I was Elected to City Council!

I am 24 and ran a race against 9 others for 3 seats. I defeated 3 incumbents and was the top vote getter.
I am excited to help out my community (South East Michigan) during this time, as well as assist liberty minded candidates throughout the area with similar endeavors.
Thank you so much for the congratulations, I never expected this would make front page. My girlfriend even made sure to take a screenshot and save it. Thanks again, I am so proud to be part of this movement.

but I did get the highest vote percentage of any Libertarian in my state. The fight isn't over.

Thanks Ladalang, I was lucky enough to run in a non-partisan election and avoid the issue of "right/left" allegiances. Get involved in your cities boards and commissions as well as community service organizations. Networking and building a reputation is huge.

James, I am fortunate to have been raised in a politically active family and had a strong foundation and networks to work on. That was a huge advantage. The second was going door to door to every resident that has voted in a city election. I could not have won without that (Grassroots!).

It is not anything special and is light on major issues - it just gave voters a sense of who I am.
The best way to start is by getting on city boards and commissions and become active in local community service organizations - lions, jaycees, goodfellows, elks, masons, eagles, moose, knights of columbus etc.
When things settle slightly (summer vacation) i'll create a skeleton guideline to running a city election and share it.

For some reason, we're expected to know every law that exists in America & in our state so we don't break it. We're supposed to know this when we're 18. Take the time now to read your city charter, state constitution and US constitution if you haven't already done so. Your voice against unconstitutional corrupt actions(however well intended) will go a long way to helping out the people in your town.
Warn against Federal grants of all kinds as an intrusion into the soveriegnty of your local government.
Most importantly God bless you for your efforts.
