I'm struggling with leaving my church now. The United Methodist, as one of it's core beliefs, believes war is incompatible with the message and teachings of Jesus and is opposed to war as matter of National Foreign Policy. This was a big reason I chose this church.

But here I am some years later and the silence is deafening. How can you be opposed to war and not opposed to war?

I hope more of our veterans speak out because I think we're all too disconnected from the wars and the pain they cause. When those wars are being fought as a result of political or profiteering whims it's even more painful.

I watched Winter Soldiers

last year and it was very powerful coming from the veterans. These voices of the soldiers and those of the injured and dead including the millions of civilians are sadly not heard enough. Instead of trying to win hearts and minds of people by occupying thier countries and killing them.. we need to find our own hearts and minds.

Sometimes I feel that there can be no redemption for what has been done in our name and allowed by our ignorance and apathy. I feel as though I am covered in blood and there is no atonement on earth or heaven that can right the wrongs of war. How can so many people support these criminal wars?
