You guys may have chickens, but look what showed up in my back yard this morning

The turkeys have been invading Boston for a couple of years now, but this is the first time I saw one in my back yard.
Well, he picked the wrong yard. Now I don't have to buy one for Thanksgiving. I've got him in the freezer now.
Just kidding.

We had a hen and eight chicks last year in the neighborhood
The chicks got big and three were lost to attrition, now they came back this year just saw six of them around the corner the other day.
They sure are something to look at, the more the better I say. If you ever see one flying down from a tree or a roof they make quite a racket with that wingspan, they move a lot of air in vertical motion.

they're beautiful birds, and
they're beautiful birds, and i would never eat them. ever....they're all over north carolina right now as well.
Dude..
If you would have killed that thing, and cleaned it, you'd have been too grossed out to even have made this thread. Wild turkeys are naaaasty. At least in Texas they are.

No way!
Mostly find Rio's in TX... Shot a few of those...
That's plenty good eatin' if you do it right. If you wait too long to field dress your harvest it definitely will taste horrible. That's with any game.
Deep fryin' them is AWESOME, or soak 'em in buttermilk overnight and stuff the cavity with sliced apples then roast. Good stuff.
That's a "she"
That is a female turkey, otherwise known as a hen. Males are called roosters and juvenile males are called jakes. Male turkeys have a distinctive plume of feathers called a beard emanating from their breast.
I'm a hardcore turkey hunter.
That is a fact
I've been to some turkey hunting camps in the Bayous where they hang turkey beards all over the thresh holds..
I continue to vote for the hen being named Franklin.

I heard of girls named,
Frankie. Maybe, Frankie has a husband named Tom (Thomas Jefferson) and
if they have chicks they could be little Patriots. LOL

I'd consider a compromise
Frankie is cute.

Shows how much I know about turkeys.
Today I know a little more.
Thanks.
Male chickens are roosters
Male turkeys are toms. You're right about jakes though.

I
have seen the walking up mass ave in your neck of the woods. Thet are all over my neighborhood. For those who dont know Mass Ave is a very busy street in the middle of a good size city in Massachusetts
Hi Tom
Mass Ave actually runs through many towns & is very busy. From Boston, up through Cambridge, though Arlington (my town), up to Lexington & out to Concord.
I saw a turkey in Kendall Square last year, but I've never seen any around here.
I live near the Alewife wildlife preserve. We actually saw a deer down here a few week ago. And there are bunnies and toads and turtles, and crickets & cicadas in the summer. Nice area, and just 20 minutes on the subway to downtown Boston.
I saw
them on mass Ave cambridge near the Arlington line and at the corner of Park Ave and Mass Ave in Arlington. I grew up in Somerville and I am in those areas every day, at least till the work runs dry
update... whats in my back
update... whats in my back yard.. 14"s of snow and counting! man wish we had some of that global warming!

Please support your local coal-fired power plant, and all the hardworking men and women who bust ass to make it happen.
Get those Christmas lights up early and keep 'em glowing. They make Halloween lights, too you know, so get some!
To those of you in the Denver area, there's a little bit of my own elbow grease flowing through the circuits in your house. You're welcome, and I thank you, too.
