Tim: No, Julia, and that is actually the key question for us up here. We just know the secret service is involved. There's several reports saying... uh... there was some kind of unspecified threat against the white house. That's the way it's being reported. No details on exactly what it is.


Julia: This is the Westwood federal building and I understand it's being evacuated after this pursuit apparently led to a suspect in custody and the secret service involved. Harris Faulkner is following this story with more on the evacuation efforts going on right now. Hi, Harris.


Harris: Hi there, Julia. I just got off the phone with the LAPD and what they're telling me is that there could be up to 1,000 people that they are now evacuating from the federal building. Also, there's an apartment building across the street from where this car chase came to an end. Uh, and in addition to that, about that unspecified threat against the white house, this, uh, driver was wanted on several warrants as well - one of them a misdemeanor, so, they already had their eye on him. They were chasing him, and then the secret service joined in on this 405 freeway chase on the west side of Los Angeles. This is in Westwood. Now, this also impacts the campus of UCLA because it is nearby, and UCLA campus police are also now involved in this, uh, keeping the periphery of this from bleeding onto their campus. You know, they've gotta keep their campus safe too, because it is right adjacent to this. So, evacuations above 1,000 people now, and they have moved that robot into that red vehicle. They fired some lasers into it to see if they can coax the one or two suspects, we're told that are in that car, out of it. So far, no luck. ... They sent in a bomb squad robot and they are working to get that suspect out.


Unnamed babbling reporter woman: There is a situation that we have been watching all, uh, morning, and now into the afternoon. Uh, these are aerial photos of Westwood right now, where a police standoff is going on.


Eric: It's happening in the parking lot of the federal building on Wilshire Blvd. Inside that red VW is a man who is wanted by the U.S. secret service for making unspecified threats against the white house. We have live team coverage now, beginning with KTLA's Wendy Burch on the scene in Westwood. Wendy?


Wendy: Well, Eric, we've been here for hours and and there has been very little [emphasis added] movement to speak of. Let me show you the scene. Basically, we are right on the east side of the federal building on veteran. Veteran is shut down right now. Take a look, first of all, at the robot right there. That is a very smart little robot used by LAPD. It can actually deliver things into the suspect. It also has some high-powered listening devices, so that robot has been utilized. Then you see the armored car right there. Gotta say, we've never seen that [emphasis added] armored car. Normally the one we see LAPD use is a black armored vehicle, but that vehicle moved into a new position - the position you see right now - just a few minutes ago. Basically, the car in question, the red Volkswagen, was faced with its front end towards the street. Of course the driver was still behind the wheel. We believe that that armored vehicle repositioned itself there so this suspect couldn't decide to, in fact, drive away and stat the high-speed pursuit all over again... and that is how all of this started, right around 10:00 this morning in the Westchester area. This suspect was spotted. Now, we know [emphasis added] that the suspect was wanted for two misdemeanor warrants. We're not sure what led to the high-speed chase. It simply could have been an officer identifying a vehicle plate number, or, perhaps, the driver could have made some sort of illegal lane change, or something as simple as that. But, nonetheless, the high-speed pursuit was on. Now, the high-speed pursuit went through the west side of Los Angeles. It was on the 405 for a time being... and then, as we understand, there was a second passenger in that red Volkswagen. That second passenger bailed out of the car, right there around Howard Hughes, uh... eh-eh... the Howard Hughes exit right there off of Sopolvida (sp?) and the 405 freeway. But then the high-speed pursuit continued, and that's where the suspect... or, here is where the suspect, rather, headed towards - the federal building [emphasis added] of all places. and, as we're back out here at the federal building, you've got to take a look at these officers. if we can be sure to pan over to the right, these officers with LAPD have had their weapons drawn for the better part of two hours. Focus in on that suspect. Now, from what we can gather, we have to admit that the information to us - information flow - has been, uh, to say it's limited is an overstatement. We really have had no information from officers here on the ground, in large part because there's not a command post set up. These officers are just busy right now, negotiating with that suspect, who is behind the wheel. As we mentioned earlier, this suspect - it has been confirmed by the secret service - has made known [emphasis added] threats to the white house. We have also heard that this suspect has made threats to the VA building, here in Los Angeles. We're working to confirm that, but that... those are the reports that are coming out right now. ... Chip: [Acknowledging that there is a command post and introducing LAPD Lieutenant Rooney]...


