Third-party runs are for real in N.J., N.Y. races
We need a third-party candidate success like Jesse Ventura.
Half of all Americans back creation of new political party, poll finds
5:00 p.m. MT, Sat., Oct . 31, 2009
NEW YORK - Third-party candidates are shaking up two major races in elections Tuesday, and the success of those candidacies is a warning shot fired at both major parties by voters angry at government and disillusioned by politics as usual.
In New York's 23rd Congressional district, where longtime Republican Rep. John McHugh stepped down to be Army secretary, Dede Scozzafava, the candidate chosen by state GOP leaders to replace him, was forced out of the race by a surging Conservative Party candidate, Doug Hoffman. High-profile national Republicans endorsed Hoffman, saying Scozzafava, a state assemblywoman who supports abortion rights and gay marriage, had abandoned core GOP values.
In the New Jersey governor's race, independent Chris Daggett has gone from afterthought to player in a contest pitting the unpopular incumbent, Democrat Jon Corzine, against Republican Chris Christie.
Daggett is not expected to win the New Jersey contest, and the GOP split in upstate New York could throw the race to Democrat Bill Owens.
But the impact of those candidacies on the high-profile contests points to an anti-incumbent, anti-establishment sentiment that could be a prevailing theme in the 2010 congressional elections and beyond.
"What it says is the public is looking for less self-interested parties and candidates who can reflect the needs of a very frustrated public," said Douglas Astolfi, a history professor at Florida's St. Leo University. "We have two wars and we're in a recession that neither party seems to address in any positive way. There's a deep sense that government has abandoned the common man. People are frustrated and angry."

What we COULD do is...
effectively run two campaigns, Engage someone who is a strong contender and a RP supporter, like Ventura for example, with appeal to BOTH the traditional left and right, build a third party while continuing to support our Repbulican candidates like RP, Schiff, Harris and Kokesh...
At some critical point when the numbers are necessary we then combine the two movements into one... This way, if at some point it appears that the 'powers that be' decide to sabotage the GOP we would already have our alternative in place...
Plus, anyone who did not want to run under the Repub umbrella would have a viable party with which to associate... Best of both worlds!
That makes sense
We have to beat them at there own game.
On this level
Maybe.
On the national level for the POTUS. No. A third party is a coffin on that level. Can you not see what is happening? The powers that be are scared. So they do what they do best. Control the opposition. They are going to steer us into a third party. Herd us into a cave. Then roll a boulder over the mouth of said cave and continue with politics as usual.
I will not leave. I will not walk away. I will be thorn in the side of 9/12er's and Neo-Republicans until I die. Hell, I could be the one who rolls back that boulder and lets everyone out of that cave.
Don't run and hide. Don't be marginalized.
This may be good at this level but no third party will ever win while the powers that be have a say in the election process.
Not only that Granger,
but if the Hannity, Beck, Palin, Gingrich crowd are successful in forming an Indy party, it will effectively 'gut' the present Republican party, making it a "fringe" party, the scapegoat and recipient of everyone's political outrage... thereby leaving the "Republican Libertarians" holding the bag.
I think we should have all the makings of an independent party in place so that we can have it ready to go in case RP, Schiff, Kokesh and others need to jump over before the GOP derails... We need to continue bringing in the tea party protesters, but also bring in the enviromentalists and humanitarians who are alienated by the current administration...
Our problem is that our hands are pretty much tied as long as our leaders want to remain in the Republican Party...
I Agree Wild-Blue
The opposition is gearing up... I hope it is not opposition, but I worry:

Political reasons in troop delay by Obama to help elections?
Hatch: 'I hope' Obama not delaying troop decision to help Corzine and Deeds
By EAMON JAVERS | 10/25/09 11:01 AM EDT
Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch brought up a claim he said "some people" have made, that President Barack Obama is waiting until after this year's gubernatorial election in New Jersey and Virginia before making a decision on sending more troops to Afghanistan.
“Some people have even been, I think, hyper-critical in suggesting that he’s waiting until after the election because they have some tough governorships up for election” Hatch said In an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union with John King, “I hope that’s not the case.”
Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown said he knows Hatch didn’t say he believes that, but called it "outrageous … that partisans in this country would say that the President of the United States" is delaying the decision on troops for political reasons.
On ABC's "This Week" Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell tried to frame the Virginia governor's race - where polls show Republican Bob McDonnell firmly in the lead - as a referendum on the Democratic majority in Congress.

