Ohio Boy Given H1N1 Vaccine Against Mom's Wishes

Friday, October 30, 2009

OREGON, Ohio — A furious Ohio mother says her 7-year-old son, who has had problems with medications, was vaccinated for swine flu at school against her wishes.

Kim Lutheran works as a nurse and says her son, Matthew, has had bad reactions to medicine. So, she says she signed for "no consent" on a vaccination form and then circled her intentions with a black marker to make things clear to the boy's public school in the Toledo suburb of Oregon.

Lutheran says she learned Matthew still received a shot on Monday. She says the local health department must be held accountable.

Deputy Health Commissioner Larry Vasko says his agency has responded by changing the consent forms, telling parents not to sign or return them if they do not want their children vaccinated.

Lutheran told the Toledo Blade that her son was sent back to his classroom after handing in his no consent form, only to sent back to the nurse's office a short time later where he was given the H1N1 Vaccine.

"He got sent back again by himself into strange room with these strange people," she told the newspaper. "Supposedly three people looked at this piece of paper before he went to the R.N. who gave him the immunization. ... He's 7. He didn't know."

Another NYC student gets flu vaccine by mistake: Dept. of Ed. officials

Officials admitted on Friday that a third student was mistakenly given the swine flu vaccine - an error the school nurses union blamed on the city.

Three children have received the H1N1 vaccine without parental permission - including a kid at Public School 8 on Staten Island - since the in-school program began.

Public school nurses give swine flu vaccine to kids without parents' OK, sends child to hospital

School nurses mistakenly gave the swine flu vaccine to two students who didn't sign up for it - including a Brooklyn girl with epilepsy who wound up in the hospital.

"I was outraged," Naomi Troy, 26, told the Daily News after her 6-year-old daughter, Nikiyah Torres-Pierre, had a possible allergic reaction to the shot.

Officials at Public School 335 in Crown Heights called an ambulance to take Nikiyah to SUNY Downstate Medical Center when she fell ill following the arm jab.

"My stomach was hurting, and I was itching," Nikiyah said after she was released from the hospital.

When the nurse called for a student Thursday morning, Nikiyah's teacher misunderstood and sent the wrong student, Troy said.

The error was compounded when the nurse didn't check Nikiyah's name before sticking her in the shoulder, the mother said.

"The school made a horrible mistake," she added. "They never asked for her name. They have no paperwork....How do you make a mistake like this?"

After the mistake was discovered, officials summoned Troy to the school, she said.

Troy said the nurse - a Department of Health employee - tried to get her to sign a consent form, after the fact.

"I was insulted. I was really angry. 'You just incriminated yourself even more,'" Troy recalled thinking.

Kentucky Health workers give wrong child vaccine

Parents are upset and wonder how this could happen.

A Montgomery County father is upset, because his child was given the season flu vaccine by accident.

The flu mist vaccine was administered by workers from the Montgomery County Health Department. The health department takes care of day-to-day school health needs at Camargo Elementary School.

School officials say the health worker mistook seven-year-old Jacob Wages for another child with a similar name, and gave him the vaccine.

Wages' father Matthew Angel was he's upset, because he specifically denied permission for his son to receive the shot.

Montgomery County Health Department spokeswoman Pam Spradling says an investigation has been launched to see exactly how this sort of mix-up happened.

These people should teach their school districts a lesson.

They should learn admiralty law and put these school officials into a negative averment for attempted murder.

How long are we going to let people get away with these crimes?

How long are we going to keep this "free" education-indoctrination scam going?

When are we going to ACTUALLY build up our kids rather than destroy them at every turn?

Intranasal flu mist given to wrong child

Originally published December 17, 2009

A Lincoln Elementary School first-grader accidentally received an intranasal vaccination for swine flu that was meant for another child last week.
The child's mother, Felicia McLean, said her daughter, Amari Anderson, received a seasonal flu shot Dec. 5. When Amari went to school the next week, she instructed her daughter not to take the intranasal vaccine for H1N1 flu -- also known as swine flu -- at school when the doses would be administered.

But McLean's daughter did get the intranasal vaccine when vaccinations were given Dec. 8 because Amari's name was mixed up with another Amari, who is also in the first grade but not in the same class, school officials told McLean. The vaccination was meant for the other child, school officials told McLean.

