This from President Obama on the Individual Mandate and penaltiesSubmitted by mdknauss on Tue, 11/10/2009 - 14:50
“What I think is appropriate is that in the same way that everybody has to get auto insurance and if you don't, you're subject to some penalty, that in this situation, if you have the ability to buy insurance, it's affordable and you choose not to do so, forcing you and me and everybody else to subsidize you, you know, there's a thousand dollar hidden tax that families all across America are -- are burdened by because of the fact that people don't have health insurance, you know, there's nothing wrong with a penalty.” -POTUS Obama
Some take aways....
1) Comparing Health Insurance to Car Insurance is a good comparison; however, he failed to make the comparison when he is discussing a public option. If there is a public option for Health Care Insurance, there should be a public option for Auto Insurance too, just to keep it "fair"
2) "there's nothing wrong with a penalty" - Thank you Karl Marx
3) So if tax payers are paying numerous taxes right now to offset the lack of health care, does that mean that this tax will magically go away and American Families will get that tax cut???? Doubtfully.... more than likely it will just go to fund some other form of big government sprawl
4) To say that a penalty that infringes on one's liberty is just simply because it's economical is where dictatorships and empires get into trouble. Government should have never gotten into the business of subsidizing health care, and now that it is in the business, it has to find a way to make revenue though taxing the people and stealing their liberties.
