Become a Delegate or we DON'T Win

Become a delegate to get Ron Paul the GOP nomination; As delegates, we'll be picking the GOP nominee just like the electors in the electoral college pick the President; Delegates determine and decide who the GOP nominee is---it's that critical!

Please become a delegate!

We need everyone to do this one thing. The neocons fear this more than anything else.

Iwould like to hear more

from any people who know more about this.

No matter what kind of

No matter what kind of resistance you may run across at your local GOP you MUST fight through it and become a delegate for Ron Paul. Keep it under your hat who you support and just say you want to get involved with the political process.

I'm from Texas and will give a short overview of how the process works here. First thing is to go to the County Clerk an get a map of the voting precincts in your county, then get together with your meetup group if you have one, if not get together with all the RP supporters you know and mark on the map which precinct each of you are in, then get in touch with the County GOP Chair person and get a list of all the precinct chair persons. I have found that this list will show current precinct chair persons and also show that some of the precincts WILL NOT have a chair persons. In this case, if it happens to be your precinct, you can ask the County chair person to become the chair person for your precinct. If you can become the precinct chair of your precinct it will give you more influence. Don't worry about being new to the process if you become a precinct chair person, you will be sent a packet that explains the procedures and your duties as precinct chair (actualy real simple).

After you and your group have marked on the map who is in which precinct (hopefully you will have at least one person in each precinct), each of you then need to canvass your precinct and get as many RP supporters as you can for that precinct. A great tool for this is to go to the County Voter registration office and buy their CD with all the registered voter in your County. Cost for this CD is $40.

I say this because after you all vote in the primary you need to have as many people as you can go to each Precinct meeting right after the polls close to elect delegates to go to the County Convention later.

Depending on the size (population) of your precinct you will find that after the polls close and you go to the precinct meeting, different precincts will have different attendance numbers. Some precincts will have larger attendance than others. A lot of precincts will have very low attendance.

This is when your committment to RP becomes important. The more people you can have as a group attend your Precinct meeting after the polls close the better chance you have of controlling the meeting.

Examples:
1. If you were to show up for your precinct meeting and you were the only one to do so, you could elect yourself Precinct chair and delegate.

2. If you and your group (say 15 people) show up for the precinct meeting and their are 14 other people there, you will nonminate someone for precinct chair (a new chair is elected every 2 Years) and second the motion. Being that you have one more person than the other group when the vote comes up you will have one more vote than the other group and will elect your nominee. Same thing for delegates, you will nominate persons for delegates, second the motion and then elect your chosen delegates.

Then it's on the the County or district conventions, then the State convention, then the National convention.

I'll stop here for the time being so you can digest this part and add anything I might have missed. (I'm new to all this myself)

Will add to this thread as needed.

Get started now because it takes time to build your precinct organizations and get everyone on the same page.

Your Example 1 is unlikely in many locales...

Example 1. If you were to show up for your precinct meeting and you were the only one to do so, you could elect yourself Precinct chair and delegate.

In most locales (and definitely in my own) there has to be a "quorum" of a minimum number of people present (I believe 3) for the meeting to be considered valid. If no such meeting is held or attendance is below the minimum required for a quorum, then the position typically becomes an "appointed position" at the discretion of either the county chairperson or an executive committee.

Same thing tends to happen for the "empty" counties; the district chairperson and/or executive committee get to "appoint" people to "represent" the empty county (and then residency requirements, etc go out the window as well).

Again on to the district level as well. If several of the counties have "dead" or "empty" party mechanisms and/or quorum and minimums are not reached in meetings or caucuses, then the district itself may consist of nothing but party hacks "appointed" from adjacent districts to "represent" the entire district and "fill out" the roster of personnel.

What ends up happening is that the party leadership kind of starts to LIKE this routine, as it virtually allows them to control 10-25% [or more] of the voting as virtual "proxies" of their own votes.

