If you have the time, here is an excellent 1 hour interview with John Mackey. About 3/4 of the way through, he wishes Ron Paul had been nominated and says who he voted for.
The interview ranges from free market healthcare, economics and "conscious capitalism," to humane treatment of pigs (sounds like he read Animal Farm, too). I think he correctly states the problem and the solution for free market capitalism.

Thank you for posting this video.
Mackey is a wonderful spokesperson for "conscious capitalism." He truly lives his philosophy and is a great example of liberated creativity.
Interesting
The CEO of my company - whom is considered a progressive and was very excited about Obama - was asked about his thoughts on health care. In his answer he specifically mentioned John Mackeys Oped in the NYT and stated that he was one of the more progressive CEO's around. It caught me by suprise, and I was suprised at how many of my liberal leaning co-workers were now interested in the article. I took the opportunity to impress upon them the thoughts and idea's behind that type of philosophy and pointed out all the options that it would offer (no restrictions on alternative medicine's for preventative care mainly). It was very interesting how open minded they were after it was reccommended by a 'progressive' voice.
I think there are so many libertarian types out their, but they don't have an understanding of the core philosophies of it.
I like John Mackey.
I like John Mackey. Hopefully he'll reconsider his blurb about laws protecting pigs. The fact that he himself, as well as Whole Foods' target customer, may well be at a point where price of food does not matter, does not mean everyone is in that position. Much better to give those who don't mind paying for more ethical pig care the opportunity to do so through programs like his 5 star rating for animal husbandry practiced by his suppliers, while allowing those still too poor (or too unconcerned) to get their pigs on the cheap.
Love Whole Foods...
video sent out on mail list.

Whole Foods
is a perfect example of a free markets.
This guy is awsome. Send this video to all the liberals you know
I think someone like this could explain our movement to the liberals better than anyone else. Send this video to all the liberals you know. It will definitely recruit quite a few. He answered the questions that I have always gotten tongue twisted on when it comes to the free market quite wonderfully.
I shop at Whole Foods a lot...
and now even more since I read John Mackey's articles. It is no more or less expensive than any other health food store: some things are cheaper, some not. But the quality is superb and they have a great return policy.
I sent an email through the WF website congratulating John Mackey on his support of Ron Paul. Everyone on DP should do that!!

If he's one of us...
then he'll drop his prices. great store but that stuff is so expensive!
"Get to the choppa!"
prices
Food needs to be a more important part of peoples budget. We need to pay the organic farmers well for their work. We also need to pay everyone else involved in the process as well. Food should make more money. Farming should be more important than acting, sports, cars, real-estate... or any of the other nonsense we spend money on.
I agree
but who wants to spend $4 dollars for an apple?
"Get to the choppa!"
not true at all. whole foods
not true at all. whole foods is way cheaper than most all other health food stores. all of the stores here in asheville, nc are far more expensive than whole foods. i wish we had one here to show them all a thing or two.
not really
a lot of the stuff is on par with normal grocery stores. some of the produce is cheaper, even. the only real difference is that whole foods carries lots of "specialty" stuff -- meats from animals raised in a certain way, rare fruits and vegetables, etc. that's where you end up spending a ton of money.
Enough people buy his
Enough people buy his company's goods. He does not need to lower prices.
It's right at 45:00 til 46
It's right at 45:00 til 46 minutes. Anyway, that takes guts to tell everyone who you voted for especially a less known candidate. Too bad he kind of said "Ron Paul" sheepishly instead of confidently.

Decided to meet someone over coffee there
instead of meeting at Starbucks...just to support the owner of Whole Foods in my own small way...they have a nice little sit down area, at least in the one in Palm Beach Gardens.

The Whole Foods in Palm
The Whole Foods in Palm Beach Gardens sells raw milk. That's the only place I've seen it. It's for "pets only" of course ;)
wish we had one
here
Been shopping at his company
Ever since I found out he offered up an alternative Health plan.
And the Obama ring kissers went Berserk.
I don't spend a lot each trip. But I've got to tell you, his employees are so friendly and helpful.

Half way there,,,,
but He voted for Bob Barr..Oooooooooo :0
It's a start.
So?
I voted for the LP as a protest vote - not because I thought Barr would be a great president ( or get more than 1% of the vote) It's more than a start.

Sorry...
I stand corrected.
I just don't like Bob Barr.
Cheers!
WOW, RP people never stop impressing
He is very articulate and interesting to listen to. Explains things very well.
He should be encouraged to join Ron Paul at the Next Ron Paul Convention at the very least. May be even run as Vice President for Ron Paul.
Thanks for finding this!
Excellent post to send on to friends of Whole Foods who may not yet be on the liberty train!
Freedom Brings Us Together
I've had to respond to demands for mandatory labeling from people like him (I'm in California), in order to defend small organic farmers who can't afford to sell organic if they have to get government approval, first.
Here's a guy who learned about the consequences of government involvement through his experiences, not just by reading books (though he did that, too).

this is good to hear--
it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--
I shop there when I am able to get to a city where there is a store--
and I buy things there I can't get anywhere else or things that are 'on sale'--
Since hearing about his feelings about health care--
I have wanted to shop there more--
wish I could . . .
