Well, about 150 kids in the elementary school got the shot form of the vaccine. I do not know about the middle and high schools or the general community. I personally know of 1 girl in the middle school that got the live mist. No major reactions today. Will keep you posted on anything important. Thanks again for all your comments!

I am just going to say up front that "Yes, I am a newbie". My husband has been a member of this sight for 2 years now so I keep up on info thru him (GregMooreJr) but now I need your help.
Our school is scheduled to administer voluntary H1N1 vaccines all day tomorrow to students and five other priority groups established by the Health Department (pregnant women, heath care workers, people who care for or live with children under 6 mos., people ages 24-64 with health problems, and everyone else between the ages of 6 months - 24 years). They are using the multi-dose vials and live nasal mist.
I have written a letter to the editor of our local paper using the information that I found on the internet from Novartis regarding the multi-dose vials. They called all parents yesterday saying that the live nasal mist is now available and will be also be given.
To my understanding, even though my children will not be vaccinated, they can still get sick from a child that has received the live vaccine. We have decided that our kids will not be attending school tomorrow.
Does anyone know what this mass vaccination will do (if anything) to our small community of 3,000 people? Are we all going to get sick?

My sons are grown
but when they were young, if I noticed they were coming down with something I kept them home right away to rest and they recovered much faster than sending them to school. Some parents don't keep them home unless it is real bad but what I found is if I kept them home in the beginning they never got it bad. Rest, healthy food, soups, fluids, wash hands, cover face when coughing, these old time favorites are still relevant today. Good luck and don't be afraid it will be ok. Your doing a fine job, momma relax.

Yes unvaccinated people can get swine flu or and other virus from people being vaccinated. Keep in mind they are actually getting the virus injected into them and do in fact put other people at risk for they now carry the live virus. I would keep your kids home for a whole week if I were you.

Funny though both my kids have been home all week with the swine flu. I guess I get a pass. It really hasn't been that bad. I hate seeing my kids sick but they do take better naps.lol Chicken soup, Hugs, and movies on the couch got us through it.

The good news is that they have the best kind of immunity to the H1N1 virus now.
I have heard that being sick with the H1N1 is not as bad as getting the actual seasonal flu. Is that what you saw in your children?

It wasn't as bad as the flu-flu,
But what was weird is every and I mean every time my kids get sick I catch it to. But my husband and I haven't even had a fever. I just found that strange. Hope all goes well.

I feel for you
I went through this dilemma last week (it was just the flu mist). I kept my daughter home that day. She's wild about school, so in the end I didn't keep her home the next day. Perhaps it's possible to catch it from the live-mist vaccinated kids, or perhaps they'll all come down with the flu because of the mist - either way, one risks exposure. At some point I've just got to take the leap of faith and trust in God. In the end, we don't have total control - at least that has been my experience. And I don't want to live a life of fear - do you know what I mean? It's a struggle though.
By the way, can you believe we're having to deal with this AT SCHOOL!?!
What you should do is
go get a 25 o h D blood test to see how deficient you all are in your D3 levels and then load up so that your levels are around 60. Build up your immune system and do not trust the people who brought you the swine flu to treat you against it. A,D3, C and iodine levels should be the most important things for you to focus on.

others exposed to vaccinated people can get sick, what is the point of vaccinating? To spread the virus? That is dumb. Where did you get that information? If that is true I would keep my kids and my entire family away from antone who has been vaccinated for more than a day. More like a few weeks or until I saw what happens in the area.

compromised individuals for a few days (a nurse on here said they shed virus for 7 days) doesn't it make you wonder if this doesn't mean a healthy person could then catch it from shed virus?
And if it is dangerous for immune compromised individuals to catch this flu, don't you wonder how you could be SURE you weren't coming in contact with one if you are out in public at all? They don't wear a sign around their neck saying " I am an immune compromised individual--please stay away from me!"

21 Days is what I read
21 days is what I read too, but 4 weeks... This is just unbelievable. I still do not know if we are all going to get sick, but I'm guessing we are.
UPDATE...
Went to soccer this morning and got to hear about the immunization clinic at the school last night. I guess hundreds of people were lined up for a mile and in the end, the Health Department had to turn people away because they ran out. OMG!
Then to see Obama's emergency declaration about the H1N1 flu today... these people are now in a PANIC because they didn't get their shot. If only they took the time to find out that the doctors and hospitals in our area are not even testing anymore. They haven't been testing for a while now. They are just assuming that all flu symptoms are the H1N1 strain! That's really scientific!
Guess the fear is working in this little town... pray for us all.
