Just called Franks office and spoke with some one who identified herself as Alyssa. I asked why 1207 is not going to the floor for a vote, as it has overwhelming support. (308 co-sponsers) She said just because they co-sponser it doesn't mean they'll vote for it. They just co-sponser it because they want to debate it. She was not what I would call warm to my call.
Anyone who is real familar with procedure please explain if shes blowing smoke or is it likely that co-sponsers will not vote for something they co-sponsered. Thanks

Discharge Petition?
I called both offices, they don't care. Barney Franks office did recommend a discharge petition. I read up a little on it. Is there a reason this has not been pursued?

I just called and we need 218 to sign a discharge petition and then it goes straight to the floor for a vote. I wonder why Ron Paul wasn't getting this petition signed at the same him he was getting co-sponsors. We would have had a vote months ago.
There is no need to call Pelosi or Frank. It's time to take them out of the loop.

If I remember correctly, Ron Paul didn't want to go that route, because I don't think he felt he could get 217 additional brave souls to stand up for America instead of their party and sign a discharge petition.
While 308 may have co sponsored the bill it means nothing unless they actually take action by signing a discharge petition that will move it from committee "as is" and to the floor for an up or down vote.
Of course, it goes without saying that once it comes up for a vote that at least 218 members need to vote for it.

That was then and this is now. Times have changed since the bill was introduced. There is much greater support for such legislation.
We need a Discharge Petition thread and start asking RP to go for it!

If I recall it was a bad idea and would do more to silence this great legislation than to promote it.
