Second World War blunder that doomed 50,000 British PoWs

Whomever participated in this treason, if still alive, should be drug out in the street and hung till they are dead. They are not worth a bullet. This is beyond despicable.
The same goes for any similar action by American forces, in that war, or any other.
Short of that, they should be locked in a room with a group of veterans to be dealt with as desired. I can't think of any action more repugnant than forcing your fellow countrymen to remain a prisoner of war once you have defeated the enemy nation. There is zero excuse for this. Zero.

Well, it is likely that those 50,000 would have died fighting the Germans had they left the camps. However, at least they would have gone down fighting!
