New TV show V aims at Obamamania...
This is an interesting article on the show and the lead alien chick Anna being like Obama. Anyone watch this show? I never saw the original, but I thought it was entertaining. It seemed like there were some not so subtle messages throughout the show. Any thoughts? Here's the article.

Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care.
The news media swoons in admiration -- one simpering anchorman even shouts at a reporter who asks a tough question: "Why don't you show some respect?!" The public is likewise smitten, except for a few nut cases who circulate batty rumors on the Internet about the leader's origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: "Embracing change is never easy."
So, does that sound like anyone you know? Oh, wait -- did I mention the leader is secretly a totalitarian space lizard who's come here to eat us?
Welcome to ABC's "V," the most fascinating and bound to be the most controversial new show of the fall television season. Nominally a rousing sci-fi space opera about alien invaders bent on the conquest (and digestion) of all humanity, it's also a barbed commentary on Obamamania that will infuriate the president's supporters and delight his detractors.
"We're all so quick to jump on the bandwagon," observes one character. "A ride on the bandwagon, it sounds like fun. But before we get on, let us at least make sure it is sturdy."
The bandwagon in this case is conspicuously saucer-shaped. "V" starts with the arrival of a couple of dozen ships from outer space, piloted by creatures who look like humans except a lot prettier. "Don't be frightened," says their luminously beautiful leader Anna (Morena Baccarin, "Serenity"). "We mean no harm."

Thanks for the link, I'm shocked ABC would
even put it on the air. Maybe there is hope for capitalism yet :)

Unlikely to "go viral" I would think.
The clips do not have the culty-Prisonerish look. Standard wooden TV acting and no subtlety at all. "You're talking about universal healthcare." "The V's - They call it 'spreading hope.'"
For something like that to work, the viewers need to believe they are among a minority that "gets it."

A comment under the article reminded me....
It has literally been a couple decades, but someone mentioned "It Can't Happen Here" by Sinclair Lewis. It is about a fascist takeover of America (most of it has already happened) Just like Atlas Shrugged, it would be interesting to see a new fervor to buy the book from Amazon.

Here’s a good song for this thread:
Planet X by hed p.e.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hTbD6QmfHc
MAN:
Honey, I'm home!
Would you come here and look at this?
There's something funny up in the sky!
Is it a bird? Is it a plane?
Honey, look it's your doom!
The Sky is falling.
Here comes Planet X!
The Mayan and the Hopi
Foretold it would come
Nazi ships revealing
The Second Sun
It's time to face yourself
And all that you've done
And I've done
Nibiru's on its way
There's nowhere to run
The Sky is falling.
Flyby, shift,
I know that many were lost
The powers of the ***
Would just ***
Goodbye
The Family did survive
And took its first breath
Building our new world
We start once again
The Sky is falling.
WOMAN:
Planet X is the force, needed to finally break the absolute control, that this hidden, reptillian race, has had over Earth since they won a battle in space, thousands of years ago.
Gaia was dying
But now she can
show us her face
Darkness has left
Information
Will reign in its place
The Gods sit and laugh
At the children that play on the beach
Five thousand, one hundred
Twenty five more years
To teach, and learn
MAN:
Honey, I'm home!
Come out here and take a look at this thing.
There’s something funny up in the sky.
The Sky is falling.
WOMAN:
Planet X is incoming, and we're gonna have a global panic, but I and, others who have been understanding what I've been learning, are gonna jump for joy. I am going to be so happy, to see that planet. Does that sound crazy?

Life imitating art or art imitading life?
If it's on the tell a vision, then there's a specific reason. Everything on the tube is selling the viewer something. What V is selling probably won't be known until the series evolves. But it won't surprise me if the series ends in utopia with aliens bestowed as hero's with vindication granted their loyal devotee's.
A few moments from the program
BEGIN SPOILERS
A kid wants to join an Ambassadors' Corps with eerily matching jackets and young, pretty faces and lectures his mom about "hope".
The aliens offer universal health care.
The alien woman will only deal with a reporter who promises to give her "more than fair" coverage. Despite the phrase "more than fair" having great subtext, she was quite explicit about the arrangement in other dialog. This was in the script before the Fox News Press Pool debacle so it just goes to show a generic admonition against totalitarian tactics is all too probable to be prophetic.
There is a strong current in this about how dangerous devotion is. The term is treated as more foreboding than if they were to worship the aliens. It is true that devotion is more universally marketable and too vague to fight openly. It's a good point.

