TN launches boycott of 'unconstitutional' federal laws

0 votes

Tennessee is urging 49 other states to come together and create a "joint working group between the states" to combat unconstitutional federal legislation and assert state rights.

Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen signed HJR 108, the State Sovereignty Resolution on June 23. According to the Tenth Amendment Center, the resolution created a committee to form a joint working group between the states to enumerate the abuses of authority by the federal government and seek repeal of imposed mandates.

State Rep. Susan Lynn recently wrote a letter to the other 49 state legislatures, inviting them to join the group and warning that the role of the federal government has been "blurred, bent and breached."

Nice. We need more of this.

Nice. We need more of this. Much more. Hopefully the gun guys are only the spearhead, and all kinds of laws (like the Feds mandating health insurance) will become contested at the state level. The beauty is, the freer a state gets, and the less Federal mandates it complies with, the more people and businesses will be willing to relocate there.

With state coffers in the doldrums, this may, if we're lucky, engender a genuine 'beggar thy neighbor' race to the bottom regulation war, as states sees an opportunity to pilfer employers and high earners from big coastal states with too big entrenched statist blocks to be able to compete with them. Were it not for Federal intervention to prop up the union backed Democrats, Michigan would likely already be well on their way to right to work laws, simply in order to keep absolutely every single company from moving south. We need more of that, and also of states recognizing how the feds will intervene in favor of the statists, like they did in Michigan, and start circumscribing the feds' ability to tax a state's residents.

Then, if they get really enlightened, they may even realize that almost every state in the union are massively subsidizing New York, and perhaps a few others, via inflationary wealth transfers, directly hurting the residents of at least 40 of the 50 states. Even the Fed can't do much damage if all those hurt by its inflationary schemes opt to use a different currency.

A positive sign. But...

...Gov't abuse, regardless of which governing body, needs to be kept at bay.

Tennessee was recently considering fingerprinting speeders.

This committee sounds like a step in the right direction toward reigning in a federal gov't that is too big for its britches. But a state gov't that wants to tread on people's rights is a threat also.

Anyway, thanks for the post.

The fingerprinting act

was stopped cold.

There is a strong sovereignty movement in this state, but it is sometimes stymied by the liberal contingents which represent the major cities.
The liberals in Memphis, Chattanooga, and Nashville, and to a lesser extent Knoxville, have a big say, and all the big cities are liberal establishment big-govt types. And they have state reps and senators that vote that way.

Nevertheless, this is a move in the right direction, and it passed, and the Gov signed it, and is a beacon to other states to move that way.
If enough other states get on the band-wagon, then it might stand some chance of having some effect. Somebody had to start up the activity.

Good that the fingerprinting act was stopped. And yes,

...this committee definitely seems like a step in the right direction.

I like Tennessee. I have been there only once and I loved it. If I could pick any place in the world to live, it would be a place I'd consider.

Glad they are calling attention to the abuse of federal authority.

False title of story.

It does nothing of the sort- TN isn't ending the enforcement of unConstitutional Fed. law. All it does is create some committee.

I'm sure that'll go real far.

You never know....

until you find out. You draw from your experience from the dismal decades of recent years.... when credit and muni bonds flowed like water. You have a right to be cynical.
However...
As states and municipalities begin to convulse from abysmal revenues....
discontent is breeding.
You have zero experience (in this country) now to draw from regarding such conditions. None of us do.
Radical yes. Painful yes..... we (and local) muni's face a brave new world.
What (exactly), in their malcontent they will be willing to conceive and do... none of us know.... it's never happened in your and my lifetime... of theirs.
So.... organize the malcontent.... it's a good start toward harnessing its potential power.
You never know..... until you find out.
Cheers,
G.

They can start by repealing the 17th Ammendment!

What the states need is representation in the US Congress. That's what the Senators were supposed to be. With the 17th Ammendment, Senators became directly elected in general elections, and the US republic lost one of its most important "checks" on the balance of power. If the states had their representation in Congress, there would be no more unfunded mandates, no more unconstitutional power grabs of state power. Power would graviate towards decentralization, back to the local government.

This sounds great but I

This sounds great but I don't think they realize all that will need to be repealed if they follow through with this. If they really took what they're proposing seriously we'd see the repeal of several amendments, laws, federal departments and agencies, taxes, subsidies, drug laws, land grabs and a whole lot more. And I haven't heard a lot of that kind of talk from either party. So I'm not quite sure how far it will get with this once the realization sets in, but if they're serious I'd say this is a step in the right direction. If they're not its just another weak gesture.

"Grrr we're fierce! Don't tread on us! but... but, you know, you can still give us money and stuff, right?...I mean, if you want ...please? We're still cool... right?? We didn't mean it, honest. Don't be mad at us! Tennessee put us up to it, I swear! We'll be good, we promise!"

Gotta start somewhere

providing there is a clause that if they do break a promise that they will vacate said office without question immediately. I just opened up the page and I will research it more, hopefully we can take back the republic without a war with this movement. In the meantime I believe in Ron and Rand Paul, nevertheless very surprised to not see their names on the petition. Would it not help the movement if they signed on?

Yea, for Tennessee

The Tenth Amendment
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

I am going to contact my three congressfrauds and my govna. This is what I have been hoping and wishing would happen. When they get the 10th going, they need to step up togeher on the rest. This is basically what some of the states have already done with declaring their sovereignty. But they need to back up that sovereignty with a secede now cause it isn't working. Until we stop paying federal income taxes, it ain't working. Until we get rid of RFID, it ain't workin'. Until we see some progress besides declarations, it ain't working and we must secede to make it work. Secede doesn't have to be forever. Until we get the CHEMTRAILS out of our air--IT ISN'T WORKING.

. . racketeer must forfeit all ill-gotten gains and interest . .

Under RICO, a person who is a member of an enterprise that has committed any two of 35 crimes—27 federal crimes and 8 state crimes—within a 10-year period can be charged with racketeering. Those found guilty of racketeering can be fined up to $25,000 and/or sentenced to 20 years in prison per racketeering count. In addition, the racketeer must forfeit all ill-gotten gains and interest in any business gained through a pattern of "racketeering activity." RICO also permits a private individual harmed by the actions of such an enterprise to file a civil suit; if successful, the individual can collect treble damages.