The other child has a similar last name.

McLean said she warned her daughter not to get the vaccination.

"We had discussed it the night before," she said. "She doesn't know how it slipped through the cracks."

After Amari got the intranasal flu vaccination, she gave McLean a receipt that bears Amari's correct name.

Students getting the intranasal vaccine in all Frederick County schools must have signed permission slips from parents allowing them to get the vaccination.

Amari has many allergies, McLean said. She is not allergic to eggs -- an ingredient in some flu vaccinations -- but she has seasonal allergies and is allergic to nuts.

McLean was concerned that Amari needed more time between vaccinations. The Frederick County Health Department recommends intranasal H1N1 mist and seasonal flu vaccinations not be given at the same time. Different injectable flu vaccines can be given at the same time, although not in the same arm.

Lincoln Elementary Principal Ann Reeves referred all questions to the Frederick County Health Department. The health department was in charge of giving out the shots and making sure each child had the correct paperwork, she said.

McLean took her daughter to her family doctor after Amari's accidental vaccination,. The physician did not expect Amari would suffer any major problems from the two vaccinations.

Still, McLean was upset with what happened. She is not comfortable with the H1N1 vaccine.

"I'm just worried," she said. "I don't think it's really safe. It came out too fast."

McLean spoke to Dr. Barbara Brookmyer, Frederick County Health Officer, who apologized for the incident, but McLean wants more answers.

"This was unacceptable," McLean said.

The department's policy is not to discuss individual cases, Brookmyer said. The department has a policy for intranasal flu vaccinations in the schools, with three checks and balances to ensure all children have consent forms.

"Through our experiences with H1N1, we've had additional policies and procedures included," she said. Those will provide added safeguards at future school flu vaccination clinics.

The health department has provided 6,706 students with a dose of intranasal vaccine for H1N1 flu. A second vaccine has been provided for Rock Creek School students. Schools were chosen by lottery.

Another 796 elementary school students are scheduled to receive the vaccine this week. Oakdale Elementary School, Monocacy Valley Montessori and the Banner School students are scheduled for vaccinations today. Participating students at Myersville , New Midway and Sabillasville elementary schools will be vaccinated Friday. Those are the last schools getting the first dose of the intranasal vaccine.

Child Given H1N1 Vaccine By Mistake

Mother Revoked Consent

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Last month, the Rock Hill School District started an effort to offer the H1N1 vaccine to all 8,000 elementary school students in the district.

Natasha Jones told her child’s school nurse in person that she did not want her daughter to have the shot, and was upset Tuesday when she found out the girl had been vaccinated anyway.

Jones’ 6-year-old daughter, Korrin, was given a swine flu shot at Belleview Elementary School in Rock Hill. Korrin has asthma, and her doctor advised Jones against the vaccine.

Eyewitness News reporter Greg Suskin asked Bellview Principal John Kirell how the incident could have occurred.

He said Jones signed a consent form authorizing both of her children to get the vaccine. Later, she changed her mind and, during a meeting at the school, told the nurse in person to remove the forms and not give them the shot.

“It was a clerical error, there was no intent involved,” Kirell said. “What happened was, only one form was pulled out and the other was not.”

Kirell said the school deeply regrets the mistake.

“We’ve apologized, our school nurse has apologized. I’ve called again today to find out how the child was feeling and make sure everything was alright and apologized again,” he said.

Jones said her daughter did stay home from school Wednesday not feeling well. She wasn’t sure if that was connected to the vaccination.

Tyndall officials looking into vaccine mix-up

DANIEL CARSON / News Herald Writer

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE — A mix-up during a Nov. 20 mass immunization at Tyndall Air Force Base’s Child Development Center resulted in 10 children receiving the wrong H1N1 vaccine, an official with the base’s 325th Medical Group said Thursday.

Chief of Medical Staff Phillip Cover said that of the 10 affected children, all 3-year-olds, two developed mild short-term fevers that lasted less than 24 hours.

On Nov. 20, the medical group administered H1N1 vaccinations to 225 people at Tyndall’s CDC, including children, parents and staff, Cover said. The medical group had two H1N1 vaccines on hand that day, with one made by Novartis and the other manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur.

