Ron Paul on The View yesterday... high hopes, poor outcome
Submitted by informant on Wed, 12/05/2007 - 11:31I caught the 10am The View show yesterday. Of course Babs (Barbara Walters) was too much of a CFR puss to sit face to face with Ron Paul. Anyway, there was 20-30 mins of the hosts talking. They appalling poked fun at Ron Paul before he had even came out, putting his picture up on the background screen and making fun of his looks. That was appalling.
Then they had the young actress from Little Miss Sunshine on from
10:30-10:44am (14mins of airtime) about nothing.
Then Ron Paul came on and they had him on in such an afterthought manner, from 10:45-10:51, NOT EVEN 7 FULL MINUTES OF AIRTIME FOR A TOP RANKING PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE.
Of course The View hosts mucked the whole thing up with the abortion topic for 4 full minutes to try and successfully hamstring Ron Paul from branching out and milking the visit with all his great ideas and topics, but they kept holding him down with abortion entanglement what ifs.
Then the next 1 minute was on immigration... and that was it...
RIDICULOUS and appalling.
Ron Paul does have a GOLDEN opportunity to have GLENN BECK interview him, and him alone, for 1 FULL HOUR on his #3rd in the country radio show, and 1 FULL ADDITIONAL HOUR On his popular CNN show....
GO to YouTube, and just type in Glenn Beck Ron Paul interview.
Glenn Back made this personally address video clip To Ron Paul and his supporters to offer up free airtime and to get all his ideas out. Obviously Glenn Beck will muddy the waters a bit, but Ron Paul can stand on his own two feet and get TWO HOURS OF FREE NATIONAL AIRTIME>.. there is less than 1month, get Ron Paul on Glenn Beck.

The point during this
The point during this appearance was never to convert liberals who have made up their mind on these issues. The point was to reach the others- the ones with open minds who are willing to look into these issues and who are seeking a new kind of leadership.
Think about the people who saw this and thought to themselves, "I wonder why they kept talking over him? Maybe I should look into this myself."

I haven't watched the show,
I haven't watched the show, but from the transcript it reads like it went very well. It looks like they gave him a great chance to explain his point of view. Many people are openly hostile to any anti-abortion stance (I assume this is high in the VIew viewership) and he got a great chance to logic through it and show that he respects a woman's rights too. Great media coverage on it as well.
That nast hag behar is hated by so many
The only people who like Joy Behar are old Yenta's like Barbara Walters. I would think any watcher's of the veiw would be sickened by Behar's attack on Ron Paul by the way he put her in her place. I would also belive most veiw watchers aren't gung ho abortionists there old fat women with kids and no Job.The people who are concerned about abortions are the people who want to destroy America . Communist ,Greedy Globalist ,Nuts like this http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/femail/article.html?in...
and open border traders and self haters
Now I'm not Pro Abortion or Anti Abortion I believe some people shouldn't be allowed to breed. And abortions in cases involving Incest ,Major Deformaties,Rape. Adoptions should be made easier and the rights of the parent should end permanently after adoption and the child should have no ability to contact there real parents.People don't want a kid who 15 years down the line is gonna wanna reunite with there parents
I just don't get this constant carping on abortion
American's are split completely down the middle when it comes to this subject. There is NO real resolution and it is NEVER the function of a sitting U.S. president to have any say so whatsoever on the subject, no matter what his personal beliefs are. No presidential writ, or congressional edict will ever overturn Roe v. Wade. Give it up ladies! It's a non-issue for any president. Stop asking this irrelevant question… Please!

