NYC Firearms Laws Regarding "Assault Weapons" and "High Capacity Magazines"
Unfortunately in the NYC area you need to be 21 and have every type of weapon registered, rifle, shotgun, and pistols. You need permits for all as well ... even if you don't live in New York City ... the city is considered all 5 of the boroughs that make up NYC .. not the actual city of Manhattan.
I was trying to determine the meaning of this part of the law in regard to what is an assault weapon.
"Large capacity ammunition feeding device" means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device, manufactured after September 13, 1994, that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than ten rounds of ammunition; provided, however, that such term does not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition."
My question was in regard to the Remginton 597 Magnum which is a .22 winmag rimfire rifle. They make banana clips similar to the AK clips which have a 30 round capacity. The clause at the end however, seems to exclude .22 caliber rifles? Do you understand from this, that if I wanted I could acquire 30 round magazines as long as they are .22 caliber?
These firearm laws are getting really retarded. According to them, almost everything is an assault weapon.

that is ridiculous ... i
that is ridiculous ... i hate new york ... either way ... i'm stuck here for a while .. so i mind as well just got with the .22 winmag right? more powerful than the regular .22 right?
Is a .22 your only choice? What is it to be used for?

very unpopularly not that i
very unpopularly not that i care about that ... guns are used for defense against tyrannical government .. i have no interest in running around outside shooting like a lunatic ... some light weight .. efficient and enough power and range that does not make too much noise
guns are for defending against government tyranny .. although i don't think i need to explain myself on this forum =]
I had an employee who got shot in the head with a 22
at point-blank range. His dreadlocks stopped the bullet and he only got a little headache. Unless the tyrants are chipmunks, I wouldn't be counting on my 22 for much.

lol .. so i guess the only
lol .. so i guess the only thing i can go with is an older 30-06 with a 7 round magazine
it's not very lightweight
it's not very lightweight tho.. and the ergonomics piss me off .. the mag latch is in a retarded position
Are shotguns legal?

and what do you think is
and what do you think is better? a .22 wmr or a .22LR if I can have have 30 rounds .22LR and only 8 or 9 .22WMR
Even those have to be registered right?
Reason I was asking is, as long as they know what you got, then go up in caliber. You should be able to find an old Russian or Chinese sks with a fixed 10 rd magazine.
I am assuming you want the rifle for protection. While a .22 LR isn't like a vitamin C tablet, it leaves a little to be desired for a protection firearm. That said if you put the shot in the right place you won't need but one shot.

If you live in NY
you can't have a 30 round 22LR mag either.
NO detachable mags over 10 rounds of any kind PERIOD.
Unless you have ironclad PROOF that it was manufactured prior to 1994, and I GUARANTEE that you'll be going down to Po-leece HQ to prove it.
Do you know if they make any
Do you know if they make any magazines with higher capacity for .22 wmr
I've only seen the 8rd mags.
A quick google search didn't turn up any hi-caps that I saw.
NO hi-cap detachable mags allowed.
The "tubular" device is a permanent part of the rifle, and not detachable.
The language was put in there to exclude certain(mostly old) hunting .22 rifles that have a permanently attached tubular magazine under the barrel, like a pump shotgun has.
If you have a detachable magazine that holds more than 10 rounds, it's a violation.
Unless you have ironclad documented proof carried with you that can prove to any officer questioning you that the magazine was made prior to 1994
And it had better be very good documentation.
And prepare to go downtown with him anyway.
I don't know if the 597 was made prior to 1994, so there may be no magazines ever made prior to 1994 that will work in it anyway.
Sue NYC for violation of 2nd amendment
and state constitution, if clause appears in NY state constitution.
What you need is county sheriff who's an oathkeeper
These laws are unconstitutional. The sheriff responsible for NYC and Albany should arrest those responsible for passing these laws; or, at least, refuse to enforce them.
yeah guys .. but what the
yeah guys .. but what the hell is an attached tubular device?
the mags i am talking about are these

They are apparently spring and pressure operated .. i don't know what the hell a tubular device is
See the Model 60 link below
Also those mags are for .22LR different from .22 win mag.

You'd need to see if they specifically name a .22 variant
If not then you should be fine. But, there are a bunch of .22 calibers. The winmag is the largest rim fire I think in .22.

I am glad I don't live there because I would be a criminal.

"attached tubular device"
That exception does not exclude all .22 mags, just the tubular attached variety. I'd say any detachable mag over 10 rounds is banned.
reading it again I think your right, that is a some bs law

tubes
My grandad had two .22 cal rifles that have tubes that you feed the bullets into. They lay in a line in the tube, more than 10 of them. Semiautomatic. I think that they would be excluded.
I don't think a magazine that lays them in stacks would qualify as "a tube." But, then again, I am not the government.
