I like to think of it it the last aspect. As an outpouring of love. But gifts never come in the way you might expect.
There is a saying that goes: "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime." I see the government daily giving to people who are unworthy of charity. Young men with nice strong backs like my own who do nothing, but their own tables are filled with roasted flesh and malt beverage. Yet, I see their predicament. Why work when you can get it for free. My own pride would dare not allow me to take something for nothing when I could earn it myself. Why is that? This is because of the way I was taught. My brother has been taught differently than me. It is time for a little school of hard knocks. This would be actually be a true outpouring of love. The tough lessons are usually the best lessons.
Don't think for a second I wouldn't help someone else that I saw in need if they truly deserved a material charity. I will give you an example. One of the kids my cousin went to school is a "poor" person. He has a wife and two kids, and barely has his head above water. He was rained out of work one friday, so I offered him some work. I paid him handsomely for his work of which he was very excited. I know he was happy with his return and I was glad to have helped him. But you know what? He took the following Monday and Tuesday off from his regular job, because of the outpouring of love I gave him. Now he is back in the same predicament. Would I let him help me again? Yes, but not before I have had a good discussion with him first. What about those babies? How are they fed you might ask. Thank you uncle sam. Thank you for the wic program. All of their baby foods are essentially bought for them. My cousin who is partner with me, does not qualify for this program, therefore he must buy his at full retail. Low an behold the price is outrageous. Why? Because it is subsidized by the government. That is how they get nine prices for it. If there were a true free market with no government intervention prices would be competitive, and with no government charity my brother would learn to stand on his own two feet. Consequently, he would "learn" to fish.
I understand that people way up in the media and entertainment business want to give to the people because they can. However, the government is not the place for your charity. There is no need for government to be the middle man of charity. Who do you think would do a better job of dispensing an outpouring of love. You, a being of flesh and blood? Or the government, a legal fiction?
You see, I live amongst the poor. I see them everyday. I know who is deserving of charity and who is not. I would say probably 95% of the people receiving government assistance are unworthy of charity. I know in my heart that if government were to get out of the way, "We the People" would take care of our brothers and sisters in need. Only a person of flesh and blood can make an outpouring of love.

I think you are preaching to the choir
I see this all of the time, too. We don't help people by providing all of these "free" programs. We actually cripple them and keep them poor and then they teach their kids the system. In other countries there are truly poor people that do not have the opportunities we have here. It is getting worse here but we should not have the poverty that we do. There is a figure that 12% of the country is food insecure. THAT is a lot of people in this country. Why is that so? Is it because the resources aren't there? No, because most (not all) have allowed themselves to be that way, thanks to the system.

There are many people begging on the streets constantly. There comes a point in these places where you have to decide to whom you will give money and to whom you will not.
When I see a healthy, well fed, perfectly capable person begging..... or a person who is obviously a drunk or drug abuser, offering me NO service, but simply requesting money, I refuse. They get very angry with me, and often have the same entitlement mentality as those in the US, thinking that SINCE I have more then them, they DESERVE to get something from me, for nothing in return. No VALUE for VALUE. They are unhappy, angry people because they have given up their pride.
If I see a poor person who is offering a SERVICE for their compensation..... whether it be to sing you a song, or polish your shoes, or carry your grocery bag, then I know that they have maintained their pride and realize that they must offer me a VALUE for my money because they are not simply ENTITLED to my money. In this case I DO give them money for their service.
When, however, I see a blind person, or a crippled person, or someone with no feet... and they have no MEANS to help themselves and no government program to help them, I will give them much more than they ask for. And many times, THEY will ALSO offer a song or a pencil or something in return..... because they understand the principle of VALUE for VALUE. Their pride and their character is still intact.

I think about the cliche
I think about the cliche "spread the wealth" and I can't think of a better way to spread the wealth than by doing it myself. (And I do so because I want to) I have been fooled into helping those undeserving of help, but it's like the old saying: "Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me." I find when the government is involved the same undeserving hands are always outstretched.
Been there, Done that!
You are right and I know it. The rest of the world does not. Now, how do we change it.
As harsh as this sounds. Just stop giving to charities. If you are going to give, give to individuals and families. In the coming years they are the ones that will need it. Choose with insight and with love but, No longer give without discretion.
This government IS going to fail ALL of us as it has in the past and will continue into the future. On a Statewide scale it is time to get your politicians to quit accepting anything from the federal abomination and take back our freedom. If state politicians can't do it then get rid of them in any fashion necessary to save yourselves and your neighbors.
We only have a couple of more VERY HARD YEARS.

This is what I have been doing for the past couple of years.
We all know folks in our communities who could use (and deserve) some help. I give money to cancer patients---and I get pretty upset about the "pink" for breast cancer. How in the world would you know if the money is put to good use? You do know they have paid employees, and probably a CEO that makes more money than you do.