Pro-life women rejoice!
Pro-life women rejoice!
It was a great interview
I loved his appearance.
He did great. I just wish it had been longer.
Next up:Glenn Beck
WOW! WOW! WOW! Unexpected positive ramifications!!! WOW!
I visited rpcallblitz' link below:
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Vote2008/Story?id=3952314&page=1
I can't believe what I see. RP's video clips on ABC are playing continuously now, for I don't know how long. WOW! This The View interview and the associated news link above just opened up a whole new MSM free advertisement for RP's issues and interviews.
WOW! for the unbelievers, it's time to make a choice: Liberty or bondage? Your choice. Just come home!
I read through all these
I read through all these comments but I think we missed one little detail. Towards the end of the show, RP replied by asking if they would rather support a for-war candidate and I think it was an overwhelming no from the panelist.
He just differentiated himself from the pack in 10 seconds of airtime!!! Isn't he great or what?
At the very least, The
At the very least, The View's audience now has a little clue that there is an OB/GYN that is running and the host though asked a RP supporter banned ?, nonetheless, gave RP "I like RP" intro at the start and asked what may be an honest question, to give her the benefit of the doubt. I've seen her defend RP's position from a previous debate with Giuliani.
I bet she asked it sincerely. I am guessing she is still seriously considering RP as the candidate, especially after introducing him as someone with support from Democrats, as well.
Cheer up. I think we need to continue this dialog. I think it's time for another appointment with The View to explore other women related issues. I bet you, if given a chance, they might talk health care, and environment. Let's all chime in and ask for a repeat performance?
The view
Overall, at first I was disappointed, as any Ron Paul supporter would be, when I saw the program live. Afterwards, I realized his "face time" was more important, and he was introduced as an OB/GYN to MILLIONS of women who respect that profession very deeply, and the joking was of the mildly flirtatious variety and not cruel. Keep in mind, we need name recognition, and name/face recognition. Now, we have added former profession, common affection for children, care for the unborn, a strong dislike for partial birth abortion, and he scored hits that might not be immediately apparent to men, or ardent followers. Patience is a tough virtue to have when we are short on time. So, I would say it was not as big as Jay Leno, but not bad with the ladies, and we need every one of them.
By the way, did anyone read the GQ interview with Ted Turner and see how Ted views the foreign policy nearly the same as Ron Paul? If Ted could bend a little on domestic policy... but then he owns Time/Warner, so I guess not!
Ron Paul 2012
Came across as kind and gentile...
I thought he did better than the MSM wanted him to, hell they even put him up with Whoopi to make him look bad.
Seemed almost like "hey let ol grampa Paul run the country" , he is kind, honest, and came explain things very patiently.
I thought it was just great
I think paul has found his approach to the abortion issue. Present his states view, let the life/choice controversy stew, then point back to why states choice eliminates some of these issues.
He got his view out to a number of people who might otherwise never have heard of it, and being the only candidate on the program, he might do well. Its interesting he is being considered by some the most leftist of the republicans, and by others the most extreme right wing.
Those who praise him deem him a centrist, while those that vilify make him a right wing idealogue.
But all in all. I thought it was a great showing.
Left and Right...what about Up and Down?

“Because we live in a largely free society, we tend to forget how limited is the span of time and the part of the globe for which there has ever been anything like political freedom: the typical state of mankind is tyranny, servitude, and misery.” - Milton Friedman from Capitalism and Freedom
Interesting, but unsurprising...
... to anyone familiar with the Nolan Chart.
To anyone who believes in the one-dimensional political spectrum, they simply can't conceptualize libertarianism. It seems like a random hodgepodge of positions.
Teach them about the second dimension and it all falls into place quickly. With any luck, awareness of the second dimension will grow into an appreciation for what it has to offer.
Baffled By Negative Responses to RP View Appearance
When I read the negative comments on DailyPaul about RP's appearance on the View, I was certain I would want to throw a bomb at my computer when I finally got to see it on Google Video. To my very pleasant surprise, I had quite a different reaction.
Ms. Behar and colleagues weren't making fun of Dr. Paul; rather, they accepted him with affection.
Ms. Behar obviously holds RP in high esteem but she took the opportunity to ask a question that was important to her (in common with many other women). RP held his own and didn't pander and sowed some great seeds for thought for even the most ardent pro-choice folks.
Ms. Behar and colleagues clearly appreciated RP's fresh point of view and ended wishing they had more time because they had many more questions.
I'm not certain how it could have gone any better. Perhaps several million women are now intrigued enough to Google Ron Paul and watch the videos, which are the most certin route to a Ron Paul addiction.
That's my two cents.
By the way, my wife saw the whole show and agrees that it was a definite positive.
R. Match
Didn't pander...
Couldn't agree more. EVERY time Dr. Paul is presented with a "hostile" crowd he calmly and methodically defends his position regardless of the audience. The more often this happens, the more people will see how consistent and princpled he is and they'll be drawn to his candidacy.
I loveeeeeeeeed it
he was honest and stuck to his guns i bet he even 1 over a few neo cons go ron paul
The best thing you can do is
The best thing you can do is e-mail The View and ask for them to invite him back. Outside of Opraha - this is the biggest mid-day show for the ladies.
Now that I've seen it, I'm pleased
Imagine pro-life Mom's in Iowa watching it. Ron did a great job by asking the questions he did. Look how many concessions he got from them. Whoopie said something to the effect that nobody thinks abortion is good and the other one said she's against abortion in most cases after a certain point.
Anyone wanting the abortion issue to be debated more should be very pleased.
I think anyone watching was left wanting more.
I think they treated each other with respect, despite the jokes beforehand.
On the whole, I think he made a great impression, even on "pro-choice" voters. He showed common sense and a willingness to debate it.
I think you'll see this result in more talk-show appearances, and perhaps a return to The View. He's a great guest.