The Sanofi Pasteur vaccine was supposed to be administered to children ages 3 and up, with the Novartis vaccine intended for children ages 4 and up, Cover said. However, the 10 3-year olds at the CDC were given the Novartis vaccine by mistake, according to Cover.

New York Medical Malpractice Lawyer Warns School Nurses to Beware of Legal Consequences for Vaccinating Students Without Parental Consent

Fayette County, GA Mom: Son Given Wrong Flu Vaccine

Published : Monday, 23 Nov 2009, 7:05 PM EST

Reported By: Beth Galvin

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - A Fayette County mother said Monday that her 5-year-old was put at risk when he was given a flu vaccination he wasn't supposed to have.

Abby McFarlin says her son was pulled out of class Thursday, and mistakenly given the FluMist vaccine meant for another child.

"I was scared. Thinking, 'Please let him be mistaken. Please let him be confused,'" said McFarlin.

McFarlin said when her son came home from Fayette County's Spring Hill Elementary School, telling her he was given a flu medicine up his nose, she thought she'd heard him wrong.

"He showed me what they did. I said, 'Was it the school nurse that came and got you?' and he said, 'No. It was somebody else. I didn't know her," said McFarlin.

McFarlin's son was one of 878 students and staffers in the Fayette County schools who were given seasonal FluMist vaccine as part of the county flu prevention program.

McFarlin said her son wasn't supposed to get the vaccine.

"He is asthmatic and the FluMist is not to be given to any child that has asthma, confirmed asthma, or confirmed wheezing issues. And from what I've been told, it's actually a live flu virus that is injected into their nose," said McFarlin

McFarlin and the boy's father both said they never signed a consent form for him to receive a vaccination.

A nurse coordinator with the county health department told McFarlin they actually went to the boy's classroom to pick up another child, a little girl, with a similar sounding name. When they called the girl's name, McFarlin's son responded. Health department officials said that before they gave McFarlin's son the vaccination, they checked again, and again, he responded to the incorrect name.

"Putting the responsibility on a 5-year old [is] beyond absurd, to me. Adults are the ones who are responsible and should be held accountable for this," said McFarlin.

A spokesperson for the public health district said the incident will be investigated but there was no comment on the matter yet.

Calls to the Fayette County school spokeswoman were not immediately returned Monday.

"He's 5-years-old. Kids make mistakes, he might have gotten confused, but none of the responsibility should have been on him. He's 5," said McFarlin.

Stillwater Children Given Wrong Dose of H1N1 Vaccine

A Stillwater Clinic says a hundred children were given the wrong dosage of the H1N1 vaccine.

One mother who lined up at Stillwater Medical Group last Monday told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS she had always been a little skeptical of vacccines. She says now her trust level is even lower after her 17 month-old daughter got double the recommended dosage.

Children 6 months to three years-old should get .25 milliliters, but nearly 100 childern got .5 mililiters at the clinic Monday. The clinic's medical director said it was an oversight.

The clinic is in the process of calling parents. So far no one has reported any side effects which could include a fever.

The Department of Health said the increased dosage is still not enough to cause a safety concern.

Some Saskatchewan students have to be re-vaccinated

H1N1 vaccine wasn't mixed properly

Excerpts:

REGINA — Five students in a Saskatchewan school who got their H1N1 shots earlier this month will have to be re-immunized because the vaccine wasn't mixed properly.

Ila Fehr's eight-year-old son Nathan got his H1N1 shot on Nov. 12. Several days after Nathan was immunized, a public health nurse with the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region called Ila to say Nathan had to be re-immunized. Four other students at Schell School in Holdfast, Sask., must also be re-vaccinated.

Despite the phone call, Ila was confused about why Nathan requires the shot in the arm again.

"I wish I would have asked a few more questions," the mother said. "I'm impressed that they went back and found their mistake and they told us — they're not letting it go, but I'm not impressed that Nathan has to get another shot — and neither is Nathan."

It's a case of better safe than sorry, said Dr. Tania Diener, the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region's medical health officer.

