dead in the water. It's not like we didn't already have a credibility problem with this administration, but now there is no gray area for anyone with half a brain. Bush obviously knew this information before he came out with that commet about WWIII. What we are seeing now by Bush's comments on this story are lies and manipulation for damage control and to cover up the previous lies. Bush is good at playing the blame game and never taking responsiblity. If it gets out of hand, he will just blame the CIA again; a subversive evil organization responsible for overthrowing governments, political assassinations, massive drug running, money laundering, experimentation on U.S. citizens, UFO cover up and many other clandestine operations. If Ron Paul got rid of this unconstitutional organization, I think the world would cheer and maybe we could regain some respect from the rest of the world after the disastrous Bush administration. I heard this news about Iran was actually delayed by a week or two, so that Bush could kick this last minute Middle East peace garbage into high gear. I guess he's scrounging for some kind of a legacy. Although, I think he will go down as the worst president in American history. This news also makes Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Riley look stupid. Of course, we already they were, but this may bring a few more people to look at Ron Paul. These talking heads will be back peddeling now.
The Ron Paul revolution is coming through your town. Either jump on board or get the hell out of the way!!!
The Ron Paul revolution is coming through your town. Either jump on board or get the hell out of the way!!!
Ron Paul predicted this.
Googling Ron Paul and Iran reveals many papers supporting his position, but I noticed that he actually predicted in a Rolling Stone interview on the 15th of last month, (November) that Bush was trying to find an excuse to attack them before this information was published. The way this news story could help him goes beyond proving that he is the coolest head of the current presidential candidates, he has a real understanding of what's going on, and isn't afraid to show it by making bold statements.

This "new" assessment by the NIE
was covered here in Austria in the main evening news.
The political analyst of the ORF (Austrian Broadcasting Corp.) in Washington put it this way:
Quite big news - but nothing new.
It just depends what the NIE makes public and when they make it public.
This is a show of force of the moderates within the spy agencies.
And a shot across the bows for the neocon warmongers.
The agencies dont want to "get laid" again by this administration.
What a surprise...
We've been lied to yet again. And the administration says this proves they've been right all along! Their attempts to brainwash us about Iran have failed, and GWB is quivering in his boots!
Ron Paul 2008!

Iran WCU4Paul/ Manystrom
Manystrom: We need to get ahold of the RP HQ to get something going on this subject. WCU4Paul put together a nice summary of this situation and some ideas have already been posted. Is there some way of consolidating these postings and jumping on it right away. Handled properly it could propel Dr. Paul in both Iowa and New Hampshire with as suggested a meeting with the National Press Club or possibly some campaign video collages showing the War positions of Dr. Paul's opponents and several shots of Dr. Paul stating his positions on diplomacy versus guns and boots on the ground.
John McCain was just given the endorsement of the New Hampshire Union Leader and he has been a very big advocate of bombs, bombs and boots on the ground, from Bosnia thru Iraq. We need to expose these war mongers.