They discussed abortion... WOW What a BIG SURPRISE
What about the war?
Oh no, we don't want to discuss something that would make the entire panel agree with the guy who can't possible win...?!
On the war... so if you don't vote Ron Paul, your basically supporting continued quagmire in Iraq? I wonder if it would bother their consciences
R3VOLUTION - Secret Crowds
Don't try to change it
"The View" is a show oriented toward a predominately female audience, successfully so, because it's been on for many years, and abortion is an issue that concerns many women. I would have been surprised and disappointed if they hadn't made to point to discuss it. Remember the saying: know your audience. I doubt you and I are the typical "The View" viewers. I think many of the viewers would have been bored and maybe even depressed by a long discussion about the war, but I'm sure the emotionally charged abortion topic really kept their interest. It does us no good if the viewers turn off their T.V.s!
You have GOT to be kidding me!
Do you really think Glenn Beck is a better venue for Ron Paul than "The View?" Ron Paul's patient and gentle manner impressed many women yesterday, including myself, and the polls show he needs to reach more female voters. I think the interview has a huge success.
I agree the ladies behavior on the show was appalling, but much less so than Glenn Beck implying Ron Paul supporters are a bunch of terrorists! Am I the only one who remembers that? Let me refresh your memory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eg8M2JBIoqo
He hasn't apologized or even corrected the inaccuracies in that piece as far as I know. In light of this and the fact Glenn Beck has no where near the audience of "The View," if the Ron Paul campaign decided it's best not to do the Glenn beck show, I would applaud the decision.
i thought it was fine
he talked a whole lot of sense to those ladies.
I don't think there was anything he said that people could disagree with.
I disagree
I thought that it turned out great. The thing to realize about this program is that its audience is more conservative than its hosts. Who do you think watches a show that comes on at 10:00 a.m.? Although other people can record it, I think that the majority of their audience consists of retired people and stay-at-home moms. My parents watch this show regularly. If not for me, my parents never would have heard of Dr. Paul. I think that being on this show was good exposure to a group of people who would probably support him, but don't know about him.
Drain the swamp!
They've got some real idiots
They've got some real idiots on that show. One thought the world was flat and most did not even know that there were Greeks on the planet before Christ.
The average IQ of the viewer of that show must be pretty low. Not worth worrying about. Can't reach the criminally stupid.
In defense of "The View"
have you ever seen "The Man Show" on Spike...lol?!
Glenn Beck is a nobody
TV wise.
RP on Glenn Beck will only help Beck.
500,000 viewers is nothing.
Let Trey Parker and Matt Stone put him on South Park for better exposure.
I never knew that NAMBLA was real until that show.
I'm not discounting the media attention but he shouldn't go out of his way to go on.
He recently came to Melbourne, FL
And for 'a nobody' Glenn had an awfully big line of people wanting him to sign his book. (Sadly, he also had new, and very-effective, provisions in-place to prevent wiseguys like me from fooling him into signing Dr. Paul's book again! Oh well...)
Anyway, I probably find Mr. Beck just as offensive as Jane finds Howard Stern, but I *still* think the good Doctor should do his occasionally-insipid show, especially considering all that airtime.
JMR
He's nobody
I'm assuming he has big pockets of viewers in some areas of the U.S., but he certainly doesn't have a large audience overall! I'd never even heard of Glenn Beck myself until he did that hit piece on Ron Paul supporters. In contrast, I've known about "The View" show for many years. I never watched it before yesterday, but I'd heard of it.
Now that you mentioned this,
Now that you mentioned this, I wonder if Beck did the hit piece on RP supporters to make waves for his upcoming book or help to sell more? Anybody has idea of the timing of these two events?