She explained that a public health nurses prepares 10 doses of the H1N1 vaccine by mixing 2.5 ml of antigen from a vial with 2.5 ml from a vial of adjuvant — which acts as a booster.

"Unfortunately, after they started immunizing, they realized that they left a very small amount of the adjuvant behind in the vial. . . . We were unclear whether this would have any effect on the immune response the person would build up. In a case where you're not sure, it's better to re-immunize," Diener said.

Prior to contacting the families, health officials checked with the drug manufacturer and were given the go-ahead to re-immunize.

"I think that it's important that as soon as we realize that there's anything wrong that we correct the situation," she said.

Flu clinics scrutinized

Excerpts:

BRATTLEBORO -- Principals in Windham Schools are paying close attention to how the swine flu clinics in their buildings are run, as the Vermont Health Department reported this week that three children in the state received swine flu vaccinations at school based clinics without their parent’s consent.

Health Commissioner Dr. Wendy Davis said the errors happened at three different schools and state health officials have been talking with parents about the safety of the H1N1 flu vaccine.

The health department is not releasing the names of the schools where the errors took place.

"We have taken immediate steps to make sure consent forms are checked and double checked, including immediately before vaccine is administered, to make sure this doesn’t happen again," Davis said at a press conference Wednesday. "I would never take any error lightly. It’s a major issue in health care and I take it very seriously."

Deb Wilcox, chief of public nursing at the Health Department, said it is not exactly clear what happened at the three schools.

Children are given two forms, one that authorizes the vaccination and one that rejects it, and she said the three children were placed in the vaccination group even though their parents did not want them to receive it.

"We did not vaccinate any child who did not want it," Paciulli said. "We erred on the side of caution."

WTF !!!!

"We did not vaccinate any child who didn't want it"

So does that mean they asked the little kids instead of going by a parent's consent form?

What in the HELL does that statement even mean?

Local 4 also contacted the Michigan Department of Community Health to alert them to the situation. Spokesperson James McCurtis said their experts are recommending that the children who received the half dose of nasal vaccine be re-vaccinated with a full dose of injectable vaccine, followed by a second dose of injectable vaccine four weeks later.

Parents outraged, but expert says don't worry about H1N1 double doses for kids

Excerpts:

TORONTO — Families in several provinces were expressing outrage and concern Tuesday after they said their children got double the recommended dose of the H1N1 vaccine, but at least one medical expert said there's little need for concern.

Parents in Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia have reported that their children received the amount in the adult dose instead of the pediatric dose of the swine flu shot.

The Public Health Agency of Canada has received reports of the wrong dose being given out to children but cannot provide exact figures, said spokeswoman Nadia Mostafa, who referred the question to provincial health ministries.

The agency's guidelines call for adults to receive 0.5 ml in a single shot of the adjuvanted vaccine. The recommendation for children between six months of age to nine years is two half doses at least three weeks apart.

A stressed-out father in Delta, B.C., urged parents to check the dose themselves before their children get the shot. Jeevan Tauro said his three-year-old daughter and 17-month-old son were given the 0.5 ml dose at a Burnaby walk-in clinic Nov. 3.

In a telephone interview from his home Tuesday, Tauro said he asked the doctor if they should return to the clinic three weeks later to get the second half of the flu shot, but the doctor told him not to.

The doctor said there was only one shot and no subsequent vaccination, "so that raised my doubts (as to) what he had actually done," said Tauro.

The receptionist told him his children had received the full adult dose, he said.

Tauro said his son Ruhin developed a fever the next day, and suffered a seizure four days later and was rushed to hospital. He said a pediatrician told him two days later that Ruhin's high fever was related to the flu shot and that the fever had caused the seizure.

He was told to give his son Tylenol and the boy is doing better now, he said.

The Public Health Agency of Canada says on its website that reactions to the vaccine were higher in clinical trials for children who received a full dose as compared to those who received two half-doses.

The agency says the majority of adverse events are minor reactions, such as soreness at the injection site or a slight fever. However, it does state that sometimes more serious events are reported - including seizures in rare cases.

Dr. David Scheifele, director of the UBC Vaccine Evaluation Centre at B.C.'s Children's Hospital, said dosing errors happen all the time with seasonal flu vaccine and parents shouldn't worry.