The Port Authority
The reason for this is the Port Authority controls NY/NJ and now that both major parties have succeeded in disenfranchizing voters to the point of 40%, the Duopoly plan, is to fom a NEO Indy Party.
MY concern, is that because we have so many Republicans, whose conservative tenacity is to "rebuild the GOP, which is broke, gutted, corrupt.. we as a Mises rEVOLution, will miss the opportunity to take advantage of the 40% Indy registration and WIN for FREEDOM.
I'll bet you, the Republicans here, who play hard ball to keep this rEVOLution in the GOP, are going to kill every chance we have and them whine and cry and blame everyone but themselves, as usual.

not this one Granger
I'm not falling for that crap. I've looked into Hoffman (NY23), he stands by the GOP's top core value, he's a warmonger. I'm done with that crap!
I'm a Ron Paul Republican period. The first hurdle any candidate must pass, Republican or Democrat is the foreign policy hurdle. After that I will investigate further.

Hoffman isn't running to win... this is more about building a new machine
The Neocons and Neoliberals are now going to unite under a "neo party" established under the Indy lable and we will have one party, like the communist party in the peoples republic of communist china.
Your post made me think what our different top issues are. Mine is cannabis decriminalization/legalization. You're is foreign policy. Be interesting if DP had committees ... well, it's an unfinished thought.

I think
you're correct Granger.
I've changed my philosophy from party affiliation to issue affiliation.
I'm a republican only so far as the rhetoric enables it. That means I'm for limited government. Ending welfare/warfare state will only be accomplished by dismantling the party system that pits one against the other.
As for cannabis, regulating the use of a plant that grows naturally, is not a function of government as far as I can tell.

I like issues voters best personally, trapfive
I tried hard to get Obama voters to give me issues why they support Obama.. The closest I came was, He's black/mixed race; which I find racist.
Problem with cannabis, the government is in it as a farce called marijuana, and both parties running things, like it the way it is, a pre-emptive police state, one family at a time. A silent killer of individuals and families worse than the herb. It needs to be free traded, not a war on poor and sick people who self medicate or want to self sustain with it as a hemp crop for feed and fiber, fuel and food, independent of government run Ag and processed food corporations.
I think cannabis is the key to freedom now, just as it was for the Framers of the US Constitution, which was penned on hemp parchement, and the first flag.. hemp cloth.. their uniforms.. hemp and their food.. Gruel was a hemp mush.. allot of protein and highly nutritious.
Look at www.hemptraders.com selection of hemp fabrics brought to us with technology of today. It's rEVOLutionary!

abortion rights and gay marriage
wow, the conservative party knows what's been really bugging voters, don't they? wonder if they'll address anything the government actually has authority to do?
"The two weakest arguments for any issue on the House floor are moral and constitutional"

rocket: These people seem to be trolling for voters.
You're right about that. A true third party is out there somewhere, but where?
One has to be awake to be a Constitutionalist, so we are back to waking up the masses before we can expect to form a formidable third party option.
The party system itself is corrupt, so even if there was another party, how long before it would also become corrupt?
i can't stand
entering any kind of discussion with people on the left because i must spend so much time differentiating myself from all the fake segments of the war party. whatever my opinions are regarding abortion or gay marriage, do not matter. i will not sacrifice one bit of my liberty to tell someone else what they should do. perhaps sound money and constitutional government would encourage a different view of raising a family, it certainly should make it more economically feasible.

May it be so. In Liberty for our Constitutional Republic.
