Because of the lack of health insurance, Ben could not afford to get addictions or depression counseling. Without the ability to pay for mental health support his addictions resurfaced until he overdosed, leaving several hundred people grief stricken. The world truly is a worse place without him. And he could have been saved with counseling. Shame on you, America, for letting such a wonderful man die.

Health Care really is about Life or Death. - We lost Angie December 5, 2005 to colon and liver cancer. She died a week before her 48th birthday. She left behind 2 daughters, one who was only 16, and still in High School. The truly sad part is she probably would have lived a little longer if she was able to buy the medicine she needed to help her fight cancer. She was my co-worker and my friend. We worked together for the Dept. of the Navy, Civil Service, for approx. 20 years. SHE HAD HEALTH INSURANCE, but her co-payment for the medicine she needed was $500.00. She only told me this once, and it was heartbreaking to hear her say, what choice did she have when she needed to pay her rent. What little amount of money she received for disability prevented her from qualifying for medicaid. I even remember her telling me when she was taking chemotherapy, that a patient had to pay the copayment before treatment, or they were not allowed to have the treatment. Can you even imagine that. After 20 years of paying for health insurance (maybe not the same insuance company since we could change during open season), she could not even afford the medicine she needed to live.

For an informed citizenry, individuals must discard the television set in favor of the acquisition of information via either books and/or the internet. An uneducated populous will remain in ignorance and thus continue to suffer the sharp ax of tyranny.