"Giving a young kid the adult dose may increase the mild side-effect rate slightly. The leg will be a bit sorer, the kid a little crankier. And maybe the risk for fever is increased," he said.

"But the rate of high fever sufficient to trigger febrile convulsions has been extremely low with this vaccine."

The media is so predictable, always letting the doctors who minimize the damage take all the limelight. If there is nothing to worry about, why concern ourselves with dosages at all? Why not routinely give children double doses...think of how much $$$$ the vaccine makers could charge for that! This was probably deliberately done as an experiment.

Good point, pseudonym.

"If there is nothing to worry about, why concern ourselves with dosages at all?"

Nothing wrong with a little seizure now and again, eh?

"Dr. David Scheifele...said dosing errors happen all the time with seasonal flu vaccine and parents shouldn't worry."

Good grief. It's crazy how people, especially doctors, poo-poo things like this.

77 students given incorrect flu shot

Posted: Nov 10, 2009 12:29 PM EST

NAPLES: Seventy-seven students at The Community School of Naples were mistakenly given the seasonal flu vaccine on Monday when parents had signed consent forms for their children to receive the H1N1 vaccine, the Collier County Health Department confirmed Tuesday.

The error was discovered when staff members at the health department were inputting data into computers and the computers would not accept the lot numbers as correct for H1N1 vaccine, said Dr. Joan Colfer, executive director of the health department.

The vaccine clinic was halted and an additional supervisor was sent to the school to oversee the continuation of the H1N1 clinic for the rest of the school, she said.

Yet another mistake - this time in San Diego

.

Flu spray mix-up occurs at clinic

Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at midnight

As many as 18 people who sought swine flu vaccination from a county-run clinic on Oct. 15 were mistakenly immunized for common seasonal influenza, public health officials said yesterday.

The error occurred when a nurse thought two boxes of nasal spray vaccine for the regular flu were doses for H1N1 influenza, said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county’s public health officer. Labeling for the two types of vaccine is very similar, she said.

County health officials now mark boxes of swine flu vaccine with a large red “X” to distinguish them from other packages, Wooten said.

They narrowed the possibly affected patients to 47 children and adults who received nasal spray vaccine on Oct. 15 from the nurse at 5202 University Ave. in San Diego’s City Heights neighborhood. The county couldn’t determine exactly which people got the wrong inoculations, so the entire group was offered the chance to receive a new swine flu vaccination.

“This was an isolated incident limited to one nurse and one clinic, and we have taken action” to prevent the same mistake from happening again, Wooten said.

The mix-up means that some individuals might have received two H1N1 vaccine doses while others might have gotten a second dose for seasonal flu — if they were previously inoculated for common influenza.

Getting vaccinated twice for any type of flu generally doesn’t pose a health risk, Wooten said.

11 children in Brampton get double dose of H1N1 flu shot by mistake

BRAMPTON - A Brampton father is upset to learn his daughter is among almost a dozen children in Brampton who received double the recommended dose of the H1N1 flu vaccine.

Ted Hedrich says his three-year-old daughter, Selena, was one of 11 children who were mistakenly given the higher dose by a nurse working at the Indell Lane clinic on Monday afternoon.

Hedrich told Toronto television station CITY TV that his daughter is at high risk for the swine flu, so he and his wife decided she should be vaccinated, but now they're torn about whether it was the right decision.

Within an hour, someone caught the nurse's error, but Hedrich says he wasn't notified until three days later and adds his daughter woke up sick with flu-like symptoms the day after getting the vaccine.

Health officials have instructed their staff to give children half the adult dose of 0.5 ml initially and the other half several weeks later.

Peel Region's associate medical officer of health, Dr. Kathleen Dooling, says there are no significant ill effects found for children at this dosage level and Peel Region is investigating how the error occurred and taking steps to ensure it is not repeated.

.

Parents: Send this note to your school principal to protect your child from swine flu vaccinations

(NaturalNews) After reading about the forced vaccination of a Brooklyn schoolgirl who ended up in the hospital, many parents are concerned about how they might protect their own children from school-based vaccination schemes.

