To bad they couldn't get more people by having this indoors :(
Were they in the middle of the road or a parking lot? I second some of the concerns about shooting himself in the foot. I like Ron's approach to earmarks personally and don't find it all too controversial. Rand sorta expressed a similar sentiment by saying that he was interested in bringing
money taken from federal taxes back to the State without exceeding their fare share. That's an honest stance. He's going to have a terrible fight on his hands with term limits, a budget rule, and finding someone to succeed him who is just as responsible. Still avoiding the national defense issue (one of the only roles of government). He needs to start putting this in his speeches or have a plan to before the opposition calls him out on it and finds a way to spin it against him. That $400 a gallon gas might be the shoe in.

Go Rand Go
If they want MY vote, they need to tell me why they are better than the other guy, not why the other guy is worse than they are.

Honest question
Is he shooting himself in the foot with his earmark stance? I agree the spending shouldn't be appropriated in the first place, but as long its going to be spent either way, might as well earmark it for your constituents as Ron does in his district, right? or no?
Does Rand disagree with his father's stance?
Is there something about the senate that changes this issue as opposed to the house? or Kentucky as opposed to Texas? His anti-earmark remarks sound like the usual Republican talking points.
Not a terribly big deal, but still made me curious, your thoughts are welcome
It is a valid concern, but I
It is a valid concern, but I think people will understand that it takes a lot of courage to tell them he will not give them projects and will distinguish him even more as something different from what people are used to; It underlines his point of being a principled and honest leader. Furthermore he only stated that he would not allocate projects by preference and he clearly described that he wants the money to come back to Kentucky but to be distributed through the state legislature, not by him. If you watch his half hour interview with that local Kentucky TV station he further expounds on this view. Lastly, in that interview, he goes on to explain the impact of inflation and even if he were to allocate projects people will end up paying in the long term.