Science Fiction is great in that you can play things out in an alternate setting that the folks aren't ready for yet.
Then, on the other hand, it goes right over the head of folks who aren't ready for it.
It's fun for a writer, though. I'm writing my own series of stories. I purposely chose a non-military setting.
Too much science fiction is in a military setting and it's becoming a cop-out for character motivation. My characters have to have real reasons for being where they are, which forces the setting to have realistic economic rules driving it.
I can't get too full of myself over it, though, since I know this isn't going to educate anyone who hasn't already chosen to be educated.
Defend Liberty!
This is just great
I hear that the mother ship is heavily-laden with bulletproof glass and adorned with a bumper sticker that says, ”Yes we can!” :-)
”Science Fiction is great in that you can play things out in an alternate setting that the folks aren't ready for yet.”
Yes, there is much truth in this and it is often practiced.
WHG: did I hear they want to eat us?
been saying that all along....

There is another way to interpret this fictional series.
I saw the premier last night because I suspected it was going to be relevant to today's political atmosphere.
I came away with the dread that anyone who mentions the global oligarchy sometimes called the NWO will be accused of believing that lizard people from another planet are controlling the Earth through social, political and monetary means as portrayed on the sci-fi series V.
This is the plot of the series that the Visitors sent an advance team decades ago to cause economic strife and unnecessary wars. So if you believe that somehow there is a group of people capable of controlling and manipulating economies and starting unnecessary wars you must be a nut who believes in science fiction.
Wow Black Ops! Well said...
My dad has always talked about TV shows being used as propaganda and I think you hit the nail on the head.

Did you see?
I believe it was an X-Files episode called "Lone Gunman". It played before 9-11 and was about a false-flag attack on the World Trade Center using commercial airline jets as a justification to go to war and take over Afghanistan. Erie - saw on U-Tube so I may not have the show correct.

It kind of sounds like a David Ickes conspiracy theory
I never heard of Ickes until about six months ago and all of his stuff, at least the reptilian alien thing seems quite far fetched. Was he the first to come up with this idea? He should get some type of consulting fee from the show.

It makes for interesting reading
I can't believe we're talking about reptilians on the DP, I hope we don't hurt the movement, lol.
"Rule by Secrecy" by Jim Marrs was the first book I read dealing with this subject.
http://www.amazon.com/Rule-Secrecy-Trilateral-Commission-Fre...
Marrs bases a lot of his work off of Zecharia Sitchin's work, who a lot of people have problems with and claim is cointel pro, or something.
"Sitchin attributes the creation of the ancient Sumerian culture to the "Anunnaki" (or "Nephilim"), a race of aliens from a planet he calls Nibiru, which he believes to be in an elongated, elliptical orbit in the Earth's own Solar System and asserts that Sumerian mythology reflects this view."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zecharia_Sitchin
Stitchin supposedly learned Sumerian and translated a lot of their clay tablets.
I'm not saying I believe any of this stuff, but it's fun to read.

I watched last night
It was ok, kindda creepy and in some ways predictable.
Prepare & Share the Message of Freedom through Positive-Peaceful-Activism.
They are rerunning the original series on the SyFy
Channel.
That was from 1983. Then it may have been aimed at Reagan, though I think it is a common story theme.
I missed the first show of this series ( there was a Royce Gracy retrospective on ) I will be interested to see what it is like.
That's it...
I knew I had seen a series about reptilian aliens called “V” long ago. The premise sounds much like what the poster describes - a bunch of aliens come to earth, disguised as regular people, pretending to be our friends, but with bad intentions toward us. The latter part does sound a lot like... well, I won't mention any names of current U.S. presidents.
