Austin, TX, April 06, 2009 -- Fans of the the famous book "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand now have something to look forward to. They also have something to wear. If you have not recently seen anyone wearing a shirt that says "Who is John Galt?", that may quickly change.
With the impending release of the movie based on the book "Atlas Shrugged" due out in 2011 people everywhere are speculating that the movie could start a revolution in this country. Amid the backdrop of the global financial crisis people all over the US have been threatening to "Go Galt." To potentially help with this process are some stores on the web selling clothing with famous quotes from the book as well as bumper stickers and other merchandise so they can wear their "passion" for individualism and the ideas within the book.
JohnGaltGear.com, a web store
solely specializing in t-shirts and clothing for Aynd Rand fans and Objectivists, is dedicated to helping people "Go Galt". The store has a new shirt with the phrase "Gone Galt. Since 1957". The store's most popular product is a shirt with the quote "Who is John Galt?". Other popular sellers are differently themed John Galt shirts and John Galt bumper stickers with the famous quote from the book. The site even has some less common gifts for fans of Atlas Shrugged like store branded usb thumb drives, door mats, and mugs that say "Who is John Galt?".

After decades of false starts
Atlas, the Movie, may actually get made. One of the reasons is that the people who have the option to make the movie have to start shooting in 2010 or the option expires.
I just hope they don't butcher it.
Been there. Done that.
I dutifully did my two years as an Objectivist, over 40 years ago, when the Objectivist was still in print, and the Rand/Brandon affair had yet to go public. I managed to slog through Atlas Shrugged once. I think.
Lew Rockwell currently is showing a reprint of a piece that Murray Rothbard did about Rand and the Senior Collective.
There is a huge problem with the Keepers of the Objectivist Torch. I visited one Objectivist website. They were all about war. Pure, preemptive, aggressive war. I do not know if they are all like that.
The truth will be twisted, wait and see
I was listening to some mindless bitch on NPR last night drone on about how Ayn Rand's and her followers were a cult. This went on for several minutes after about 1 minute of the same mindless bitch setting up Rand as a libertarian hero.
The mass media will make a joke of the message, just you wait and see.
But that is the very tension that is needed in this struggle.
These ideas were never popular because personal responsibility means you have to be 'conscious' and think for yourself, especially when so many have been addicted to giving up these most precious powers of all.
I think its going to tip the scale towards philosophic revolution!
I know what you mean about NPR though. They are repulsive and don't allow any substantive dissenting views ever.
I wouldn't be surprised; however, it is an opportunity
to get people to read it.
It usually blows people's mind. The movie *will* get people to read it.
Even if Jolie plays Dagny, it is an opportunity for us
Even if Jolie and the AS movie makers make a mockery of AS, this is still an opportunity. The superstars will drag people to the movies...some will go to the book.
We have to push as many to the actual book as possible.
Heck, the superstars will likely draw lots of well-intentioned Dem voters...which is a market we haven't penetrated much.
The opponents to Ayn Rand generally come from the left saying that Ayn Rand's solution (leave the existing community and start a small pure one) is not practical...and frankly, if you want to stick around and 'fix' the USA, they have a point.
However, the origin of the USA parallels AS in that a small pure community (the 13 colonies) was created. The US, for a hot second, was Galt's Gulch. We have to really be ready with knowledge to teach people about how external forces infiltrated several major components of our country (religion, corporations, government), weakened them, and turned our country over to the Judeo/Christian world order.
We must be ready to explain how most of the founding members struggled with:
-struggled with religious organizations to assure they weren't too influential
-warned us about corporations becoming too big...especially the banking. This leads into the multi-generational fight to keep our economy, Andrew Jackson's victory over the Bank, the Bank's victory leading to the Federal Reserve, the gold standard, up to now.
-split government up into levels as a safeguard to prevent one federal government (the real reason for the war between the states)
great book
I have been waiting for this to happen for so long now. It would be a real eye opener for the public and those in government that don't fully realize there impact on society. Although it is mostly common sense and rational thinking. This would however, seem radical thinking in a backwards brainwashed society as ours. I've even had a friend tell me my way is to radical. Ummm... well no not really. Besides the shirts and bumper stickers there are ACCS approved silver John Galt coins from librecoins.com.
they have been talking about this for
DECADES. do a search...you'll see who the potential Dagny's have been.
If Angelina Jolie, UN peace emissary or whatever she now George Clunny are, ends up playing Dagny rest assured that it will not be a movie to help the cause...sorta like Glenn Beck...sorta but not quite there.
I don't know how they could translate that book into a feature length movie. Maybe an HBO series would be better.
I would like to see someone like Kate Blanchette (sp?) play Dagny. Jolie is (dare I say it) too sexy as a Dagny and not nearly as believable or deep an actress as Blanchette.
Nice marketing getting people to the gear site though.
I
Cate Blanchett. YES! She would be perfect as Dagny.
There are very few male actors who are not full of themselves to play Galt. The old timers were awesome like, Sean Connery. Maybe Timothy Dalton or Pierce Brosnan? I know I'm biased towards James Bond but these guys can pull off being 'moral'. The others are too debauched. ha ha
