Here is a GREAT Drudge article today: U.S. official resigns over Afghan war
The article is titled "U.S. official resigns over Afghan war; Foreign Service officer and former Marine captain says he no longer knows why his nation is fighting"
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10...
The influential officer that resigned left because he has come to the same conclusion as we all have...
Here is an excerpt:
"But many Afghans, he wrote in his resignation letter, are fighting the United States largely because its troops are there -- a growing military presence in villages and valleys where outsiders, including other Afghans, are not welcome and where the corrupt, U.S.-backed national government is rejected. While the Taliban is a malign presence, and Pakistan-based al-Qaeda needs to be confronted, he said, the United States is asking its troops to die in Afghanistan for what is essentially a far-off civil war"

honorable man, and thanks be to him, but he still hasn't grasped
...that we do not have a right or obligation to be "governing" over there, any more than a foreign nation has a right to be governing us in any way.
Hoh says, "We want to have some kind of governance there, and we have some obligation for it not to be a bloodbath," Hoh said. "But you have to draw the line somewhere, and say this is their problem to solve."
The light is coming on, despite the massive propaganda and brainwashing he himself has been through by the US government and military, but if he thinks it makes any sense for us to be trying to govern this culture we honestly know nothing about (except a few academics or immigrants who may be advising the military), then he is still deluded.
I thank him for his service and bravery though, and wish him the best, and certainly hope he comes to a full understanding, based in principle, as to why we should not be there, and why our presence there only undermines our national security, not to mention, is directly leading to the deaths of many servicemen, who are leaving their children fatherless and breaking the hearts of their loved ones.
"It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning." - Henry Ford
The resignation letter
is well worth reading. Lets hope this helps wake up the anti-war movement int his country.

Did he say on or off the record why it took him so long? Maybe
For some reason, we're expected to know every law that exists in America & in our state so we don't break it. We're supposed to know this when we're 18. There's no litmus test for them, as in the 10 commandments or rhyme or reason. C.U.R.E. Thank God for bugs, they're company for people in solitary confinement.
he was given the wrong address to send it to, more than once.

what a great summary of the
what a great summary of the nonsensical American foreign policy, i love it. Reminded me of points made by Dr. Paul in his book " A foreign Policy of Freedom"

this guy has earned one.

read the whole thing - it is well thought out and he is specific on the points and his reasons for resigning.
awesome
a cup of real hope and change (for a change) this morning.
rEVOLution!
from his resignation letter....
"We are spending ourselves into oblivion" a very talented and intelligent commander, one of America's best, briefs every visitor, staff delegation and senior officer. We are mortgaging our Nation's economy on a war which even with increased commitment will remain a draw for years to come. Success and victory whatever they may be, will be realized not in years, after billions more spent, but in decades and generations. The United States does not enjoy a national treasury for such success and victory.
good news story
I like news stories like that : ). God bless that man, that took courage.

Now if they would all just
Now if they would all just quit and come home we can get on with rebuilding America instead of destroying their homes and country.
This is good
hope more of our soldiers and others say "enough".

wishing
this letter could go viral...it would seem that many of our uniformed men and women share his feelings. These wars have nothing to do with the defense of our nation.
I have been posting this
I have been posting this article on some sites which I frequent...I agree with you that this has to go viral.

Good news! It a long read but a good read. I learned a thing or
two about the situation on the ground in Afghanistan. Worth the time.
"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle." Sun Tzu - The Art of War
Good to see this article
Good to see this article apearing on the front page of the Drudge Report. Me thinks Mr. Drudge dosen't want us in Afghanistan b/c he is always posts about how low the troops morale is and what not.
