What happened to the

What happened to the Israelites who wanted a king? That was the beginning of the end for their perfect God given system of government that basically only used judges.

This appears to be a lot of

This appears to be a lot of words on an unimportant fantasy issue. Did you really find this important? When there are extreme issues facing you, I would think that it would be expedient to stay focused on reality.

Why do Americans always seem to get distracted from what is really important? But then, I am new here, and I read fast so perhaps I missed something. He certainly does have a way with words, though, I'll give him that.

This is such an absolutely

This is such an absolutely awesome opinion by Lew Rockwell! And it is even more relevant today. Heck, during the Bush years, even the "Vice" President probably had power extending far beyond those of King George. And the only reason Biden does not, is because he's overshadowed by The One, which is literally elevated to the status of Messiah.

"The answer to restoring republican freedom has nothing to do with replacing Clinton with Lott or Kemp or Forbes or Buchanan. The structure of the presidency, and the religious aura that surrounds it, must be destroyed. The man is merely a passing occupant of the Holy Chair of St. Abraham. It is the chair itself that must be reduced to kindling."

This quote is one I wish every "conservative" in America would take to their heart and live by. If they don't, we'll remain forever screwed, regardless how "good" a guy we manage to elect to the presidency. The only real achievement on which any President should be rated, is the extent to which he will participate in this reduction to kindling of his own chair.

that's hardcore.

that's hardcore.

Down with

this usurper.

The President is way too

The President is way too powerful. Its office needs its powers redefined. Obviously you need some sort of executive position, but it can be divided like the Swiss presidency and made more beholden to the legislature.

If you think the Presidency is powerful....

The Supreme Court members are more powerful yet, and are there for LIFE!
And there have been two attempts at impeachment in our recent history, when have we last had an attempt to impeach a Supreme Court Justice?

I favor extending to Israel the same honest friendship that Jefferson and the Founding Fathers urged us to offer to all nations. ...This means I also favor discontinuing foreign aid to governments that are actual or potential enemies of Israel,--Ron Paul

But that man should play the tyrant over God, and find Him a better man than himself, is astonishing drama indeed!~~D. Sayers

There is no difference between an authoritarian government from the right or the left...F. A.Schaeffer

The last sentence. What?

Where did you get this quote? Does not sound right. I don't think RP supports foreign aid to anyone, much less Israel.

I've had plenty to say about

I've had plenty to say about the supreme beings-^H^H^H^H I mean supreme court.

they don't speak for me.

and i don't worship their viewpoints.

Good for you!

In several respects the Swiss model

makes far more sense. Power is dispersed, the people are more empowered.

I'm still of the opinion

I'm still of the opinion that with the passage of the Patriot Act, and later the mishmash of Preservation of Kleptocracy acts of the last year, Switzerland has now taken over the torch as the world's greatest country from the US. Not by much of a margin yet, but that looks set to change with the Force People to Purchase Unwanted Products from Insurance Companies Act. I suspect immigration pressures either already is, or soon will, vindicate this belief. This once great country is going down fast. And hard.

How many people on here think that "we" need

the monarchy, oops I mean, presidency? It would be interesting to see.

*raises hand*

I believe we do.
In a world of the USA being a sovereign state alongside other sovereign states the people should have a voice.

The error is not specifically just The Presidency or executive branch. It is ALL government in it's entirety.
Like pulling weeds, we need to get to the roots; we need to cut the power of our national government back down to manageable levels and we need to insure that our President is willing to follow The Constitution.
What we have lost here is accountability. Deleting the executive branch entirely will actually create less of that and will likely put us on an even faster path towards a police state.

The President should be a worthy person who instinctively upholds The Constitution first and is the voice of reason for both sides of the fence, the people and the government.

virtually no president has

virtually no president has ever been able to preserve that role.

not even my beloved jefferson could refrain from taking advantage of the powers of the position to accomplish his ends.

his ideas and positions were more pure till he took office.

i think the topic has far more validity then your response.
