Protesters at Chicago ABA Meeting Target New Welfare Queens

These videos were taken yesterday morning:

Their energy is inspiring. What they are demanding, less so:

"Tell me what you want, what you really want," he called. Hundreds of voices shouted back, "Our homes back!" "Tell me what you need, what you really need." "CFPA!"

CFPA?

Yep, you heard right, hundreds of people were chanting for a Consumer Financial Protection Agency, a new oversight body Barack Obama has proposed that could ban such disastrous practices as no-doc mortgages, payday loans, and no-warning overdraft fees on checking accounts.

In essence, they are protesting for, demanding in fact, bigger government. Oh boy.

They are being misled.

Perfect example is this Daily Kos article http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/10/6/790232/-Weekly-Audit...

Ralph Nader is THE last word on consumer protection on the left. Look at what the article says about Nader

"If you think that sounds pessimistic, consider Ralph Nader, who Matthew Rothschild profiles in The Progressive. Nader knows corporate America has its hands on nearly every lever in the U.S. political system. Lobbyists don't just hurl money at lawmakers, they spend tremendous sums on misleading advertisements to sway public opinion. Rothschild quotes from a recent speech Nader gave on his current book tour. He argues that progressives don't just need concerned citizens on our side. They need concerned citizens with money to counter the flood of corporate cash in the political system.

"There is a poignance in listening to Ralph Nader these days," Rothschild writes. "Here is a man who, for the last 45 years, has hurled his body at the engine of corporate power. He's dented it more than anyone else in America. But he knows it's still chugging, even more strongly than ever."

Notice what Nader says? He did not quote Nader, he "explains" Nader:

"He (Nader) argues that progressives don't just need concerned citizens on our side. They need concerned citizens with money to counter the flood of corporate cash in the political system."

Nader is not saying they need a CFPA. He's saying that people need to form their own consumer agencies unstead of letting the government do it for them.

I agree with Nader on this and it's a shame the Democrats who are eating crow for going with Obama instead of Nader, are looking back to Nader, and being misled.

I love on Freedom Force International's homepage that comparison of cats and dogs. Cats look at and concentrate on the effects of an action while dogs focus on the cause. If you throw a rock at a cat it will look at the rock, the effect. If you throw a rock at a dog, it will look at you, the cause. These people are like cats focusing on the effects and making it the cause. I bet they never questioned what the true cause of their predicament is, that is besides "It's too much greed!"

Issuing The Brown Shirts

Chicago and Cook County residents aren’t the only ones about to get shocking tax news; the city is debuting a “tax whistle-blower” plan that could turn neighbor against neighbor in Chicago’s business community.

Did the protests get coverage on local TV?

I heard that Chicago is looking to privatize the water system.

I very rarely watch the news

Last night I turned it on for a moment but did not see anything on this. Also, I haven't heard anything about Chicago water being privatized. I know my mother receives Chicago water in her town and it is really expensive (her base price is $65 w/o using a drop) due to the union pipe line delivering the water. Chicago can be a beautiful town but the corruption here is so ingrained it's become normal to so many.

I live in the burbs but under

"Crooked" County jurisdiction. You're right, people are crazy out here. We are in the process of being foreclosed on and thinking of just moving out of state. Way to much corruption in Illinois and everyone wants a hand out. I just heard this morning "Crooked" county will be RAISING residential taxes anywhere from 10 - 20 percent! They are insane!

unfettered come out of her mouth...HA!

I live in Chicago and yes it’s as bad as everyone assumes.

The school system is the worst (even for a gov. schools), Al Capone is the Mayor, my representatives are the ones on the video’s you see all over screaming for total nationalization of industry.

“I don’t want to argue about it” is a common phrase here, but its only spoken when it’s your turn to correct obvious fallacies.
And if you try to speak a lot of people turn red and yell and a few people I’ve seen change mannerisms to almost violent characteristics if you oppose their ideas. (shaking from an adrenaline rush accompanied by a direct verbal assault toward you) as if you’ve taken them to their breaking point.

It’s a strange place

like a Punch and Judy puppet show

we sit mesmerized by the left hand battling the right hand while our pockets are picked..

brilliant!