Lieutenant Rooney: Well, I don't have his name, to be honest with you, uhhhh... what I can tell you is he was the subject of an investigation, with several agencies involved, and uh... earlier today, uh, he was spotted in his vehicle and officers attempted to... stop the vehicle, using their red lights and siren, and he failed to stop. ...


Chip: What kind of threat do you think he poses at this point? Do you think there is anything? Has he given you any signal that he has something, any kind of weapon or any kind of bomb in the car?


Lieutenant Rooney: [Instead of saying no] I won't go into that, and I, quite frankly, if there was then I would go ahead and er on the side of prudent judgment. ...


Chip: ... We had heard something about a second person that may have run off from this car. Is that - is there any truth to that?


Lieutenant Rooney: No. I can... I can say that there was no second person involved in the vehicle.


Chip: Just this individual... and have you guys had any past dealings with this past individual?


Lieutenant Rooney: I believe that he has had contacts with law enforcement in the past, but I can't go into those.


Chip: ... As we get out of here, I wanna show you one more time the... where we're at right here, and tell you a little more of what we saw as this was all setting up just a little while ago. We did see what looked like a sniper from some kind of agency, running across here, getting into position, and we don't know where that person was going, but obviously, they're taking a lot of precautions here. As he [Lieutenant Rooney] said, the federal building over here is on lock-down. That changed just about 45 minutes ago. We were over there, walking around. They were allowing people to walk around, just on the outside. They were stopping them from going close to the scene, but as I was over there talking to some folks, they ordered everyone back into the building, put the building on lock down.



Okay, let's ingest all of that for a minute.


Regarding the warrants, which is it? "...several warrants as well - one of them a misdemeanor..." or "...we know [emphasis added] that the suspect was wanted for two misdemeanor warrants"?


Regarding the evacuation of thousands of people, why evacuate them and then order them back into the building?


Regarding the suspect(s) in the vehicle, was it "...the one or two suspects, we're told that are in that car..."? What about "second passenger bailed out of the car" which "apparently led to a suspect in custody"? Or was there "...no second person involved in the vehicle" - "Just this individual..."? Also, considering the multitude of cameras they apparently have covering that entire area, from the ground and from the air, and considering that this "...is a situation that we have been watching all, uh, morning, and now into the afternoon", how can they possibly not know whether there were one or two suspects in the vehicle? Also, they made several assertive, confident statements, despite that they "...have to admit that the information to us - information flow - has been, uh, to say it's limited is an overstatement. We really have have no information from officers here on the ground, in large part because there's not a command post set up." Or was there a command post set up? Which is it?


Regarding who the main suspect is, how can Lieutenant Barney Fife - I mean - Rooney possibly know that the suspect "...was the subject of an investigation, with several agencies involved..." and that "...he has had contacts with law enforcement in the past..." How can Rooney know that "...earlier today, uh, he [the suspect] was spotted in his vehicle and officers [Rooney's own officers] attempted to... stop the vehicle..."? How can Rooney know these things and state them right after just having said, "Well, I don't have his name, to be honest with you, uhhhh..."?


Regarding the massive spray of irritant gas, why would they spray that freaking much, when it obviously wasn't working, with the wind blowing as it was, with the federal building nearby, with UCLA "right adjacent to this" and with "...an apartment building across the street from where this car chase came to an end"? I'd sue the living daylights out of them for that if I lived anywhere near there.


Regarding the "threats to the white house," why would the secret service repeatedly cite them as "unspecified" when they were all too happy to proliferate and inundate us with so many details of threats of anthrax back in '01?


I don't know what this is, but I know what it isn't: anything close to the real story!

who knows what to believe about any kind of 'report'; the nun did seem believeable; her Spanish was excellent (well-educated, but then Spanish Spanish is the easiest for non-Spanish speakers to understand), but that doesn't necessarily mean anything--

Is this a coincidence? I don't think so. I think well intentioned healthcare workers started getting info about this earlier than we did and suspicions/concerns were arroused. Great job people. Now lets put the culprits in prison for a long time.

I do not know if I should cry or laugh my headoff when I see the LONG lines of people in a panic to recieve this TOXIC vaccine that may possibly KILL THEM.
