U.N. Investigates US Affordable Housing for human rights violations
Democracy Now! UN Investigator Probes US Housing Crisis

The New York Times: The United Nations has assigned an official, “a special rapporteur on the right to adequate housing,” to check the city’s affordable housing. The rapporteur, Raquel Rolnik, is to tour the city for the next three days with housing advocates and city officials to “hear the voices of those who are suffering on the ground,” she said. http://www.breitbart.tv/united-nations-investigator-launches...
Affordable? U.N. Puts a Questioning Eye on New York’s Housing
http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/10/23/special-rapport...
Everybody knows New York City is an expensive place to live. But the United Nations wants to know if affordable housing is so tough to come by that it actually violates human rights.
She told them: “I am representing the right of adequate housing as a human right.”

Huh?
What the heck is the U.N. ... Who the he** allowed...
OMG!
Agenda 21 in our ...
faces!! Shotgun blasts to the left of us and shotgun blasts to the right of us--when will the people wake up?? They're firing at us w/both barrels-Obama and his Swine Flu emergency and Obama's U.N. at people's doorsteps. This is very serious!!!
"affordable housing" is a ply
Government has done so much to make housing unaffordable. In California, government fees, regulations, and permits can add $30,000 to the price of a house. In one California community, the permit just to put a solar collector on one's roof cost's $1,200. In Portland, Oregon and other places, Agenda 21 comprehensive planning policies have created artifical housing shortages causing the prices of housing to skyrocket. Zoning has required over building and its own inefficiencies.
The response to too much government is always more government. When the term 'affordable housing' is used, there is usually a corporatist subsidy scheme, courtesy of taxpayers, not far behind.
This is a cynical ploy. We have a HUGE
housing problem due to foreclosures and job loss courtesy of our government.
Look at the tent cities flourishing in this country. But here it's a distortion caused by bureaucrats robbing people of rights and money over recent decades.
In most UN member countries it's normal; perpetually people live in shacks, shanties, huts -- even unsheltered living on the streets of major cities.
These UN nazis know that. They would use this investigation not to resolve the real problem, but to propagandize for more centralized controls.
What I find interesting about this
The left is screaming bloody murder of the US Constitution and the right, incl here on DP remains SLIENT.
Apparently the right is going with the flow to the UN.
WE ARE GOING TO WIN!

Econ 101 - Rent Control
As I learned in Econ 101 (in 1973) from my Milton Friedman textbook, the cities that kept rent control after WWII have really bad housing.
In a free market, if housing in town were free to raise rents, the apartments would be fixed up and "gentrified" and the people who could afford it would move back into town, and let the people who couldn't afford it, live in the suburbs (with grass and back yards and parks) and a longer commute because they can afford the time better than the dollars.
The quality of housing would go up for everyone.