Heck I've been in associations and corporations where -- perfectly legally done -- the MAJORITY of the votes are "proxies" that are "granted" to the current board to vote with! (OT: One of the reasons CEO pay has gotten so ridiculous is the result of 401K's owning a significant portion of stock and the proxies being handed to the board; that's the LEGAL end result of "non-controllable directed investments" being done for tax-deferment purposes -- you didn't think they wanted your Retirement funds and Social Security to be "privatized" without a good reason did you?)

Delegate

You know what? I'm afraid to say that the Republican party where I am is FIXING this election. I have been trying to become a delegate and have not been successful. When I called the district leader she immediately asked me "who are you going to vote for?" None of her damn business and I didn't tell her. I stayed on the issues. Then she went on to call Obama a "muslim" OUTRIGHT LIES. Then said "don't listen to the internet." and.." the libertarian isn't a republican."

Whatever. I'm coming away thinking that the whole system is RIGGED! right down to the local level. Oh, I asked her who she was voting for...she wouldn't tell me...but I know it was Rudy by the way she was talking.

So I'm about ready to give up here. I have NEVER given to a campaign before Ron Paul's. I have NEVER wanted to get involved like I do now. I go to get involved and get a bunch of CRAP from the party.

Whatever! Any suggestions?

Get a lawyer to send the request for info.

Seriously. As long as you are a paid member of the party, you are entitled to that information.

So go talk to a lawyer and have HIM write the letter.

After they change pants, they WILL get you the info.

The problem then will be that if there is any "voting" involved at a local county or district caucus, you [personally] will be marked for failure.

Other, probably BETTER ALTERNATIVE:

Contact the campaign HQ and tell them about the encounter -- this is something THEY should be dealing with rather than you personally. (And I know they can't handle EVERY locality, but the truth is they don't have to handle ALL of them, just the problem ones.) If they tell you they "can't do anything" then tell them you're done trying too.

This is the only way...

...to win.

The mainstream media is dead.

Look at these delegate numbers! We need delegates!

This is the next battle front!

WE MUST HAVE MORE DELEGATES!!!

http://delegate.notlong.com

ZERO CHANCE OF WINNING.. WIthout US BECOMING DELEGATES

We could win an OVERWHELMING POPULAR VOTE..

But if we don't have the delegates in place to go and VOTE .... we win nothing...

Its NOT the popular vote that wins... its the DELEGATE that the POPULAR VOTE SENDS TO THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE...

Please look into this... without them we CAN NEVER WIN!!

Delegate Counting

I plan on trying to become a delegate. But what happens when I'm at the Republican convention? Who counts my vote? Who controls the environment? If we get the delegates, will my voice be heard?

Absolutely Vital!

I am going to New Hampshire for a month to put my boots on the ground, because I can.... this then volley's to the ball to you. 2 hours a month is very little to gain so much. I will be driving for 8 hours in the winter to a place I don't know but I don't think it is a lot to do. It is what needs to be done next.

Become delegates or Ron Paul will not be the Republican nominee.

I agree, this SHOULD be where you can not miss it. It IS that important. I've always been perplexed at why hasn't been up front and center. ?

"I'am signing up this

"I'am signing up this week".

"Observe the masses, and do the opposite."

"Observe the masses, and do the opposite."

This is SO easy

Being a delegate is SO easy, we should all be doing it. In Washington state, you can be a Precinct Committee Officer, which gives you automatic caucus voting rights, for only doing work 1 - 2 hours a month! Anyone can do this, and Ron Paul must have delegates to win.

All our enthusiasm and passion will be for not if we don't organize and work the system. We all want to change the system, but the fact is we MUST work with the system in place or we have no hope of anything ever changing.

Become a delegate today!

Might have been easy in your district...

...but it is NOT so easy for everyone else.

There is a lot of misinformation and DISinformation flying around -- along with ignorance, incompetence, and possibly downright stonewalling being done in local parties.

Every state is different (and in some states every district and even every county or precinct) so you cannot generalize your personal experience to everyone else's.

This should be a sticky post...

...as it is probably the most difficult hurdle of all.
