People are withholding support for the Dem and Rep parties

In a sign of deep discontent with the Washington political establishment, restive activists in both parties are taking out their frustrations on the Democratic and Republican campaign committees and hitting party leaders where it hurts — in the pocketbook.
Recognizing the key role campaign cash plays in lubricating the Beltway machine, conservative and liberal activists alike are organizing efforts to withhold cash from the party committees in the hopes of forcing top party leaders and members of Congress to pay heed to their demands.

This could be more counterproductive than helpful
The politicians will just bail themselves out with more milk from the government tit. So there will be even greater disconnect between the people and the political leeches. The idea of the government bigwigs "voluntarily" (from their perspective) suffering from a lack of funds is hard to believe to say the least. If they'll support an abomination like "cash for clunkers" they'll find a new way to line their campaign pockets.

Who normally give to the RNC who are instead giving their money to candidates instead....

And this is of great concern to the media
because billions of that campaign cash is spent on campaign advertising on all forms of media.
It's the "invisible payoff" made to the media for playing their part in the scam.
And it all looks "perfectly normal" because the money is being paid for the advertising, and who would ever question it?