To help parents protect their children, I've written a letter that you may copy, modify and use as a warning to the principal of the school(s) where your own children are students. This letter will serve as a warning to the school principal that if your child is vaccinated without your permission, you will unleash a hellstorm of legal action and media attention that every school principal desperately wishes to avoid. (Feel free to modify this letter to tone down the language a bit if you already have a friendly relationship with your local school principal.)

Once you're satisfied with the language, print and sign this letter, then have it notarized so the signing date can be proven in court. When that's complete, mail a copy to your school using registered mail (so you have proof it was delivered), then print off another copy for your child to carry with them at all times.

Instruct your child that if they are called to the nurse's office to be injected with the vaccine, they should produce this note and show it to the nurse. You may also instruct your child to protect themselves by running from the nurse's office and calling you at home or work (print your phone number on the back of the note).

Role-play this scenario to make sure your child understands exactly what you're asking them to do. Otherwise, they will usually just do what they're told at school, especially if they are threatened with getting into trouble by school teachers or nurses.

This letter hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer. If you want a stronger legal angle for your letter, take this to your lawyer and ask them to beef it up with more "lawyer language."

This letter, by the way, is offered as-is, with no guarantees. It's simply being published here on NaturalNews as a public service to give concerned parents something they can use to help protect the health of their children from overzealous vaccination schemes.

(Note: You may need to alter the gender references in the letter below if your child is a girl. The note is written using "he.")

A letter for your school principal (and nursing staff)

From: (Your name here)
Date: (Insert date here)
RE: Request for NON-vaccination of my child (insert child's name here)

Dear Principal Johnson (and the nursing staff),

This letter is to inform you that as a parent of a child in your school, I do not consent to any H1N1 (Swine Flu) vaccination of my child, (insert child's name here), and that if my child is subjected to such a vaccine without my permission, I will consider that a gross violation of not only my parental rights, but the civil rights of my child.

The H1N1 swine flu vaccines currently being given to schoolchildren in America were approved by the FDA using an unlawful waiver that allowed the vaccines to be approved with absolutely no credible scientific testing. No adequate safety or efficacy testing has been conducted on any of the swine flu vaccines, and those children who are being injected with the vaccines are being treated as human guinea pigs.

H1N1 swine flu has also turned out to be so mild that it can be easily overcome with a healthy immune system aided by healthy levels of circulating vitamin D. My child takes vitamin D supplementation and therefore has an extremely healthy, active immune system that can easily mount its own antibody response against swine flu or other forms of influenza. Because of his immune system health and nutritional regimen, my child poses no health threat as a "carrier" of the swine flu, even without being vaccinated.

As a parent, part of my responsibility to my child is to protect them from potentially dangerous chemicals or unproven medications that may cause neurological side effects. A previous batch of swine flu vaccines in 1976 are now known to have caused Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), a serious neurological disorder that can cause paralysis or death. The risk of such side effects may be small, but they are permanent and not worth the claimed protection against a disease that, according to CDC statistics, is many times less virulent than regular seasonal flu.

Please make note that my child is not to receive any vaccinations without my prior written consent, and that if my child is subjected to vaccines of any kind without such permission, I will immediately seek legal counsel in an attempt to hold your school responsible for all long-term medical costs potentially associated with the vaccine side effects. I will also sue for violation of my child's civil rights.

Should such a scenario unfold, I also plan to go public with this story at both the local and national levels in order to bring increased awareness to this gross violation of parental rights. A copy of this signed and dated letter will be made available to the press to prove that I clearly and specifically requested my child NOT be vaccinated. I will also be happy to provide this documentation to whatever state regulators or law enforcement investigators may become involved at that point.

You may avoid all of this by honoring my request to safeguard my child from any and all H1N1 (Swine Flu) vaccines being given at your school.

Regards,

Final Note: If your child is violated with a vaccine without your permission, please contact NaturalNews so that we may bring awareness to your story (if you wish). Your credibility will be greatly improved if you have a signed, notarized and dated letter (along with proof of mail delivery) stating your desire to avoid having your child vaccinated.

If they'd all sue the pants off

of these school districts, I'm sure the loss of money would motivate them from even CONSIDERING doing a mass vaccination like this again. I'd give up all my extras just to get a good lawyer to sue them for assault...and Win!
