A look at H.R. 2454 (Cap and Trade Bill)

Wow! Homeowners take note and tell your friends and relatives who are homeowners!!

Beginning 1 year after enactment of the Act, you won't be able to sell your home unless you retrofit it to comply with the energy and water efficiency standards of this Act.

H.R. 2454, the "Cap & Trade" bill passed by the House of Representatives, if also passed by the Senate, will be the largest tax increase any of us has ever experienced. The Congressional Budget Office (supposedly non-partisan) estimates that in just a few years the average cost to every family of four will be $6,800 per year. No one is excluded. However, once the lower classes feel the pinch in their wallets, these voters may get a tax refund (even if they pay no taxes at all) to offset this new cost. Thus you, Mr. and Mrs. Middle Class America , will have to pay even more since additional tax dollars will be needed to bail out everyone else.

Where does Congress claim it has authority to even address how homes are built?

Even if it doesn't pass, I don't think the present government will make it through this time next year. I will be very surprised if it does.

Main street America is fast running out of patience.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

I'm just itching for some blockhead in government to try to explain how ObamaCare, Bailouts, Tarp, Patriot Act, FEMA camps, Military Commissions Act, Cap & Trade, etc. are NOT "a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object"

I hadn't heard about it before - I couldn't believe it! My husband and I just closed on a house and will be moved in by the end of this month. Our new home is brand new and seems very energy efficient, though, so I'm hoping for the best. We'll probably be there for the rest of our days anyway, so I'm hoping we don't have to worry about it. I'm so excited about the house right now that I refuse to worry too much! We plan on raising a few head of cattle and growing a decent sized garden there next year. I'll be learning how to can and we'll be working on becoming more self sufficient; mostly thanks to all the information we've learned from you all. I really want to thank everybody for all that we've learned here at the DP, and I hope this information can help some of you. :)

All this will do is boost foreclosures even higher. Then, will the bank be held responsible for the retrofit before they resell it? Homes will become toxic.

My aunt was telling me about this when it was covered on the local news after the House passed the Bill. I can't believe the restrictions that they want to put on people in order to sell their houses. Think that will cause home prices to go higher or lower?

And what's with the $6,800 per family? Will that be added on to energy bills? How will the gov be charging for this?
