Depending on your perspective, the Oath Keepers are either strident defenders of liberty or dangerous peddlers of paranoia.
In the age of town halls, talk radio and tea parties, middle ground of opinion is hard to find.
Launched in March by Las Vegan Stewart Rhodes, Oath Keepers bills itself as a nonpartisan group of current and retired law enforcement and military personnel who vow to fulfill their oaths to the Constitution.
The Patriot movement, so named because its adherents believe the federal government has stepped on the constitutional ideals of the American Revolution, gained traction in the 1990s and has been closely linked to anti-government militia and white supremacist movements.
The movement is blamed for spawning Timothy McVeigh, who bombed a federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995, killing 168 people.
"I'm not accusing Stewart Rhodes or any member of his group of being Timothy McVeigh or a future Timothy McVeigh," law center spokesman Mark Potok said. "But these kinds of conspiracy theories are what drive a small number of people to criminal violence. ... What's troubling about Oath Keepers is the idea that men and women armed and ordered to protect the public in this country are clearly being drawn into a world of false conspiracy theory
It's the "cross-pollinating" of extremist groups -- some racist, some not -- that is of concern, Potok said. As evidence that the danger is real, he points to several recent murders committed by men with anti-government or racist views.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security reached a similar conclusion in a report earlier this year about the rise of right-wing extremism. The report said the nation's economic downturn and Obama's race are "unique drivers for right-wing radicalization and recruitment."
The homeland security report added that "disgruntled military veterans" might be vulnerable to recruitment by right-wing extremist groups.

Note about nizkor website. I cringe at the word antisemitism as it has of late too often been used as a club or a wheedle to sway public opinion and scare others. It is never effective on those obsessed by their hate and it insults the intelligence of the rest of the audience when used that way.

Oath Keepers must stand up and defend vigorously those who suffer and are persecuted by the government when they uphold their oaths. I will be watching closely for the first cases. I hope to hear unity and a demand for justice when the time comes.

What have you done to uphold the Constitution. I
want specifics. Give it over brother. Why must YOU wait to have the Oathkeepers to vigorously defend YOUR natural born rights or anyone else's. Why must you wait as a coward for someone else to do what you think you can!. What Oath have YOU taken! I personally have my doubts. Are you so scared as to not stand up for yourself and those poor individuals that are persecuted by the government (your words). Or, are you the Government?. Do you hide behind a veil to not show your true nature. Are you such a scared individual you cannot stand for yourself.

I sent a small article to my local newspaper, which is read in 3 to 4 surrounding counties here in Pennsylvania, asking for current/ex-military, police officers, peace officers and concerned citizens to check out the site... Mike, because of people that
are just like me. Everyday we spend time talking to our Military/Law Enforcement brothers and sisters. Yes there are some individuals (agencies) looking to derail this movement but, (Not a Prayer), just like they tried and succeeded in the RP election. The difference is, ex/current, Military and Law enforcement are wanting the choice and so far choose Liberty. The government is scared and have every right to be. They don't know where we are coming from. The have no clue what living by the Constitution means. We want zero violence but, we just remember the OATH! Just like my post (LA Group) to purchase a Sheriff Mack book for every Sheriff in Louisiana. This is going to become reality!
What you must remember is that there are more Veterans than current standing military. Current military are the sons and daughters of us. This is what scares them. It seems that individuals that served tend to pass that along to their children, This is not a blaming thing. This is just a fact of life. The more we talk to our children about the OATH the more they understand.
If everyone would just go to the Oathkeeper site and see the LOVE of this country and the LOVE of the Constitution. It is unbelievable. My brothers and sisters are very special, for it is not political. You can also join as a citizen. Tell the powers that be that you will not stand for anything but the Constitution! It is ALL about the Constitution.

Michael, I would like you to personally contact,
Stewart Rhodes and interview him. Everyone here on the DP would gain much insight. I would be pleased to arrange that if necessary. The Oathkeeper movement may be the last step between pure government control and NOT!
You must remember that most of the currently serving military are our sons and daughters. We have taught them the importance of the Oath. They will not forsake us. That is what scares the government. They should be scared. Oathkeepers is a non violent organization. We want our government officials to live by their oath. I would ask that everyone goes to the Oathkeeper site and see the Love of this country. See the Love of the Constitution. You can join as a citizen Oathkeeper! This is what scares the Government.
There will come a time when enough of the people of this country will declare that government has gone too far. That is when Oathkeepers comes into play. We may be the only group/institution that may save this country. The Government does not RULE the Military. Nor do they rule our Children and Brothers in Arms. The Constitution Does.
