Pentagon Papers Leaker Ellsburg: No Victory Possible in Afghanistan. Obama Will Cave In to Military Anyway

Like Vietnam, Ellsberg said "no victory lies ahead [for the US] in Afghanistan" and President Barack Obama knows it.
Still, Ellsberg believes Obama will "go against his own instincts as to what's best for the country and do what's best for him and his administration and his party in the short run facing elections, which is to avoid a military revolt."
That means the president will likely authorize a sizable increase of US forces in the region, Ellsberg said, because Obama fears that top US military commanders will stage a revolt if he rejects their requests for additional soldiers.
Ellsberg predicted that Obama will cave in to Gen. Stanley McCrystal's request for as many as 40,000 US troops in order to, "prevent his military from making a political case to his public and to the Congress that he has been weak, unmanly, indecisive, and weak on terrorism, and has endangered American troops."

Who would have imagined that over 30 years after the Viet Nam fiasco ended, due in no small part to Daniel Ellsberg, we would be going through the same thing again, with some important differences. The people are not out in the streets yelling STOP IT. The TV news is not showing the mayhem and carnage.
Very interesting.... and very depressing....

They are preparing the Obamabots for the Presidents decision. By adding the statement about a military revolt he lays out the choice as send more troops or face anarchy. This is a false choice. Why would the military revolt?

I'd like to believe Ellsberg is correct
in thinking the Obama Administration is at least lukewarm to the war. But he's been a big promoter of expanded war in Afghanistan even before he was in office. He wasn't under the thumb of the military all that time.
I think Ellsberg is giving him a bit of a pass due to Ellsberg's fans not being willing to see O. as a perpetrator. Much happier to blame it only on the military and hard ball politics. What an indictment of our system, all those lives for crass political advantage and power.
Either way, the Administration and military brass should be discredited and fired, and in the best of all possible worlds, tried for treason.

I think (and hope) that Team Obama is laying the groundwork
for bringing U.S. Troops out of Afghanistan.
This is how I read the media stunt last week when Obama visited Dover Air Force Base to salute the fallen coming home in caskets.
Team Bush wouldn't even acknowledge the flights into Dover and put a media blackout into place. Obama's action formally repudiates the previous administration's stance.
I know I am reading into this media stunt but one can hope my reading is correct.

anything about Obama's "surprise" visit to Dover before reading your comment! I just googled it, and read a few articles. It was a middle-of-the-night excursion...

and just like
